i wanna play the jaws unleashed game. Sounds totally gay, but its made by the guy who did echo the dolphin, and you get to eat swimming people and chew off limbs. Good for at least 20 minutes surely...

hey ceri
you will not be dissapointed in gradius v. it's quite good. old school challenging and fast gameplay like boxbob said.
i actually bought r-type final and gradius v on the same day and i was incredibly disappointed by r-type final. it had such potential with the large amounts of ships but the gameplay was so slow and boring.
gradius is nice and old school and pretty long. it actually loops for you if you beat the game so if you want to go for a mega huge high score.
plus there are different weapon combinations and when you beat the game you unlock a feature where you can put whatever weapons you want on the ship instead of the preset combo options the game gives you.

i wouldn't mind some game recommendations. i'm mostly looking for a fun racing game (not a simulator) that i can play with friends. actually, i'm pretty much looking for co-op games in general. i have a gamecube and a ps2.

one of the best co-op ideas was in tenchu wrath of heaven, but it wasn't very big, only like 5 levels.
Pro Evo (any) is also great co-op.
As is every online shooter.

im curious about that game. I want to try it but cant see how it has any lasting appeal whatsoever. I liked r-type final, but no passwords just stopped me wanting to play it. To get to where i was killed off last took hours. Gayness.

I haven't played a game since the start of E3. I sort of got carried away by the all the hoopla on messageboards... I'm learning about games and arguing about games, but not playing them. Probably won't get back in the groove until Bloody Money.

Picked up God of War with it's friendlier price tag minus 5 bucks from a BestBuy/PSUnderground coupon I got for registering my ps2 online.
It's a solid game, but I don't think it' deserving of the amount of praise it's gotten, but it's probably just me.
The overly gorey aspect and pointless boobs just seems silly to me. The music isn't anything special and you can see areas where Sony borrowed from other games they've done (Ico, Shadow) but also because of the time/environment it takes place.
A bit too dark of a game for me to put it up there in the 9/10's so I'll give it an 8.
RAIDEN III is due to hit American shores in the future!!!!!!

Got Hitman- Blood Money tonight. It's exactly the same as the other Hitman games, which is fine by me. It's super. Really minor gameplay refinements though... and unfortunately, Hitman quirks like the retarded physics when you shoot someone are still there.
It's also pretty morbidly hilarious, the title screen music being Schubert's ''Ave Maria''. And everytime you beat a level, there's a newspaper article you can read written by a reporter that's trailing you... it's pretty swell reading about your exploits... the articles' content depends on what you do in the level. Reading about myself in the paper, I realize I'm a pretty sloppy Hitman.
I can't wait to get to the suburban level, kill myself some nuclear families.

Gasp!
I beat it and I think it's a wonderful game, but it's almost, like, too funny or something. A lot of moments that made me grin. I preferred the oppressive darkness of Contracts. All the levels were grimy and urban and wet and blue. Jesper Kyd's soundtrack was also a lot better and more clinical. But Blood Money is probably the better game, objectively.

You'll dig it then, lots of colorful locales. I'm just a miser. (the game is also long as hell... money well spent, unlike the puny Contracts).
The end of the game is one of the cooler video game moments ever.

im also hammering away at blood money. I love it. Just finished the alcoholics treatment centre level. The only thing i hate about hitman games is that i had hitman 2 on the PC, and when you use a mouse it's far easier to kill everyone (headshots etc), but using an analog stick on PS2 is just too hard to do headshots under fire. Shame you can't collect all the handguns etc in this one. I used to love the snub revolver in hitman 2 - it was 100% accurate at any distance. Sigh.

ive played Resident Evil 4 about 5 times all the way through, gotten almost every secret weapon, outfit and anything else... simply an amazing game.
God Of War (PS2) is another amazing title.
Devil May Cry 3 is just awesome, brutally hard...
Metal Gear Solid 3... classic.
Lots of amazing Ps2 games out there..... thats what im focusing on right now, even though I just grabbed an old Atari 2600 and a shitload of games, an assload of NES games and SNES games ...

DMC 3 is so fucking hard I can't take it.
*spoiler*
Still playing: Dragon Quest VIII - just beat one of the hardest bosses ever, the two versions of Dhoulmagus. I had to swallow my pride and level up for hours before I could beat him. Luckily his first versions stayed dead, but still it was a close call!
Also, I agree that God of War has some issues which makes me think it's overhyped, although incredibly fun while it lasts.

picked up tomb raider 1 & 2, and driver for ps1 for a lovely 5 and some change.
driver is awesome fun but not as great as i remember it. i'm not a graphics whore myself but the outdated graphics do take away from how i remember the experience.
tomb raider is good. i was really in the mood for some stone moving puzzles and such after playing god of war. i'm not sure if i played tomb raider or owned it years ago but i do remember watching my friend play most it over his house when he first got it. i must say the controls in the game are horrendous, but it is old and i'm used to analog sticks for the most part now.
haven't played tomb raider 2 i'll jump on that if i finish the first one.

Xbox: Ninja Gaiden Black. Strictly for the hardcore. I love difficult, but fair games like this. It is insanely good, credit to Team Ninja for succumbing to the temptation to make it easy so the mainstream would like it more.
PS2: Tourist Trophy (Or "Gran Turismo with motorbikes" as I like to call it). Not as realistic as TT Superbikes, nor as comprehensive as riding spirits 2, but a good game nonetheless. Realistic lap times, performance of bikes, etc. very good replay graphics too.

i actually took the time to read through the thread, and have decided that i still need subsistence, and that i also need chibi robo. i watched a gameplay vid and oh my god it looks addictive. thank you, thread.

i went to the superstore but they didn't have subsistence, and chibi robo was 57$ without taxes, so on a whim (well, i've been thinking about it for a while) i picked up ssx on tour since it was only 18$. it's both my first ssx game and first ea game (since i view the company as completely evil and mainstream in the worst possible way). i don't know if it's the price, or the fact that i love tony hawk games a lot but can't play them since the rollercoaster motions give me headaches, but i love it! it feels like a tony hawk game but on snow and going down a mountain. no headaches! hurrah. i'll never touch an earlier ssx game, however, as the style of the first ones don't appeal to me at all, but this one has nifty menus and music i don't automatically want to filter. plus i gots the gamecube version so it has mario characters in. i need to unlock the nintendo course. best 18$ game i've played this year.

Grand Theft Auto- Liberty City Stories. I've been playing the other games on Xbox 360 and I now have a new respect for the 360's resolution scaling abilites, because LCS is fugly as hell blown up. But it's also extremely fun and all the little things, like the dual analog camera, the better aiming, and the incredibly helpful map complete with manual marker makes this game feel so good. I really miss these things in GTAIII (which I played a bit of to hype myself for this). It used to take me an hour just to find an Ammu-nation in that game because I have no spatial awareness or sense of direction.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat - Shaolin Monks, which is a really fun scrolling beat'em up. After MK Mythologies: Sub Zero, I have no idea how they dared make another attempt, but this time everything works. Especially in 2p mode it's real fun.
Also, Micro Machines v.4, despite bad reviews, is perfectly playable.
(I still haven't beaten DQ8, it's an incredible long game, although I'm FINALLY at the last dungeon with some 70+ hours behind me)
