i've not heard much from the expected contingent point out
that, now that we've shut 1/3 of the global economy down,
smog is clearing out of the sky.

i do worry about someone taking some 12 monkeys inspiration
out of this, if only because it would never work: look at
the US, effectively saying "there are no more pollution
controls anymore, please pollute all you can to save the
economy." if you could nuke all the busy commerce, sure, the
earth would recover. but it won't just go quietly

also haven't heard much from the "kids are great, they will
change your life" crowd recently

and now our chef has gone off ill with it. if this thing is
infectious before it's symptomatic (is it? or just in cough
droplets?) we'll all have it. he's old and fat and wheezy as
it is. not good, not good at all

Will China profit from the Coronavirus? (*spoiler*, it already has)

wife believes they fabricated it as a weapon, but I'm still
holding out on that belief. IT does seem a little too
convenient and tbh it does annoy me that the rest of the
world is sitting in the dust of this thing while China is
gallivanting back to "normalcy"

Nobody made this, it’s been a long time coming.

Of course a totalitarian state can get back to normal more
quickly, their lockdown will have been far worse than the
ones in any democratic country. Also they’re probably
fudging their numbers to give the impression things are
better than they are so they can pounce in the global leader
shaped hole left by the US.

Those broad shoulders, that thick neck, the bossy tone with
that accent.

I want her to admonish me for not social distancing properly
while she grinds my pelvis to dust.

I tend to agree with you...she's being silly
imo.....definitely they are in a much better situation with
their gazzilion checkpoints and social control measures.
Can't go anywhere without showing some form of id. Also,
they've had a nice head start time wise to deal with it.
Fucking hoping the rest of the world can bounce back.

interesting. so were the researchers intentionally
splashed with bat blood and piss, to test transmissibility
maybe? or was it just shoddy practices at the lab? were the
lab's bats taken from the market, or independently
collected? was the market even involved?

yeah that id like to know, i assume they got lazy with
protocols. i guess handling bats is difficult, im not saying
this is 100% the origin of the pandemic, but it seems very
logical to me, virology lab, bats, wuhan occams razor really

meanwhile, a day after trump gets up and says "yeah, 100000
people will die, if everything goes perfectly" and less than
24hrs later they're busy gaslighting their drones to believe
that trump absolutely never called the virus a hoax

it's not beyond the realms of possibility, the uk have had
chem / bio programmes on the sly for years (porton down etc)
and i assume the chinese have too. seems likelier to have
been an accident i'd say though. all very like the plot of
the stand just without the 99.8% mortality rate and
messianic visions

yeah its very true, one thing i would say is that if the
virus is endemic in the bat population you would expect a
plague like this to have happened before had, i assume the
Chinese have been eating bats for thousands of years, so why
the sudden jump/human transmit-ability is so high. I wouldnt
put it past them meddling where they shouldn't be, but yeah
thats pure speculation on my part

i don't think anyone really knows yet
conventional wisdom applies: i'll believe it when i see a
check
but, meanwhile, i'm sure some people are assuming they'll
simply get a check soon, and there will be some obvious
blowback when some do not
college students, no. elderly people who haven't filed taxes
in a while, shit, we might miss you. meanwhile, it's already
been made clear i, personally, will get nothing, because i
make too much money. i wouldn't definite it as "too much" in
my own personal terms, mind you, this is just what the govt.
says.
also lost, and i think it's still true, for some people it
will just be a loan against payroll taxes
