well i have my HD TV ready for PS3. The graphics on PS4 seem
WAY better than those on XBOX 360. Especially after seeing 3
trailers for MGS4 - it looks sooo close to real life (which
in itself will inevitably bring about new censorship laws
and stronger cases for violent video game banning - booo).

Can't fucking wait to get MGS4 running in 1080i. Semen. It
will honestly look better than real life.

However... MGS really isn't all that technically advanced,
it just looks so much cooler than everything else because
Kojima's team is the best in the world and the game is just
naturally much more artistically accomplished than anything
on Xbox 360. But I bet you could get it running on the 360
with no performance hit.

Generally, aside from MGS, and despite being a card carrying
Sony fanboy, I've been pretty underwhelmed by the PS3's
graphics... Resistance, Devil May Cry, they all look
great... but really no better than, say, Gears of War.

(of course Gears of War has that silly looking ''plastic''
look you see in most generic FPS games, but just
TECHNICALLY, I'd say it's as robust as anything I've seen on
PS3)

i haven't really seend the graphics of any other games for
PS3. I'll be damn picky about the games i get for it. The
older i get, the less i enjoy most games. They're all so
short and easy compared to the good old early 90's late 80's
games.

Easy, yeah... the devs don't want to spend all that time on
pretty graphics and environments just to beat your ass into
submission before you can ever see them... but... short? It
takes me days or weeks to beat most games these days. Took
me an afternoon or two back in the day, unless it was
ridiculously hard. 17 years later, I still can't beat Little
Nemo- The Dream Master.

I could go for a new R-Type. R-Type Final was great on PS2
but... it was called... R-Type Final...

well, most ps2 games i demolish in 2-3 days. A few were big,
and the ones that have a billion side missions like gta san
andreas packed a punch for a few months. I think they will
inevitably become more like a circle than a straight line.
I've never understood why in games like GTA, they don't give
you the option of playing right from the start, but with
your souped up mega character. That would be awesome.
Alas...

re little nemo... there was this train level which was
really tricky... but more than that: every level was really
full of traps and pitfalls, like the horrible gorillas and
spikes - not to forget those hectic bee flight sequences...
I remember once having reached those roof tops towards the
end of the game; boy did that make me a proud snotty kid!

Without the emulator's save state feature, I'd never have
beaten this game (the same goes for dozens of other games).

How about Little Nemo 3D, eh??

As for ps3, i think the difference in pure processing power
to xbox360 is clear. Maybe only like 20%, but still visible.
It's just too bad I'll never be able to afford it with those
prices! xbox360 (or ANY xbox) i'll never buy, for a number
of well-thought-out reasons and resentments.

PS2 better lower its prices, for one, and come out with an
impressive first and second generation line-up. (Sony
doesn't seem to focus on launches as much as nintendo, for
example.) Still, they have square, capcom and konami. Sure,
not as exclusives, but major supporters anyhow.

And the third option then... Wii MAYBE I'll get; but its
official 250 dollar price tag (but what's it for Europe?) is
not THAT low after all. And I'm also disappointed with the
seeming unavailability of FREE classic console content. Even
at 5-10 dollars or so, paying money for games easily
available as roms doesn't seem reasonable.

Even WITH save states, I've never had the patience to make
it through Little Nemo. The developers of that game were
sadistic. I mean, you expect Contra or Ninja Gaiden to be as
hard as they are, because commandos and ninjas are macho,
but Little Nemo?

I'm very interested in the PS3s fate. While it's true that
every Playstation starts off playing possum, only to bring
out the big guns in its second year, this will be the first
time the new PS is launching AFTER all of its competition.
It's going to be a brawl. I can't wait to see what happens
when it gets its legs.

(I think I spend far more time reading/arguing/following the
video game culture and business than actually playing games
these days)

I'm disapointed in the Wii pricing. It's just a slightly
souped up Gamecube, which you can get new for 80 bucks. The
Virtual Console pricing is pretty ugly, too... why buy a
digital copy of Ninja Gaiden for 5 bucks when you can get a
physical copy for the same price? Or a ROM for nuttin'? I'll
probably pick up a few games just for novelty... Gunstar
Heroes, Earthbound, Super Metroid, hopefully Dynamite
Headdy...

I would be interested in some of the N64 games if they had
some resolution and anti-aliasing enhancements. But with no
Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, it's a bit of a blah selection.

peoples attitude towards PS3 is interesting, its price is
incredible and yet people are still chomping at the bit to
play the same games theyre playing on PS2. ("but in this one
you can SEE snake sweat!!!!!") After this gen and the more
gameplay orientated strategies (microsoft really pushing
live, nintendos virtual console) I really hope the
processing power becomes less of a draw to people. i
personally will be buying a wii because i think nintendos
ideas are really interesting. ill wait and see how blu-ray
pans out and let a couple of price drops pass before even
considering to shell out for new versions of MGS, Driver,
Tekken etc (although new Gradius and King of Fighters has
got me salivating a little)

That's interesting; I didn't even think about the fact that
old Rare games would be out of the selection. That's like a
half of N64's top-10 games! banjo 1&2, dk64, conker, diddy
kong racing, goldeneye, perfect dark...

Oh well, the "virtual console" idea is still a step in the
right direction, if only because eventually one or another
competitor will bring out FREE emulated content. I just hope
it won't be xbox live, because my love for Bill's Box is,
well, not even 'platonic'...

only played for an hour or so and it didn't impress me

seemed like sega trying to cash in on the gta style games w/
some of sega's own flavor added in (heavily borrowed from

gonna play for a few hours today since i'm done work for the

but it's nothing like gta! it's an rpg where the random
battles are in the style of old school beat-'em-ups. the
translation is over-the-top hilarity but makes the game
absolutely embarrassing to play near another human being.
the gameplay opens up a lot more in chapter 4 then keeps
getting better from there (as long as you learn new moves
and such from the kung fu bum).

i still find it weird that people compare it to gta when
it's absolutely nothing like it. the city with its little
side missions is way more like a knights of the old republic
planet than a giant sandbox-style area to romp and go on
rampages in. the only thing similar is that it involves the
crime world, but the big difference here is that there's a
story to it.

but then again i'm a sega fan. :p

Just got a couple new DS games in the last bit.... I have 7
in total now... for my DS Lite. the newest ones are Starfox
and Mario Hoops 3 on 3. Both have kind of a hard learning
curve but once you get the handle of it the fun starts.

Also looking forward to Final Fantasy XII coming out next
month and as well Final Fantasy III which never came out
before in North America or any other English speaking part
of the world, its coming out with all new revamped graphics
(its fully 3D now - looks like it came off of the N64 as
opposed to the NES) and somewhat updated monsters and music
and stuff, totally awesome. Its for the DS. Its going to be
awesome.

I pre ordered a Nintendo Wii and iam getting a Playstation 3
at launch this November. I simply cannot wait.

The PS3 may lose some ground to the 360 but I will bet
anyone it wont be that much. Its slightly more powerful
(which doesnt mean too much if you think about it, but is an
advantage this time around, the PS2 had worse graphics
capabilities than the first Xbox but it was superior because
of the games) has a longer life in store for it because of
the Cell processor and the way its set up, its truly future
proof as opposed to the 360 or Wii.

It has HDMI outputs for the highest possible HD signal, it
can properly output 1080p for Blu-ray and games.

Its games are all on Blu-ray discs as opposed to DVD discs
which the 360 and Wii are on, so a dual DVD disc can only
hold under 10 gigs while a dual layered Bluray disc can hold
up to 50gigs uncompressed.

One of the launch titles for the PS3 (Resistance Fall of
Man) already uses up 22gigs and can support 40 people
online. If they wanted to port the WHOLE version as is over
to the 360 it would have to be 3 discs. And that is just a
luanch title.

The 360 cannot output the maximum HD signal, and it doesnt
have HDMI. It holds its contents on truly last generation
medium such as DVD, it charges you for the good online
service, the PS3 is going to be free online.

And the PS3 will have all the classic franchise 3rd party
games that are exclusive.

The Wii is interesting but will not gain that much ground I
dont think, some... sure, but not tons. It doesnt support
any form of HD at all, and if you actually look at the specs
it is more powerful than the gamecube for sure and the
architechture is positioned and created to handle more than
the Gamecube was but its not nearly as powerful as the 360
or the PS3.

Nintendo got really lucky (well probably not luck) with the
DS and the DS Lite.

Big names have a market share.. a lock on it. The 360 isnt
exactly flying off the shelves. If you look at how many
people still own and play PS1's and PS2's I think Microsoft
has a big fight on their hand in the next few years of the
silly "next gen war".

I remember playing a translation hacked version of the nes
rom of FF3. Was really good till I got a short way in and
they'd not translated the rest, so this might be worth
playing.

The gb (original gameboy) FF3 (completely different game)
was great too. Lots of clever plot twists and time travel
and the ability to mutate/cybernetically enhance your
characters.

RE: What you say about Xbox 360. Very true: I don't know
anyone who has bought one yet.

Oh I mean many have sold.... but not that many, basically it
seems as if most people who bought an xbox will buy a 360
and maybe a few more, but I doubt they will win the "war"
between the consoles. Sony has a huge grip on the market.
Rightly so in my opinion, they have been doing the console
thing longer and more importantly they have the largest
library (and best one) of games and developers.

All the things I said above in my previous posts yesterday
stand true, the PS3 still has a pretty big advantage - even
though this last year it has taken a lot of heat. That has
changed a lot though, the launch date is Nov. 11th in Japan
and Nov. 17th everywhere else except Europe is delayed till
Spring 2007. We will defenitly see, but I can garuntee it
will sell like hot cakes!!!

I share the two of your enthusiasm for FF3 remake.

But Ceri JC, by gameboy's FF3 you must mean Final Fantasy
Legend III, which is actually more related to the "Saga"
series than the mainstream Final Fantasy series. Thought
that needed clearing up.

I too have been underwhelmed by the two X-Boxes so far -
then again, I'm more of a fan of the japanese craft of game
making, which has been underrepresented on X-Box.

Yes, that's the one. It wasn't as polished as the other FF
games I'd played, but I found the ideas more original and it
was the only FF game I've played right to the end. I'm not a
big RPG fan, but that was one of the few ones I enjoyed.

They should do more spinoff ones. The gb "Final Fantasy
Adventure" one that was a bit like Zelda 1 on the Nes was
great too.

I don't think the lack of power or HD is going to matter
much with the Wii. Casual gamers probably don't really care,
or realize. It's going to come down to the games, as usual.
If third parties embrace that weird controller, they're
gonna rock. If not, Mario and Zelda aren't going to be
enough to stymy Final Fantasy/Grand Theft Auto/Metal Gear
Solid/Halo/et al.

(so far it looks like the third parties are wary and the Wii
is getting the third party afterthoughts... like no true
Resident Evil sequel)

BTW I felt like playing Bubble Bobble yesterday after
listening to the first Advantage album. Made it up to level
57... and promptly died, as I always do. Always at level 57.

still yakuza. i have to return it tomorrow but i'm prob
going to re-rent to finish it.

i'm at the end of chapter 11 and that majima guy beat my
ass. he's pretty irritating to fight.

i think i'd rate the game a 7 and i'm being a bit generous
mainly because it reminds me of shenmue so much.

the graphics are great. camera is irritating at times
(especially while fighting and especially while fighting the
above mentioned majima who dodges all over the place and
often off of the screen). the story line is pretty cliche
but works i guess. i always seem to let sub par story lines
pass in videogames because videogames are fun. the fights of
thugs, hoodlums, and yakuza in the street are pretty
irritating and rather unbelievable as to how many people
want to fight this guy.

reminds me of shenmue greatly but with a mature rating
slapped on it. i wonder how much of the graphics and
animation engine was re-used/re-vamped for it. (although i
didn't see an AM-2 anywhere on the box)

and optimus, the game doesn't play like gta, but i can't
help but think those folks over at sega where trying to cash
in on the style (i.e. lack of style substituted by
unnecessary cursing and "mature themes")

i'm all for adult themes in games if it's done well within a
good game but most of the time it seems like a selling point
when it's done to the extent such as yakuza.

so uhm i like the game but there are many parts i don't
like

7/10

p.s. make shenmue III sega

i don't like okami at all. the camera literally gives me a
headache, all of the sound effects are annoying, the style
gets boring after the first forty minutes, it pretty much
has random battles which is irritating in an adventure game,
and overall the game is like a mediocre zelda knock-off. i'm
going to sell it and pick up tales of the abyss next week.
tales of symphonia was one of the only rpgs i ever beat
because it was actually fun to play (i didn't care for the
story or animu at all).

playing okami also made me realise just how much i love
yakuza. so far yakuza is easily my game of the year.

Regarding Metroid Prime Hunters, at first it is a bit hard

Thief 2, I have little money to throw around right now so I
must play the classics again. Feeling stealthy, and Splinter
Cell Double Agent is out in a few days, supposed to be rad.

I revisited RE4 and played through the Assignment Ada side
mission... had a really good time! Total mayhem... Took me a
while to get past some of the enemies, but ultimately I just
rummaged through intuitively. This reinforced my view of
this game as a masterpiece.

Also been playing Company Of Heroes, I'm on level 8 - so far
the greatest RTS I've ever had the chance to encounter...
Despite minor control and A.I. issues the game is top class.

Been playing Zelda OOT. Such an amazing game.

I've also got a Wii preordered with Zelda:TP and Trauma
Center.
Only a couple more weeks until launch!
