hey fuck you man, of course I got it, I just thought it was
pretty lame that's all.

Anything I post here you'll think is lame... anyways, I
don't want to hijack Phob's request for a logo thread, so
let's leave it at that.

I'll do up some concepts this weekend and see what the old
creative juices form...

I take it there are no size limitations? I mean surely you
alreay have the structure of the site done so what are we
talking about? A rectangle up the top? A square on the left
hand side? Or is it totally up to us?
cheers

not dynamic in a technical way - but it should be flexible
and scalable enough to use in various situations; website,
t-shirts, small banners, icons, slipmats etc etc....

and when you think of it - a small 20x20 gif anim wouldn't
do the job.

Can we vote on the winner in a poll like the AE remix
contest? Like The top 10 or so are put into a poll for the
community to decide what logo represents us/the site

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2003-10-08 15:46 [#00895013]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

A people's vote would be nice, but Phob might want to pick
it himself since he'd have to live with it if everyone
picked a design he didn't care for.

offline Asche XL on 2003-10-08 15:51 [#00895017]

Well, he doesn't necessarily have to go with the one we
choose but it would still be nice to see what the popular
opinon is.

but you're getting a free logo that you can use to sell
t-shirts and other items...? i think you're getting a better
end of the deal than the person winning a 14 dollar dvd.
some people get paid hundreds of dollars or more to design
commercial logos..

But he's not forcing people to design something. You're
getting a free site as part of the deal as well. That surely
covers the 100's of dollars you talk about.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2003-10-08 16:13 [#00895049]

i'm not saying he should give the winner hundreds of
dollars, i'm just making an observation that this is a
really good opportunity for him to get something practically
free that would cost other web sites a lot of money.

whoops!

i suddenly got loads of emails from contributors telling me
to cancel their submissions - they are practically
losing money!

"spock! do something!"

3 mins later:

no, wait... what's this? somone actually messaged me and
said he had a lots of fun doing this, and would feel pretty
honoured if his creation were displayed and shown everywhere
- and that he would actually get a DVD for his work!

i'm the one losing money here. instead of designing the logo
myself (or using one of my finished logos) for free, i set
off this contest and gives away a DVD.

The vote idea is fun (and you needn't go with the popular
vote). You could make an temporary xltronic logo gallery for
submissions.

having a logo that you designed used on a high profile site
such as this would make a great portfolio piece.

and phobia; i plan on touching up the logo i sent. no major
changes or anything, but i kinda want to make it a tad more
symetrical.

having a logo that you designed used on a high profile
site such as this would make a great portfolio piece.

definitely! that'd be reason enough for most people. but
once all these shirts and slipmats are sold with your logo
and you're not seeing any profit...? it's hypothetical.

offline giginger from Milky Beans (United Kingdom) on 2003-10-08 17:20 [#00895153]
Points: 26326 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

That's a bit of a cynical view isn't it? If my design was
chosen I wouldn't mind it being used as part of the site.
I'd see it as a contribution to the running of the site.
Phob isn't really going to selll that much stuff that he's
going to be riolling in the proverbial mad notes. What he
sells will always go into this site. I for one would be more
than happy for thata nd I'm sue many others would too.

you've got a very valid point.

however, i'd be flattered to see a peice of my work getting
such exposure, and i'd be happy to forfeit the $150 or
whatever.

same here actually.. i've done loads of "charity" graphic
design, i get a kick out of it. i'm sure phobia isn't making
any $ off this site (costs more to run than the donations
and cd sales he's receiving) but i didn't realize i wasn't
allowed to bring up the question of making money off of
someone else's work. i'm sure whoever wins will be happy
that their logo will be used for all sorts of things, i was
just curious if anyone who's thinking about contributing
would mind if it were put on products for sale instead of
just the web site itself.

of course you're allowed to discuss it. i don't think
anyone said you couldn't. i was just stating my point of
view is all. i wouldn't submitted a logo if i wasn't
willing to donate it to the cause.
