ive been playing that. It's very disappointing. It's a lot
like that game 'The Getaway' in that it looks good but plays
pretty shitty. I do enjoy kneecapping people, but it's all a
bit lifeless. Very Sega Megadriveish in that all the badguys
are just the same character in different coloured clothing.
Alas, i do still keep playing it. I did see some guy
randomly walking down the street on fire in it yesterday...
weird. ..

Also I've pretty much been playing Metal Gear Online
exclusively lately. Really frustrating game but I can't
stop. I kind of wish those kind of games didn't keep track
of stats because this game keeps track of tons of them and I
get really angry when I have a bad round or something,
tarnish my numbers.

Contracts was my favorite! Wicked soundtrack by Jesper Kyd,
nice dark ambience, that great mansion mission... why didn't
you like it?

(I just wish they'd make it harder to run 'n gun... I don't
feel scared when I play Hitman games because I know I can
kill everybody at my leisure if I get outed)

Yeah some of the city missions were pretty pedestrian. But I
like how freeform they are, you can experiment and make them
more complex and involved than they are. But yeah sometimes
it was too easy to just climb up onto a building and shoot a
guy in the head and call it a day.

Rented 'Tourist Trophy' for ps2

here's my little review so far: (and just to note i'm a bit
of a GT nut. played completely through 1, 3, and 4)

So uhm the makers of gran turismo made a motorcycle game.
cool, i guess.

first off, all but one stage (unless it was in gt2 and i
don't know about it) comes from past gt games, around 30
something. the new stage is valencia, and it's nothing
spectacular. there are over 100 bikes which all look very
nice, but many are different levels of the same model.

the menu system is exactly like gt4, as are the graphics
(not a bad thing). the simulation mode interface is similar
to gt4 but much smaller (just like the game).

the motorcycle control is odd at first, but makes sense once
you get used to it. you can change how the rider sits,
leans, etc. thus changing the handling. riders wipe out if
turning over grass or taking a bump of a corner at a high
speed, or (this is funny looking) going about 2 miles an
hour and making a sharp turn. when you wipe out you lose
some time and start from where you fell...makes sense aside
from the case of dying on your bike (lolz just kidding it's
a videogame)

there is no money system like past gt games (probably
because of the smaller amount of bikes to choose from)

license tests are like past games (a bit easier if you ask
me). bikes are won by beating challenges which consist of
beating another rider on a course within a certain time
frame and laps or passing them and staying infront for over
10 seconds.

also, there are circuit-style races. many are short 3
course one at a time (no point system to determine overall
placement), but there are ones like i just mentioned as
well.

so far i'm 21.3% into it (i've barely played maybe 3 or 4
hours tops) and it's quite easy.

overall, i can't deny that's it a good game, but at the same
time it borrows so much and recycles so much from gt games
it just seems so lacking in anything new.

i'd say motorcycle fans (especially who haven't played past
gt games) wo

(cont)

i'd say motorcycle fans (especially who haven't played past
gt games) would love it, gt fans could go either way (love
gt and love anything resembling it or people like me who
love gt and think it comes off as lacking and a bit of a
cheap spin off)

if you've never played gran turismo games before or even
that much i'd say it's an 8.5 / 10

if you've played gt games quite a bit it's more like a 6.5
or 7 / 10

it's good, but really just belongs as a part of a gran
turismo game

i wonder if that's how it started. perhaps it was worked on
for gt4 and somebody decided to expand it (very minimal) and
make it it's own game

i should say the size of this game is probably around the
first gran turismo, so this could be the start of a very
promising series of games

I didn't realize it's basically a GT rip-off... Wow, I'm
hoping you're right and it's going to become a "promising
series of games", but first they've got to do something else
than follow GT's trail - otherwise we're gonna have to wait
another 10 years (and four new GTs) for Tourist Trophy 2...

I've played the previous GT games (although not so much that
I'm bored of them).

By way of comparison, how realistic would you say the
handling is? For example, will full throttle from a
standstill on a GSX-R1000 make it wheelie and have you off
unless you lean forwards? Likewise, will hard braking using
only the front brake cause a stoppie that makes you go over
the bars? Something I've always felt with the GT series is
that it's too forgiving of crashes and clipping the walls
etc (moreso in 2 player than vs. cpu). Is this the case with
Tourist Trophy?

I really rate TT Superbikes (by Jester); It's the
only bike game ever, IMO, to accurately capture the
handling/control mechanism of a sportsbike. If Tourist
Trophy can do this, with a wider range of bikes, better
graphics, shorter load times and still including proper
"Road Racing" (rather than just tracks), I'll love it.

I'm currently playing MK: Deception (a lot better than
MK4/deadly alliance IMO) and The Punisher. The Punisher is
good fun, sort of Max Payne with torture and human shields.
Well worth the £5 I got it for.

i've never rode a motorcycle (unless you count those arcade
games hahah) so i'm not too sure about the physics all
together, but i trust polyphony did their homework.

from what i've seen so far, the only time you start off at a
standstill is during license tests, the regular races have
you riding towards the starting point to begin, so flipping
off the front probably won't come into play. also, there is
crouching in the game.

it seems like crouching is default but not during turns (you
can hold down a button to do this if you want)

i've done some hard front braking on higher end cycles in
the game and it appears flipping over does not occur (there
is a back brake as well just to note)

wipeouts can occur at high speed with quick left and right
steering when the bike starts to wobble. clipping walls is
only slightly forgiving in this game. i've found you can
skim some barely and others not at all.

i'd say give it a rental if you can. you will probably like
most aspects of the handling but have some gripes as well.

there are different options for control but the default is
set on standard (which i assume is a bit easier) so there is
a possibility of flipping off the bike perhaps in the other
control schemes

i've just searched for some reviews by people who actually
ride, and no luck but i found this little thing from
1up.com:

The list of customizable riding adjustments is impressive,
though, with the gamer able to tweak head roll angle, head
pitch angle, torso roll angle, torso yaw angle, body lean,
arm angle, seat position, lateral slide, vertical slide, leg
angle and body lean. While this may not resonate with casual
gamers, for players who ride motorcycles it's great to be
able to simulate your real-world habits in the context of a
videogame. Like to lean down behind your bike's fairing as
you lean into a chicane, or prefer to lean back -- cruiser
style -- as you slalom through a winding-S? Tourist Trophy
lets you do that.

SO BASICALLY

give it a rent

i picked up the mega man anniversary collection for ps2 for
19$. so far i've beaten the first three and dabbled in the
snes and playstation ones. the playstation one is pretty bad
and the snes one isn't outstanding like the first three
games but enjoyable nonetheless. i'll start up on mega man 4
tonight, possibly.

once my saturn pad comes in i'll pick up the street fighter
anniversary collection for ps2 (i used to own it for xbox,

aye, mega man rules... played most of them on emu
recently... that anniversary collection seemingly has a good
thing going for it... Another thing is the Mega Man X
collection, which has X1-X6... X1 is phenomenal, the rest
just sort of follow the same pattern OVER AND OVER again,
but that's mega man for you I guess... I also like the idea,
in MM Collection, of playing the games in an order, now with
proper save function. Tough challenge. There's no save
state, though, is there? I hear Sonic Mega Collection Plus
had save state, which makes it all the more worthwhile...
Uhm, unless you just want to stick with USB-pads and a
proper emulator... Which works just as fine, tv or no tv.

Silent Hill 3 is really good. Cool occult angle to the whole
game. It goes back to the more overtly disturbing feel from
Silent Hill 1, lots of great imagery and art design.

Silent Hill 4 is by far the worst SH, it has no identity.
But I still think it's worth getting if it's cheap. Still
has great music, has a few memorable scenes and
environments. But it's an inconsistent mess and has a bunch
of gameplay issues. Like limiting the items you can carry
way too much, too much backtracking back to ''the room'',
etc.

Silent Hill 2 is my favorite though, man. It's not nearly as
unsettling as SH1 but I love the somber feel to it. When I
look back at the game, the sad scenes stick out the most to
me, not the scary ones.

i borrowed Final Fantasy VII from a friend, but I haven't
started it yet. Never played a FF game or a Zelda game so
I'm probably a horrible person.

I just won the World Series in MLB2k5, i was finishing up a
full-draft season with the Cubs I started last year. Went
157-5 for the season. My team was insane: Prior, Zambrano,
Beuhrle, Willis, Guardado, Peavy, Sheets, Teixera, Reyes,
Cabrera, Figgins, Wells, Hammock, Crisp, Chavez and others.

In game 4 of the NCLS I won 32-1 w/ 42 hits and as I was
looking at the box score after the game it froze up and I
couldn't save it.

FF7's not at all a bad game to start with, if you don't mind
outdated graphics.

Currently playing Dragon Quest VIII: excellent! Can't go
wrong with adherence to traditional rpg elements - and it's
completely justifed by the fact that this series predates
even Final Fantasy.

i started on suikoden v on i think tuesday. about 12 hours
into it. it's really growing on me! i thought i had grown
out of rpgs (only finished three this gen: final fantasy x,
tales of symphonia and knights of the old republic), but i
had a craving and heard a few good things about it. it's
very cliche but in an old school way, so no angst or
anything. it's only just opening up for me with the
different things i can do. the translation is solid outside
of the dubbing -- i actually read what all the townspeople
say instead of avoiding or skipping them over.

anyway, hopefully it keeps getting better. now that i'm
enjoying an rpg again i'm getting more excited about persona
3, which is probably my most anticipated game at this point.

Sweet, optimus prime! Suikoden V is my next project. I've
skipped over III and IV (for the reason that they never
landed in Europe), but V is supposed to be the best of the
series' second-gen games. I and II were tremendously
satisfying experiences at the time - waaay back when.

I, too, beat Tales of Symphonia a while back, and enjoyed it
quite a bit. The Persona series is one of those rarities I
never got around to playing, although I have no acquired
them in my collection. But if you want to consider further
quality PS2 RPG's, I'd recommend Shadow Hearts (I've played
the first one, but the second is supposed to be the best in
the series), Xenosaga I (haven't played yet) and, of course,
FFXII when it arrives. After all, FFXII is promising to be
better than X, which I ONLY enjoyed very much, and did not
fawn over it. X-2 I won't even comment on.

aphextriplet: I'm only at the point where I acquired the
ability to sail the seas... The sense of vastness is a bit
overwhelming, but luckily teleportation is available. (As
for Godfather, I've seen 15 minutes of it; not worth the
effort, I figured...)

suikoden 2 and persona 2 were probably my favourite rpgs on
the original playstation. suikoden v can't compare to the
classic that is suiko 2, of course, but it definitely,
undeniably holds its own, especially once you make it past
the 13 hour prologue. after that point it's simply
wonderful. i'm finally recruiting characters and stuff like
that now. i love how non-linear it feels at this point, it
brings back good memories of searching for all the little
secrets in suikoden 2. anyway, i'm sure you won't be
disappointed.

i felt the same way about final fantasy x but i'm looking
forward to xii (made by the final fantasy tactics/vagrant
story people, i think).

basically once you've found a place, just zoom to it every

addictive. Especially when you start making crazy weapons

What didn't you like about X-2? I loved it, especially the
music. I still listen to Some Like it Hot (the awesome boss
theme) at least once a week. The only thing I didn't dig is
when it abruptly and permamently shifts gears from ''campy
sex-romp'' mode to ''serious RPG'' mode. That was gay.

Not such much a "Now Playing" and more of a "Should I be
playing?":

I've been thinking about getting Gradius V on the PS2. I
like the older games, and parodius, etc. and quite enjoy
even fairly hardcore shoot em ups like Ikaruga. As I'm
increasingly busy and have less and less time for games (old
age, eh?), I have a policy at the moment of only buying
games I know to be good/that I will play. So, I thought I'd
ask if anyone here has played it and if so, what were your
feelings on it?

Retro Gamer magazine (uk) who I generally respect, reckon
it's without a doubt the best side scrolling shooter ever.
However, I concede that they occassionally say an ok game is
good, or that a good game is excellent. Also, the rest of
the press seem to 'only' rate it as a 70-80% game, rather
than exceptional.

Personally, I was a bit disappointed by R-type final; I
didn't like it as much as the originals, despite the great
graphics and choice of ships (although the soundtrack is
lovely). Is Gradius more of the same, or is it better?
Personally, I find it hard to believe treasure could make a
bad shooter, but thought I'd check.

I've been playing burnout Revenge loads and a bit of halo 2!

I'm having lots of fun with my Usb key for Nintendo DS.

Ophecks, X-2 is a curiosity that's way too easy to hate, I
know. I only played about 15 hours into it, it seemed
enjoyable enough as harmless entertainment. As I've said
elsewhere, I think the game possibly had the best battle
system of the series. The music was alright (the Koda Kumi
tracks were awesome), but I'd take a bland Nobuo soundtrack
over a feature-length Pepsi commercial anyday.

I can't overlook the fact that it's obscenely "camp", if
that's your word. It's too pink, too gay, too girly, too
Americanized, too loud, too pointless, too un-FF.

I guess I would give it a fair 8/10 if it didn't come
marketed as a Final Fantasy. Spin-off or not, it doesn't
stand tall next to the greats of the series. Well, I'm sure
it has its audience. I'm just praying it was an aberration
rather than a sign of things to come...

aphextriplet: cool, flying is my goal in (virtual) life.

Ceri JC: I've only played Gradius V a bit, but it seems good
enough. The only shooter I ever thought was worth buying was
R-Type Delta on PS1. Gradius V is pretty, hard, fast and
serious. If you're into that sort of stuff, it's definitely
interesting. If you didn't like R-Type Final, however, you
might consider twice before buying.

'The New Tetris' for N64. My sister got it and I've been
playing it non stop. The music is actually very
idm/drillnbass/ambient.
