Quaristice: Your Verdict?

Strange, I find it sounding especially empty on headphones.
The first time I tried I took them off with disgust during
Plc. First time such a thing happened.

I also find a lot of it quite empty sounding on headphones,
especially that plc track (which has a pretty dire ending,
to be honest, although I'm impressed with the daring it must
have taken to ruin a track with such a promising opening.)

Loud, out of speakers, though, the album works very nicely
for me. I imagine since it was jammed, it would have also
been made loud, out of speakers.

Cliff's two word rating of Quaristice:

very disappointing

i remember when we were all listening to it that night when
it was released on bleep, you must admit it was a special
night for us. people were quick to make up thier minds on
that evening and i'v noticed the same poeple who didn't like
it are now sying they do. so if you'v just got hold of it,
give it some time.

I would like a serious review of this album by hanal, vlari,

can you define a serious review? : )

it is sonically extremly interesting..it's sort of my belive
that the more of that music they played in those xlt
sessions you like, the better you will like this
album..surely you could like it even if you'd never heard
any music beforehand, but if you did it will just make sense
to you..it works perfect as an album (remember when we had
that 'album' discussion!!), it's rich in detail, dynamic,
rhytmically intriguing and pleasurable listen in any
situation!

i found it much better after i listened to it a shit ton of
times on shuffle. i was less focused on the flow and track
names/numbers and more focused on rhythms and structures of
individual tracks.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-02-14 16:33 [#02175045]

headphones definitely give a much different listening
experience. A lot of the processing they use has a sort of
psychoacoustic effect. listening to it on a good speaker
system was nice but i think headphones was much better

yes jackeroffer, i'm glad you agree, you can hear so much
more detail in the texture of the sounds and its so much
more of an intimate experience

An ok album with the magical ability to make Untilted sound
WAY better. Quaristice is like the negative space of
Autechre's discography... if you pretend its not there it
helps you appreciate everything else much better.

i think that there's a lot more drippy goo surrounding all
of the sharp metallics of usual. it also seems that they
really trimmed the fat off of a lot of stuff. instead of
desonstructing things for 4 minutes, they do it in a minute
here. also, i think that if most of these tracks were all 7
minutes, these would be the parts that everyone talks about
anyway...

i think quaristice deserve an original format to be
analized,
not shitty mp3 burnt in a cd that i only played once...

so, probably, youll give me your review before i even have
it.

all i can say in my only and distant listening is
i enjoyed a lot last track : big ambient one.
and the rest sounded like latest autechre (fucking complex
and mindblowing) but changing his sound palette to a more
dry synthetic electric style...

i promise i will give you a serious review,
the day i get it and have it all under control,
what will take months or even years or never if i have not
enought patience for it...

needing to evoke images of redneck cowboys.

I really think I've heard more than I ever want to hear
jackeroffer and Gl0tch speaking about on any subject, let
alone the enjoyable music of Autechre.

For the record I am British, I have *very bad* teeth and
every American I have ever met or worked with has been very
funny, great company and not wMw, jackeroffer or Gl0tch.
