night 1: onimusha 1, fun little game that's basically a
beat-'em-up take on the resident evil template. nothing to
write home about.

night 2: onimusha 2, adds enough depth to the combat that
you really feel like you're a badass samurai. really, really
strange and cheesy visual style. no longer comes across as a
resident evil clone.

night 3: onimusha 3, the greatest game in the series
(although that's not saying much) and one of my most
favourite games of all time (which is saying a lot).
absolutely everything comes together -- gameplay, graphics,
cheesy as all heck story -- to create the only truly
memorable experience in the series. combat is fast and
addicting. 10/10.

so i opened up the new onimusha and was massively
disappointed to find that it's basically just an action game
based on the onimusha franchise, which would be why the
number 4 is nowhere to be seen in reference to it.

at its most basic core it reminds me of devil may cry 3 sans
jumping. i'm about five hours into it already so obviously
i'm gradually warming up to it. the graphics are a step down
from onimusha 3. it's painful to watch these really awesome
scenes supposedly using the 'in-game graphics ending' and
then go to the shimmery real-time action. outside of combat
the game feels clunky. it's two discs long so we'll see if
it grows on me more.

Oni 3 was rad. lol @ you thinking you were getting a legit
Oni 4.

The only thing I didn't like about Oni 3 was Jean Reno sort
of wasted... I mean the game was cheesy but I wish they'd
taken it further, sort of a Lethal Weapon/crazy buddy-tandem
kind of thing. But the characters were kind of dry and
boring. It would have been pretty far-out for a mainstream
action video game. The gameplay is impeccable though, I
loved it.

I haven't really been playing anything lately... I replayed
RE4 a couple of weeks ago and it reaffirmed my opinion that
it must be like the best game ever and I think I'm going to
rent Dead Rising for 360, I've got a jonesin' for zombie
killing.

Dead rising looks fun - but honestly it looks like it may
have an issue with getting old rather quickly. Just an
observation, I havent played it yet. Although Ive seen quite
a bit of in game footage.

Lately I've been playing a bit of:

Wario Ware Inc. on GC,
Liberty City Stories on PSP,
Tourist Trophy on PS2,
Smuggler's Run on GC,
Replaying Resident Evil 4 (still haven't got the damned hand
cannon) on the GC.

Mostly though, God of War on PS2. Bloody hell this is a good
game. Really, really enjoying it. Like Ninja Gaiden on the
Xbox, it's one of the few games that manages to really make
a properly controllable 3d version of the old "loads of bad
guys" fighting games. Usually they end up with poor/clunky
lock on systems and you can't really choose exactly which
direction to attack in, etc. but they've nailed it perfectly
here. The ancient Greek mythology setting is pretty original
and very well executed too.

I liked the sex mini-game and the copious boobage. But yeah
God of War is awesome. Nothing original, just
balls-to-the-wall action polished to a mirror sheen. Can't
wait for the sequel.

I downloaded the Dead Rising demo, seems like the definition
of fun rental/good posterity purchase once it hits the
bargain bins. Very fun and clever. I rented Prey for 360 and
it's pretty cool... it has that sort of
indistinguishable-from-every-other-PC-FPS style but it's
enjoyable and slimy.

Traded in my gamecube and most of my games (keeping ikaruga,
beach spikers, monkey ball, metroid prime and mario sunshine
for wii if i get it) and got a ds lite.

i've only played a DS a few times but i think the buttons
and pad on the ds lite are much smaller, which is kinda beat
because i have big hands but i'll get used to it hopefully.
got new super mario bros which is fun.

the only thing i was waiting for on gamecube is super monkey
ball adventure and the next mario game. from what i've read
about monkey ball is it stinks and if i get wii i'll be able
to play mario on it.

gamecube is a bit of a weak system imo

This August I've played a few games through, all of which
are in the 9/10 class of PS2 elite:

1) God Of War - even if overhyped, its still a ridiculously
entertaining and even quite lengthy a game. Can't see myself
playing through this another time, but that's just because
of my short attention span. The sequel ought to be pretty
good!

2) Tomb Raider: Legend - the best Tomb Raider since the
first two. I still think the "improvements" of gameplay
mechanics included throwing a few babies out with the bath
water, since the (however CLUMSY) precision of the previous
games has been replaced by a more automated and more
approximate prince of persia type gameplay. Still, glad to
see the franchise in shape. Extra points for varied level
design and environments.

3) Silent Hill 3 - finally beat this! Took me two years,
honestly. Some of the puzzles on hard level were too much
for me (O FAQ, where art thou??), but overall on par with
the previous installements. Compared with RE4, it just felt
so short, you know? Oh well, Silent Hill is still way
scarier than Resident Evil.

Silent Hill 3 is awesome. But I dunno, Silent Hill is
creepier and more affecting, but I think RE4 is the scariest
game ever. It just feels so daunting.

There's no game I'm looking forward to more than Silent Hill
5, just because I'm so interested in how they're going to
get this series back on track after SH4. I don't want them
to reinvent the series like Capcom did with RE... I just
want them to tell a good story in a creepy setting again,
like the first 2.

Yea I'd agree RE4 is one of the greatest games of all time,
better than SH3 in many ways, but there are factors in RE4
that counteract some of its creepy bits. Stuff like campy
baddies, weapons of mass mayhem and "humorous" dialogue make
RE4 in my mind more of an action/adventure game than a
horror game. Kinda like RE3, or Dino Crisis 1-2. Much better
than these, mind you.

For me RE4 really grew as an experience... It started sort
of meandering, but by third chapter and all the way to the
end, it certainly got more and more epic. Perhaps the
greatest PS2 game since... gee, I don't even know... FF X?
Katamari Damacy? The best of its kind for sure.

Also playing: We Love Katamari. More rolling, more fun.

They better stop making more and more cash-in sequels,
though. Can't beat the original. That's a given. One could
call it the "tetris law of puzzle sequels": no sequel for an
excellent puzzle game improves on the original.

Did I just call Katamari Damacy a puzzle game? Huh.

Totally agree, the cutscenes and story and characterizations
and script and acting and everything like that are HORRIBLE
in RE4, laughably so. I skip every cutscene because crap
like Salazar and Hannigan really takes me out of the game.
In-game is such an intense experience though, I can't walk
into a room without fearing death.

I used to enjoy the B-movie presentation of the RE games,
but now it just contrasts too sharply with how genuinely
scary the actual gameplay is.

Anyway I just dove back into Oblivion for some reason. I'd
gotten bored of it but now I enjoy it again. For some
reason. Still a lot of stuff I wanted to do in that game.

i just completed half life 2. well, the ending was a let
down. and the last bit of the game was easy but you had to
know what you were doing. once you figured it out, not much
skill involved. things that pissed me off were; getting
stuck on bits of the environment; characters getting in your
way, the look analogue stick having the zoom on click
(xbox), generally fiddly controls, stupid storyline.

things that i loved were; awesome battle sequences, strong
atmosphere, not many aliens, varied gameplay.

i give this game

68%

I don't think it's scary in the sense that, loik, Silent
Hill or Fatal Frame are scary, and capable of creeping me
out. RE4 scares me because I always feel like I'm going to
die, whereas I know the things in the other games are all
bark and no bite, they're just playing headgames with me. I
hate to die in videogames, and I must have died 100 times
over the course of my first RE4 save. I was scared of the
enemies.

(and I was scared of the absolutely horrible cut-scenes and
script)

On topic I'm not really playing anything right now, but I've
been following the Tokyo Games Show and waiting with a

The RE remake for GC is definitely the ''creepiest'' RE...

Not exactly sure how it's going to play out, all I know is
the controls are like RE4 and there's 4 ''parts''... the
mansion from RE1, the Police Station from RE2, the city from
RE3, and the village from RE4. So it's more like a sort of
overview that you play, not a sequel. Still cool though.

I'd do anything to see an RE5 trailer in the next few days.
