recoba is actually one of my favourite players-tho its true
about him beeing little selfish, but i just love the way he
plays-really very technical player

Well there goes the myth about Italy's defence..
Only Brazil have yet to undermine their high esteem amongst
the favourites..

This world cup is amazing !!!

Italy will still qualify, they should have won today, and at
least one of the disallowed goals should have stood... 2-2
would have been fair, and Totti's freekick !!! The
slow-motion shows the goalkeeper half-reaching/waving for
the ball as it goes across the line behind him, it is a
great football moment !!

nac> I enjoyed your review, and this IS a great thread, &
the best action is yet to come :)

this is bad news for spain cos now we can encounter Italy
before we had expected... probably in 1/4 finals if they
dont finish 1st of their group, if they finish 1st then the
most probably is that we encountered them in 1/2finals (if
we reached there)
I think italy scored and the referee said it wasnt legal,
but it really was...I am sorry woofer

No, its the linesmans fault on both occasions, the referee
has to trust his linesmen, and that linesman was very dodgy,
just look at his haircut

i hope this defeat is going to force italy to focus on
attack-i mean they have inzaghi, del vecchio and del piero
sitting on the bench

them !

for last match on this round:

if france doesnt win they are out
if argentina doesnt win they are out
and italy has it difficult too...mexico is not bad at all

brazil may have it easy

germany still has a difficult match to qualify, they could
be out too if they loose with camerun...

so...

o, and portugal, they have it really hard too.

this is a fantastic world cup, (more for the results than
for the quality of the football they are playing though)

i can't understand why things like that are happening
couple of days ago i watched a documentary about english
hooligans and i was pretty much shocked-it seems they are
not enjoying the football game-they are actually just
looking for a fight
tho i don't know if this situation had anything to do with

so far this players have impressed me very much:

-korea: I dont know their names, but I know some of them
were quite good.

-senegal: diouf
-denmark: tomasson
-spain: de pedro
-brazil: ronaldo, cafu, roberto carlos
-usa: donovan
-germany: ballack, klose
-ireland: duff
-sweden: larsson
-italy: vieri
-japan: inamoto

-brazil: ronaldo, cafu, roberto carlos
maybe this is too much...
but surely ronald is doing great... what I most admire of
brazil right now is that with these two defenders (cafu an
roberto carlos) they attack a lot... and they still defend
quite well, so this makes it so hard for the opponent, cos
they have to defend from the sides and then they have
ronaldo , rivaldo and ronaldinho attacking in the centre and
even junhinho coming free... this means lots of people
attacking, and thats so hard to stop, cos when you are to
concentrated ondefending the centre then they come by the
sides and if you try to stop them on the sides you leave too
many free strikers in the centre...and they are ronaldo
rivaldo and ronaldinho... too much... thats why brazil is so
strong, but they make a big mistake, they all try to make
their own great performance, instead of playing more as a
team...if they did so, it would be very difficult to win
them, cos they have also great defenders in the centre
(lucio) and a solid middfielder (emmerson, though he is
injured for the cup now) but as they are so individualist
and they dont work as a unique team, they will find really
haerd to win against strong teams (remember that they have
only played against turkey and china so far.)

well brazil have lost my respect, i think. they acted like
amateurs against the turks. not their play, but the way they
treated them. they wouldn't even let the turks take their
freekicks normally, they all came rushing forwards before
the man even kicked the ball. and what rivaldo did was
unforgivable. i hope they go out soon, and i expect so too,
cause they aren't playing very effectively.

tomorrow will be aboring day for football with those matches
:)

its true that what rivaldo did was so bad and embarrasing, I
mean...how can a profesional act like that...but besides...
I dont understand what do you mean about brazil´s attitude
against turkey

mexico 2 ecuador 1

ecuador is another team to say goodbye, with slovenia,
china, nigeria and arabia suadi.

I think ecuador could have done better.

turkey 0 costa rica 0 (still playing) if turkey loses...bye
bye too.

first and second of this group could meet spain in 1/4 or
1/2 finals.

tremendous oportunity costa rica had right now...

Interesting article in The Observer about Spains attitude to
the world cup...

"...the World cup can only be seen via Digital, a satellite
channel to which barely half a million Spaniards subscribe.
There is nothing dimly resembling a national supporters'
club. According to Spanish journalists who were at Spains
first game against Slovenia, there were only 50 Spanish-born
fans at the stadium. Davis Albelda the Valencia midfielder
talks about the ethusiasm of players and fans...' I play in
a club side full of Argentine players and I see that they
have a much stronger feeling for their national team...I
think we can change, we have to'.

Spanish teams have always been carried to greatness by
foreigners ; Cruyff, Maradona, Schuster, Romario, Ronaldo,
Rivaldo, Figo and Zidane... This has translated for the fans
into a curious mixture of club-based provincialism and a
cosmopolitan admiration for alll foreign players wherever
they might be from. And on the Spanish players' side, when
it comes to the world atage, they have a certain lack of
self-esteem. That was what Gaizka Mendieta meant when he
said last week..'Italians always stand up for Italians
first. Spaniards seem to be more interested in players from
abroad.'

Raul , after the win against Slovenia, asked at the press
conference if it was true that the streets were empty in
Spain. An English, Italian, Brazillian or Argentinian player
wouldn't need to ask. When told that , yes, the streets were
empty, Raul was genuinely thrilled. Now he wants more empty
streets, right up to the final."

The article tries to explain the background to Spains low
standings in the tournaments history, but goes on to display
a turning of the tide, a new belief that in Raul, Spain has
a man who can lead the side beyond their history into a new
era of success. Its a very good positive article and I feel
much more interested in Spain all the time, I hope they go
on, (but not at the expense of Ireland!)

It's crap that you can't all see the games. Every game is li

spanish public television didnt buy the rights so we have to
fuck off... its shit, and I am only watching the matches 12
hours later they happen... but thats how it is...so what can
i do?... about 50 spaniards only being in korea... well what
can i say...we have bee frustrated so many times with our
team that maybe we dont want to spend the money for
nothing... that about not having a nation steem its true,
but that changes with succes and it is truth that raul can
change that...you see y am a barcelona fan, but i love raul
when he plays for spain even though he is from real
madrid... so this shows we are not that
provincialists...anyway i get the point of the article...its
clear that we dont feel the same towards our county team
than what argentinians, english or italians do

I know you feel strongly, and all of Spain will too with
success !!

Look at Ireland, before 1990 no history at all, no
professional football league at all in Ireland, no
supporters, nothing.

Now they have some of the best support in the world , they
are very passionate and also very well behaved (but they
needed Jack Charlton and now Mick McCarthy who are both
English, and English players who have Irish
Grandparents/Parents. There are quite a few in this
squad..)

So thats what I mean, this could be THE moment for Spain ,
like the Berlin Wall coming down, landing on the moon, like
1966 for England :-)
