well sido, you are right, pay per view (ppv) is the shit...
I couldnt watch most of the games on real time... I saw them
12 hours later on public tv. I just see those with spain and
some other few matches that our tv thinks are good for the
audience...

now lets all think about this:

senegal is already amongthe best 8 teams of the world cup
and now they will play against japan or turkey, which in my
opinion are not as good as the africans... imagine what
would be to see senegal in semifinals against brazil or
england... this is a crazy world cup, and i hope spain can
pass

Sweden are so strong, I expected them to win but Senegal
could go all the way now

Svensson hit the post, that was agonising... it was just not
Swedens day

Franz Beckenbauer : "this world cup is being de-valued by
the elimination of many of the great nations"

I couldn't DISagree more, Its great !!!

nacmat> Did U see Real Madrid v Leeds United last season ? I
think todays game will be similar. Ireland will defend deep,
look for the fullbacks (Finnan and Harte/Kelly) to overlap
and provide crosses.. and expect Duff to run at the
defence.

Spain will play like Madrid did in that game, slow and
steady build-ups across the middle, and then look for short
slide-rule passes through gaps in the defence to catch the
Irish on their heels.

I predict 1-1 (Spain scoring first) and then Raul to punch
the ball into the net (like against Leeds) for the Golden
Goal. :)

maybe a golden goal is too much for my heart...so if I dont
post after an hour since the match ends...you will know what
happened to me

I predict 1-1 for Spain - Ireland
and then Ireland winning a golden goal.

hey Phatbert, I wish you luck for Ireland, in case you win I
will support your team in the next draws... but you must
understand, now I just want Spain to beat Ireland no matter
the way we do it.

go spain go!!!

1-0

spanish players are being too lazy since they scored the
goal, and I am afraid, cos irish never give up the fight...
we need to run alittle bit more...we need to give more
passion to it...we are to slow, and ireland was losing 1-0
against camerun and germany and at the end they managed to
equalize the result.

if this is maximum by spain team
they might have problems against better teams
always when i watch spanish team playing, i get the feeling
there is not player that stands out
but if they keep playing like they did i the first half, im
sure they are about to beat ireland

ireland missed a penalty - oh dear - that won't do their
confidence much good

holy fuck! ireland got and scored a penalty in the 89th
minute!!!!!!!!!! this could destroy the spanish confidence!
nacmat, you musta fallen outta your chair when that
happened!!!

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2002-06-16 14:26 [#00268696]

im sorry for you nacmat
but i must say that ireland equalised deservedly
i hate to see teams that clearly possess more quality to
start putting all their effort on defense
and its a paradox with most of the european teams
i would like to see brazil-how will they react if they score
first
as far as penalty is concerned-hierro knew he made a
mistake
but both teams still have their chance

Spain> very silky and incisive early on, but obvious
negative tendecies returned when they came under pressure.
Very ragged for the last half hour and jaded in extra time.
They will know they have been in a match .... one they could
easily have lost.

Ireland > Looked inferior for the first half, but once again
gave everything in the second, and were worth their
equaliser. Not just spirited, they out-played Spain for long
periods after the first 60 minutes. 4 misses in 6 penalty
kicks is just not good enough.

It's a shame that it has to end that way, but Spain go
through. Spain will move on and maybe be stronger in the
next round . They are the lucky ones today !!!

I'm happy for you nacmat :D)

I am sorry Phatbert 000, I am sorry because ireland deserved
to win. Irish players, after losing in the penalties, went
to congratulate the spanish team, for me they acted as
heros... you must be proud of your team, I am not of
mine...I just hope we do better next time...cos today the
irish tried harder and really played a better football.

tolstoyed you said this:
"i hate to see teams that clearly possess more quality to
start putting all their effort on defense "

I totally agree with that, I was too sad to see my team
acting like that... but understand me, I am happy anyway cos
we passed...I just hope they never do this again.

Phabert:
again, it was a great match by ireland, I am happy for
spain, but you showed a great spirit, you played a great
match and your players are really nice people... I now
admire that team.

congrats to all spanish! maybe they didn't deserve this
particular victory all that much, but i'm convinced they can
get further in this world cup than ireland would have got.

and that morientes goal should have counted

You should be convinced of nothing in this world cup. I'm
tempted to jump on Belgium @ 8-1 to beat Brazil in 90
minutes. In this tournament, you never know.

Netlon, you're still a bit bitter about the Irish dumping
out Holland aren't you ? ;-D

now I understand how ireland qualified for this world cup,
leaving netherlands at home, and how they got to 1/8 finals
leaving camerun out... they got there fighting till the end,
with more quality than expected (duff is a great player) and
with a huge effort... believing every second that they could
do it... well they finally couldnt do it, but that was
because for one time spain was very lucky

fighting your way thru the matches is nice, but playing
beautiful footbal is way better, and that's what spain (and
holland, cameroon) are good at.

that's why i'm not sad ireland are out

well spain is capable of playing beautifull football, but
though they have done so in the 3 first matches, they didnt
today...I hope they play well again next match

brazil - belgium

I am sorry for my friends here from usa but my heart goes
with mexico.
about brazil and belgium I dont really care what happens
there, but it would be normal that brazil won...but is
anything normal in this world cup?? ....i dont think so

Its a shame that there is a myth that certain teams play
"Beautiful" football and others just "Fight". Holland are no
more beautiful to watch than Ireland , Cameroon were not
'sexy', and when Spain had to fight, they were not
especially beautiful.

Its a game, If you ever play it you know its all about
pushing yourself 100%, and I really admire teams that do
that . I'm proud of how Ireland played and they proved why
Holland were not even there, they're a damn ugly side at
times, and not a scratch on the great sides of the 70's and
1988 :)

well spain did a great fight in the extra time with only 10
players in the field (albelda was injured and we had done
all the changes) and luis enrique was also injured...so we
could hold the draw with just 9 players...that was epic

hey nac, Spain deserve some luck and fought hard. They had
to !

I'm just saying that I don't subscribe to the view that
teams like Ireland are less enjoyable / less worthy because
they rely on hard work. Netlon's view that only certain
nations can play 'Beautiful' football is bullshit. For
example, he mentions Cameroon ... did they play beautiful
football this time ? Do Holland always play beautiful ?
Spain... honestly, are they always beautiful ? No, they're
not, no team is. And I hope Brazil get beaten to prove
further that hard work and collective spirit is equal to
fancy back-heels. Come on you underdogs !!!!

Amen. :D

i think there are teams that are playing more enjoyable
football than others
i like to see team to create the game-not just to strike
ball somewhere
i don't know irish team to well, but i really enjoyed how
they played today-very attractive
and i am surprised how fit they are-i mean they ran allover
place for two houres, and it seemed like they could do it
for two more
but i don't agree with you about brazil tho
-they are going to win this years cup
