that one bridge really sees some action

there's one in cambridge near MIT and despite they have
warning signs of the same height that thonk into you, when i
was ten or twelve, i saw a news article indicating the oscar
meyer weiner mobile had gotten itself stuck under that same
bridge

a few years later, the oscar meyer weiner mobile went out of
control down a hill and into someone's house. two very
distraught college girls were found at the wheel; their
first week on the job had not gone well

there will be more. i can feel it in my bones. new england
is not done with these incidents

Why don’t they fix it?
Depends on who “they” are and on what “fix” means.
The North Carolina Railroad Company owns the train trestle,
and their concern is primarily with keeping the trains
running and keeping them running safely. So their concern is
mainly with reducing the impact of the truck crashes on the
actual structure of the train trestle. As far as they are
concerned, they solved that problem by installing the crash
beam.

engineering at its finest.

co2 update:
it was a very mild winter and we saved tons of co2 since
there was less heating required of course. (i would say
there was no winter at all, with barely an frost and
absolutely no snow in my area, which is kind of frightening,
i saw exactly one frozen puddle on a windy field all year)

it was also pretty windy resulting in renewable energies
dominating the enrgy mix in germany with 60% in total. again
im skeptical this is really good news, since we also had
lots of storms that were unusual for the season. it may be
the up side of it though.

now with corona some are folks looking at all the saved co2
emissions thinking, this is helping us in the climate
crisis.
wrong again!

now germany aswell as as other countries may now all of a
sudden be able to fulfill their whimsical, puny goals they
set which in the opinion of many experts (like all worlds
scientists) will hardly prevent bad from getting worse.
lobbyists use this situation to make their claims like its a
new gold rush. its not enough the co2 certificates are dirt
cheap now. car lobby suggests to drop all co2 taxes
altogether as if the cars produced wouldnt pester the cities
for years to come after these horrible months are over.

cant they enjoy clean air just for a month, without having
all their minds set on how to fuck it up again?

yesterday: instacrap says, "we'll deliver this next weekend,
maybe" and asking me to pick substitutes for everything
(since how can they know what the store will have next
weekend?) and i mash "cancel order" with great haste.

today: i go to the store, and they have most of what i want.
i can have a turkey sandwich; i will soon. they even had
paper towels again (a christmas miracle). took less than a
half hour.

i feel for anyone stuck in a condo in the city with no car
who usually gets everything delivered; probably a right pain
about now

went to the cashpoint outside asda, escorted for the first
time all year thanks to bojo's edict. the queue was social
distanced out the door and right around the car park. they
did not have smoked gouda but everything else i wanted
(coke, biscuits, coffee, jalapeno sauce) was there. nobody
in face masks. all in all pretty panic-free

yes, at the store, the cashiers were wearily wiping down the
pin pad after everyone, there are tape lines for distance at
the registers, but overall people seemed more or less weary
of all the nonsense. particularly the cashiers. however,
there were a few customers about the store amidst varying
stage of internal neurotic meltdown; you're sorting through
through the bell peppers and realize there's someone
watching you, waiting, from the end of the aisle, twelve
feet away. am i done yet? i can't get any closer. are you
done yet? i am so freaked out rite now mang. are you done
yet?

some guy wearing a neon pink polar fleece with the hoodie
pulled taught around his melon; he was the worst of the lot
