Dragon Warrior (NES)
Found the old system when I was moving into my new place
last week. Played it a bit and realized the hours it takes
to lvl up. So now I'm playing the rom with frame sync off so
I can lvl in minutes.

Today I 'ave been mostly playing The Bouncer for PS2. In
fact, I played it through, from beginning to end, in about 2
hours. That's real time... The internal clock on clear data
says 1:23, which is ridiculously short for a game.

This was my first time (and probably the last!) playing
Bouncer, and two things are obvious. Firstly, the graphics
are still, 5 years after the fact, top notch. Another thing
is that gameplay is still crap. In fact, aside from the
video and sound engineering put into the game, I'd say this
is one of the worst playing games ever. Even stuff like Rise
of the Robots plays smooth compared to this!

Then there's stuff like moronic camera mechanics, some of
the worst A.I. in the history of video games, no "continue"
button (which means pressing "SKIP" a lot), a storyline I
don't give a damn about - oh, and did I mention the game
takes about 2 hours to beat?

Maybe there's some replay value, MAYBE... but that's like
saying you get two cancers for the price of one!

btw, that's a good tactic indeed, especially wonderful in
rpgs (I used it in Golden Sun for GBA).

Mother/Earthbound Zero for NES is one of my favorite games
but it's so ridiculously slow. You walk slow, the text
scrolls slowly, the battles are slow, even buying multiple
items requires lots of effort going through too many
menus... definitely gotta speed it up to tolerate it
nowadays.

I beat Shinobi 3- Return of the Ninja Master this morning.
God Sega was a powerhouse back then. I'm probably going to
get more Genesis games on the Virtual Console than SNES.

(I don't even know why I'm going to bother buying any, since
I have all the roms anyway and the prices are outrageous,
but... I dunno)

Yeah I'm thinking about Red Steel or Rayman Raving Rabbids.

oh and Monkey Ball, seems like a good launch line up. But
all I really need is Zelda. I can't wait to fish.

playing tales of the abyss right now, which rocks. it'll
probably be the first rpg i beat since tales of symphonia,
which was the first rpg i beat since final fantasy x. abyss
is probably the first tales game with characters i actually
like.

okami

almost 20 hours into it

i like it. it's not just the graphics. the gameplay is fun
and the celestial brush is an interesting new way to
interact with things.

optimus i'm suprised you disliked it so much, but i don't
play adventure games often or have i ever played a zelda
game so what do i know (but i did consider getting wind
waker after watching my friend play it quite a bit)

also, what is your avatar?

alllllllso (not particularly relating to opt prime),

i'm considering getting bully eventually. i liked what i
read of the review over at IGN. i've played the first GTA a
handful of times and i liked the aspect of roaming around
and doing what you please but i greatly loathe the excessive
cursing, violence and stupid greasy italian mobsters in
games to follow (not to mention the b to f-rate illegitimate
children the game spawned for almost every other game
company in existance)

I've only played one hour into Okami, but it's fairly
impressive for sure. It shouldn't matter one way or another
if you've played Zelda before, this game rocks. (By the way,
I've played almost every conceivable Zelda through...)

Also, I agree about Bully, it looks really enticing. And
also I think that DNA and Rockstar are too self-conscious
about their "bad boy" image. To call a game Bully and raise
hell with controversy is just a clever marketing trick, and
a way to get sympathy points from fake rebellious youth...

i gave my ps2 to my dad for his birthday with a golf game
that uses sensors (a bit like the wii). He likes it. I
think a wife and a new mac begging me to make tunes on it
are a good enough replacement.

i'm surprised i disliked it too. it *is* a solid game, it
just didn't click with me. and the camera made it impossible
for me to play without getting a headache (literally). i can
easily understand all the love it gets from everyone else.

my avatar is actually a photo of my cat. this
disappointed someone else who thought it was an 'abstract
landscape'. can't win 'em all.

i'll be getting phantasy star universe for ps2 sometime
after it comes out if anyone is up for online play.

and mgs3: substinence (10 bucks yeah) so i've got a lot of
gaming to do

i like bully so far. i'm digging the class minigames

Bully is excellent, as you'd expect from Rockstar. MK
Armageddon is a bit disappointing after Deception, but still
pretty good.

Splinter Cell Double Agent for Xbox 360. Worst Splinter Cell
yet, but still great. Though for a series maligned for
having too many sequels, at least the sequels shake things
up, although this time it was for the worse with way too
many daylight missions, and the levels where you infiltrate
the enemy organization are so annoying. Can't wait for Final
Fantasy XII tomorrow, it sounds epic.

Caught up on a bunch of big recent releases this weekend.

Bought Final Fantasy 12 for PS2... seems brilliant. I
actually really like the art style and beautiful color
palette, and the world seems really vivid and alive. Not
sold on the gameplay (the battle system) but I don't play FF
games for that. I just want beautiful sights and sounds and
events, and it will deliver. My first quest was to hunt an
evil Rogue Tomato with huge fangs, which I thought was
hilarious. I think I'm going to love this game a lot more
than IX or X. Seems to push the PS2 hardware to the limit.

Call of Duty 3 for Xbox 360. More of the same, but much
prettier than COD3. Nothing innovative, but extremely fun
and intense. Just fun.

F.E.A.R for Xbox 360, solid but pretty disappointing.
Alarmingly unscary, generic and devoid of any real sense of
dread, but killing people and messing around with the
physics is fun, especially pinning them the walls with
gigantic metal spike bullets. Sort of paled in comparison to
COD3, which we played right before.

Still waiting on Gears of War, which I hear is incredible.
Would have bought it if I could have found it.

Yeah Gears of War is too hot. I was wary of it because of
the shitty bald space marine ''art'' but the gameplay and
environments are crazy good. I want to puke anytime there's
cutscene because the presentation is so stupid, but the game
itself is intense.

metal gear: wasn't very good but i still have to respect it
since it's the original. i had to use a guide because the
game didn't give much sense of where to go. also the
multiple cards for unmarked doors made no sense.

metal gear 2: solid snake

WOW THIS IS AMAZING

arguably an altered early version of metal gear solid for
psx. so many elements from it and great gameplay to boot.

still gotta finish bully and okami.

Le bumpe

Yeah Metal Gear 2 was visionary. You ever play MGS- Ghost
Babel for Gameboy Color?

I really wish Metal Gear hadn't skipped over the 16-bit
generation. That always seemed inexplicable to me. You'd
think they'd have looked games like Super Metroid and Link
to the Past, see how atmospheric you could make a 16-bit
game, and try it with Metal Gear.

Anyway I am now playing Rallisport Challenge 2 for Xbox,
rediscovering the best racing game I've ever played.

the battle system is addicting, the characters are very
customizable, it has the best art design of any rpg i've
played (sometimes even reminds me a lot of shadow of the
colossus), and the story rarely gets in the way of the game.
i only have 60 hours on it so far, so i should probably go
easy on the hyperbole, but i can't think of any other rpg
i've had this much fun with. the only one that really comes
close is knights of the old republic.

i can't stand most rpgs because of the stories and random,
turn-based battles, and this gets rid of both. when the
story does appear it's basically star wars.

vaan: luke, c3po when around penelo
ashe: princess leia
basch: obi-wan
balthier: han solo
fran: chewbacca
penelo: r2d2

so far my only two major complaints about it (outside of my
original complaint about voice acting) are the lack of
variety in monsters, which is really starting to stand out,
and the fact that you have to load into and out of the map.
i don't see why they couldn't just have the map use an
optional screen overlay like in every other final fantasy.
