i bet they're pulling their hair out trying to figure out
what music this is. good thinking!

i've been listening to this wonderful set of music for a
while now..and it's brill..and it's nicely put together
dynamics wise. stand out songs for me are;

simmm
tankakern
90101-5I-I
chenc9
plyphon

for me:
rale
fwzE
WNSN
Simmm
paralel Suns

I like every track though, even bnc Castl (while it dosent
quite fit with the rest of the album)

tolstoyed, I know a few years back you didn't really like
any autechre at all... have you gone back and re-listened to
any Confield/Draft/Gantz Graf recently? Given your
enthusiasm for this and Untilted, you might have a whole
little goldmine you haven't tapped yet.

i pretty much have all their albums and most eps..i love
untilted, it's the one that really got me into them. i
always liked confield, but i still don't have much affection
for most of their earlier work. i appreciate it but it
doesn't hit me anywhere near as much as untilted and now
quaristice do.

Incunabula and Amber are a little spotty, but for me
everything else has stood the test of time. Until
Quarisitice, all their albums needed a lot of listens to
finally warm up... this one is a little more straight
forward.

good stuff

omg plyphon has a circus organ in it, and that rapid fire
bass drum through verb ?i dont know but i have to say this
is the weakest link by far in the LP

i am baffled by the idea that someone could love quaristice
but dislike Draft. can people here please go relisten to
Draft? it will do you good

is it me or is that bnccastl thing close to track b1 off the
new gescom? i find nothing at all to complain about in
quaristice. i love it.

i really feel like quaristice has realigned my listening
perception of ae records allowing me to hear the other stuff
differently. quaristice was a much 'easier' listen the first
time through than most others and now i listen to untilted,
confield and draft tracks differently. does that sound
stupid?

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-02-01 12:29 [#02170549]
Points: 1038 Status: Lurker

no it doesnt, i have noticed the same thing..
Quaristice unlike other AE albums for me, gives away most of
its tricks and layers upon first or 2nd listen. I think this
is because of its improvised feel and its minimalism, but
you're right something unexplainable about it has made me
want to go back and re listen to Untilted and Draft with an
entirely new appreciation for both those albums. I have to
admit as soon as quaristice got in my lap ive been listening
to Untilted and Draft to an equal measure.

No. I feel the same thing. I listened through Untilted again
today for the first time in a long time. I migh be doing
Draft later as well and - of course - I'll be spinning
Quaristice again later as well. It's growing on me and I
love it.

jesus christ i thought 3 months of agony was a bad await but
now waiting for these 11 other tracks for the special
edition is seriously intense.

OMG i just realized something.... is it possible on this
2008 Tour we will get to hear an entirely new live AE set of
all exclusive or mostly exclusive material like we did in
2005 and in 2001?

(crosses fingers)

offline Mertens from Motor City (United States) on 2008-02-01 12:32 [#02170553]

My take.

1st listen: A lot of stuff sounds half assed and weird for
it's own sake.

2nd listen: Sounding a bit more familiar now... those half
assed tracks don't sound so bad now.

3rd listen: Whatdoyaknow? The random sounding stuff actually
has a well structured rhythm.

4th listen: Picking up more and more details... enjoyment
increasing exponentially.

5th listen: Holy Shit! Goddammit it's great to be alive!

Now integrating Quaristice into playlist of entire AE
Discography.
Set to random/repeat.

potentially autechre has just unleashed 3 Lps worth of new
material at one time

Quaristice normal edition - 20 tracks - ~70 minutes
Quaristce special edition disc 2 - 11 tracks ~68 minutes
Quaristice 2008 tour set - ? tracks 50-70 minutes

in total autechre could be unveiling over 3 hours of new
material in the coming months

Elusive, Warp announced the day Quaristice went on bleep
that a special 2 disc version of quaristce limited to 1000
copies was immediately availible for order. It sold out very
quickly and is shipping out on march 3rd. 68 minutes , 11
tracks on a 2nd disc not found on quaristice normal edition.

The second CD is likely to be the Glasgow set, imho, because
that is 68 minutes, can be split roughly into 11 tracks, and
has many of the themes/loops that are in this album.

I'm still not sure about how short the tracks are. I prefer
things to build and develop. NEVER MIND EH? blah.

yeah CS2x dont get my hopes down!! lol no i seriously am
VERY worroied about that possibility too however Sean Booth
stated and i quote
'nah that would be milkin it wouldnt it? i dont like taking
it out of context like that,i hate the soundboard recordings
i much prefer the room recordings, but i dont like taking it
out of context'
(from a soon to be published interview by a watmm member in
Reverb magazine)
so lets hope Sean booth doesnt go against his own words

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-02-01 13:07 [#02170569]

(that was in response to the interviewer asking sean booth
if they'd ever release the Glasgow set as an album in and of
itself )

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-02-01 13:08 [#02170570]

because imo theoretically releasing the glasgow set as a
$60 special edition is the most extreme example of milking
it i have ever seen

Thankyou, you have saved my brain from thinking that it has
wasted £30 on a set I already have. I want your eye.

offline jules from United States on 2008-02-01 13:25 [#02170576]

i highly doubt that bonus disc will be something that we all
already have. plus, its not like we dont have quality copies
of that set either. if there were no good recordings of that
set floating about, then i could see that being a release. i
think it might be more cohesive as tracks flowing into each
other, but more likely 11 of the 20 tracks without beginning
and ends trimmed off.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-02-01 13:28 [#02170578]

well my hopes are very high because Autechre (with the
exception of Basscadet) has never released 'different
version's of their own tracks that, well even resembled the
originals. chances are any retooled tracks will be
drastically different, probably appearing as entirely new
tracks (try finding bits of chichli in chichlisuite)

it simultaneously sounds nothing like Autechre and more like
Autechre than they have sounded since Lp5. i know it sounds
paradoxical but its true.

the album sounds at times like a collaboration between Mr.
Oizo Farmers Manual Urban Tribe and old school Incunabula
Autechre.

I've listened to it fully three times, maybe that's not
