Gulf War II?

Just a couple of small observations, the US defense budget
isn't $450 million, the 2004 budget is $380 million, which
is 4.2% up on the current year.

UN sanctions haven't caused 1.5 million deaths in Iraq.
Saddam Hussein can sell as much oil as he likes to buy food
and medical supplies but chooses not to. Saddam is killing
his people, not the UN.

Incidentally, today is the 15th anniversary of the day
Saddam Hussein gassed 5000 of his own people in the town of
Halabja.

I'm not saying that Sadam isn't killing his own people, but
economic boycots have the most effect on the weaker part of
the population.
Further: Sadam is not allowed to sell as much oil as he
likes, there is a limit (I do not know how much).

And I have one question: where does Bush get the right to
say that others are not allowed to have weapons of mass
destruction while he has them himself? What if other nations
woul say that america is a threat to world peace? Would he
like others to invade his country?
America should not be playing police of the world, they have
no right to do so!

Iraq can sell as much oil as it likes. The limitations were
lifted in December 1999. More info here.

The difference with Iraq having WMD and the US having WMD is
that the US is a democracy with various checks and balances
so strictly control their develoment and usage.

well we are really near morocco

and if this war lasts more than expected it wouldnt be
strange that more islamic countries joined irak... and we
are right in the borderline with the islamic world

(which for me is great cos I love their culture)

I am personally in favour of a democracy of course, but the
western world has no right whatsoever to say it is better.
The people over there have a different culture, that we do
not understand. All the other country's over their are
governed mostly in the same way, are the US going to
overthrow them all?

Furthermore: Sadam has never used his WMD as far as I know
(I might be wrong).

And one thing: as with Al Quaida, who are the ones that gave
Sadam weaponry in the 80's? Who taught Sadam how to fight
Iran?

The US needs to stop messing around in other parts of the
word. We all know that their army is stronger and more
technologicaly advanced. What's the use? Guarding world
peace by war?

Every war they have fought (and they have fought many) has
had consequences!
You should watch the movie "bowling for columbine"!

Last question: why is he fighting terrorism by attacking
(bush hasn't attacked yet, but it will come), but doesn't he
do a thing about Israel/Palestine (There are multiple
resolutions on this case and the Israelians have not
followed even one). U try to explain this double moral to
Iraqi's.

I'm all for a war, and I'll tell you why...
Standards and society have gotten shitter and shitter over
the years, and we all know how wars pull people together.
It is going to happen, and while I feel dreadfully sorry for
the innocents who will die, in the overall grand scheme of
things everything will be better. I hate all these people
who go out protesting, when the war is over and we have our
peace back what are the nay-sayers going to say then? And
they definetly won't be given any respect from the US or
Britain, amongst other countries...
A war is what has been needed for eons, society is
completely ****ed, something drastic needs to happen to
bring us all back together and put back some standards.
That's my view.

ok ok... I have to calm down a bit...

how could I explain... (my english is so poor)

you said: "while I feel dreadfully sorry for
the innocents who will die, in the overall grand scheme of
things everything will be better"

I just think that doesnt make sense... I doubt it will get
better

the thing is usa is going to attack suposedly cos irak
breaks lots of UN laws... but if usa attack thats breaking a
UN law... it sounds ridiculous

another thing you said:
"society have gotten shitter and shitter over
the years, and we all know how wars pull people together"

war pulls people together? didnt know that... I would have
sweared that wars make people fight against eachother

and because this society is shiter every time is why we
still think of wars

the only country up to war ??? must be terrible to live

Incase you didn't realize Nacmat, teh UN is the most useless
organization ont he planet, when was the last time they did
anything, they are PATHETIC! Take your balls out of the
'laws' purse and look at the bigger picture ffs...

My point about society was obvious, you obviously didn't
pick up on it though. What was everyone like when the
september 11 event occured? it was like another world,
everyone was united and talking to each other and we were
not pretentious at all...the war would bring people together
in a much bigger way (in the grand scheme of things ffs, not
just the ppl fighting!!), society is going downhill at the
moment as has been for ages

good point:

I am ashamed of my governors!!

our governors are up to war, not the spanish people

I didnt vote for this governor, but people who did, did it 3
years ago, if we had known this, I doubt they (the actual
goverment)would have won the elections.

the 15th of february more than 4 million people protested in
spain for the goverment position towards war

yesterday not so many people but still lots of people did.

in madrid about 400000 people this time took the streets to
protest.

spanish people are against this war.
our fucking nazi president is alone in this, with his
fucking ministers

irakies

saddam is killing his people all the time my friend...saddam
has a high probablity of giving rogue terrorists in the near
vicinity of his chemical weapons...more inncocents will die
and round we go again till we realise we should ahve done
something...

its ridiculous, the world didnt change on 11.9, its a media
illusion dude !!

AE_king:

the only thing this war will bring is even more hatred
towards the USA.

Why is it that mostly the USA are the target of terrorist
attacks? Indeed: the wars from before!

I don't agree with fundamentalism of terrorism, but this is
what you create when you wil go out to f*cking war. That
americans can be so stupid not to see that, daimn.

The thing is: we western people (people of the so called
civilised world) do not understand muslim culture, it is
different. Not better, not worse than ours; different. We
need to stop this cultural imperialism. It 's the same as
the nazi's, it 's the same as the spanish and portugues in
southern america, it's the same with aboriginals in
Australia, the same with colonialism in africa, the list is
endless.
Haven't we learned anything from out history books?

The only thing war generates is hatred!

now that is some reasonable argument... and not that first
one about war pulling people together.

about saddam being a fuking bastard... I know, so he should
be judged and sent to prison.
for that it would be neccessary that UN was not as useless
as you say (and I agree) it is.

so the thing is to give the UN the correct power and solve
this. not to kill people.

there are ways of getting sadam others than war

You are wrong about Saddam never using WMD. As I mentioned
previously, today is the 15th anniversary of him gassing
5000 of his own people in Halabja. He's also used WMD on the
marsh arabs in the south.

As for Bush not doing anything about Israel/Palestine I
would have agreed with you before Friday, but now this
roadmap for peace has been released which has the inention
of solving that issue.

Whether or not it will is a different matter entirely, but
it seems like a perfectly logical plan.

It doesn't automatically follow that going to war with
someone leads to terrorism. The US han't had a problem with
Vietnamese or Korean terrorism. The UK hasn't suffered from
Argentinian terrorism.

Most terrorism tends to be a result of internal political
conflicts, such as in Northern Ireland, Nepal or the
Philippines. Cross-border terrorism seems to be a primarily
muslim state phenomenon.

That said, i've only thought about this for 2 minutes :P

I don't think there's anything to worry about with China.
Aside from occasional sabre-rattling at Taiwan they seem to
just get along with things by themselves. Something tells me
short-term conflict isn't their style, that they tend to
think things through decades in advance.
