I read in the papers at the weekend there that President
Bush and Tony Blair are going to "take out" Saddam Hussein.
Now as much as I like the Western Continent and Im sorry if
I upset you here, but I dont agree too much with your
president because I feel he is too much like his father but
more trigger happy. Im headin to the RAF soon and the last
thing Id like to see is Gulf War part 2.

Not only that but I also hear that President Nixon wanted to
use nuclear weaponry in Vietnam.... Its amazing what the
american government releases every 25 years.

Whats your feelings on this subject...?

The world is fucking crazy. I like to just ignore all the
bad news, all the news about wars over there. I'm just SO
glad I wasn't born in one of those middle eastern countries.

The US tries to justify its wars for economic interests as a
"War on Terrorism". The US is the biggest terrorist state
the world has known. Who is the only country to have ever
dropped nuclear bombs? Yep the good ole USofA.

I agree. Its rather funny when you sign up for a military
job (Im gonna do Avionics engineering) coz on the form you
get, one of the small printed parts says something like;

"You must not be or have been supportive or involved in any
terrorist groups"

I guess no-one can apply then because Britain and the US are
pretty much like terrorists.....

i predicted they would take on iraq again way back in
september - they want the oil, the president was put in
power by oil execs. so the logical step is to fuck over
saddam hussein some more

I know, I like to just pretend it's not happening. Did you
read that article by some modern philosopher who claimed the
gulf war didn't actually exist, only on TV and in our heads?

I can't remember a thing about the Gulf War. And I'd rather
not... naive as I may be, I prefer to live in my own little
world, away from war and all that violence. And it's not
hard to do, being Canadian. Lucky me. We're relatively
neutral, at least compared to that killing machine to our
south.

What happens if we have another cold war? Its a real
possibility as China embraces the free market and starts to
compete with the US. Canada will not necessarily be safe
then. I know those mounties are good but they ain't that
good.

well your sentiments are all very well, but it didn't work
for the peace movement of the 1960s and it sure as hell
ain't gonna work in these diseased times - the moneymakers
and the lawmakers want us to either 01) take drugs and opt
out or 02) make lots of lovely money and give it to them to
oil their anal passages...

either way they win

Sigh... the government... what a horrible thing. Billions of
people being controlled by a small handful... I know I can't
ignore it, it's too big an issue, but that's what I try to
do. Frankly, being Canadian and being on the side of the Big
Bad States, it's quite nice. I doubt China's going to do
anything to us poor Canadians... not in my lifetime. I'm
confident of this. If I wake up tomorrow with a Chinese
missile in my bed with me, set to explode, then I guess I'll
be proven wrong... but I feel safe. Fuck China.

Nothing, someone just metioned China and the whole ''new

example. China attacks Canada, US kicks China's ass, etc. I
could have used Nigeria, for all it matters! Those dangerous
Nigerians and their nuclear missles.

20,000 people demonstrated against the war (Bush's war) last
month and 70,000 people gathered for a conference in Porte
Alegre in S. America ata anti-capitalist social forum. Pople
are begining to stir despite the blank out by the mainstream
media.

There is a wave of strikes hitting the UK.

Ophecks - don't write us off just yet. The
anti-capitalist/anti-war movement is growing.

Saddam Hussein was all well and good for Britain and the US
until he invaded Kuwait. It was a case of "he's an animal,
but he's our animal". When he stopped towing the line he
became enemy no.1. That's why we can't trust our
hypocritical leaders.

Sigh... it's so hard for me to complain about governments
and war and corrupt bullshit rulers... because I'm pretty
content. I'm just so indifferent... everyone can protest all
they want, it's not accomplishing jack shit. Sad fact is,
George Dubya is our God, we're his bitches. As George goes,
so goes the world. He's not the first leader to use force,
won't be the last... can't change that.

It's just such a helpless feeling... what can I do,
absolutely nothing. Just hope our ''great leaders'' don't
fuck up TOO much. Considering I don't have ANY worries in my
life right now, aside from the trite and shallow, life is
good for me, and I can't complain. I just don't have the
motivation to crusade against this horrible government that
has, frankly, made life pretty damn good for us privleged
western worlders. Maybe at the expense of the rest of the
world, yeah... but considering there's so many ENDLESS wars
that people can't work out in other countries, not involving
the US, I'd say they'd better work something out quick. The
US isn't the only violent bully.

I wonder how the rest of the world would operate if left to
their own devices... no contact with Americans. I wonder if
they'd prosper, or collpase... I just wonder.

Doesn't surprise me.

They keep dressing up their wars as humanitarian and yet
have Israel and Saudi Arabia as their bulwarks in the middle
east.

The Taliban took their brand of Islam from Saudi Arabia
where a monarchy rules through repression. Democracy is
non-existent.

As for Israel murdering Palestinians and bulldozing housing
in the West Bank and Gaza...

"Freedom loving peoples". Yeah right George.

Yo, if people had had your indifferent attitude about Nixon,
he would have got away with terrible terrible crimes -- but
people were MADE to give a fuck, and he was forced to eat
shit and resign, whilst his appointed vice-president gave
him a full pardon for any crimes he committed, thus ensuring
he got his million-dollar a year pension and all the other
bonuses ex-presidents get.

Man people can change the world. Check your history books.
How do you think we got from feudalism to capitalism to
global capitalism?

In Britian votes were fought for; as were votes for women,
the right to join a trade union, the eight hour working day
and countless other struggles.

How do you think Apartheid in S. Africa ended? How did the
Berling wall fall? How did black people in the US fight for
civil rights?

The US lost the Vietnam war and have been trying to retain
their dominant military might ever since - hence the current
situation.

Always remember the wise words of Ali:

"No Vietcong ever called me nigger".

Oppressed people are the same the world over. And there are
oppressed people in the west. We may have out TVs, washing
machines and cars but we're not free.

A lot of young men are going to die. Most of the boys
envolved will not understand what they are fighting for.
Think about that the next time you see a war memorial.

I know, I know... people can change the world. But I don't
have the motivation to do it, myself... I'm happy. I just
don't worry about politics, wars, things like that. I worry
about little things. I'm content in my naiviety. Life is too
short, I'll leave it to people like you who WILL take a
stand. I won't, I'm too timid.

You can't change human nature, though... you can bring down
a big wall and stop racist oppression, but I just don't see
wars ever ending. Good luck protesting against Bush's
''wars''... I'm with you. I hope the world straightens out,
and I know people can influence it. People can make a
difference. But you know wars are going to rage anyway,
people are going to die... it's always going to happen, it
hasn't gotten any better, in general. It's just frustrating.
There will be fighting and violence and wars as long as we
exist. Some people are just evil.

Some people are just evil?

C'mon man. If you want to understand the world you can't
just dismiss wars as the product of "evil".

Its all about economics. Wars are about states fighting for
control of markets or resources (in the current situation
its oil). If you remove the profit motive then you take away
the need for war. Socialism is our only alternative.

Good luck with the socialism thing... ain't gonna happen.
Everytime I read about socialism, I can't help but smile,
thinking how absurd it is that people actually think that
capitalism will give way to THAT. Maybe someday, when the
world is vastly different... but not in my lifetime. And I
don't care what happens outside of my lifetime.

I do see saddam as a threat but I'm very weary/wary (?) of
all this media...It makes me angry that the US takes such a
moral highground on terrorism saying it should be stamped
out and taking it so seriously now when for the past 25
years they have done little to get rid of the IRA networks
in the US and stop the arms shipments to ireland...where
were they when there was the canary wharf bomb? (granted not
to same scale). Blair sucking bush's arse worries me and I
think we have to read a very thin line if things aren't
going to go to shit with regards to the middle east.
