i meant that's a stupid thing to say of trent
and sincerity in music production is on a gliding scale from
real music (thus valued by me) to bubblegum pop for
teenagers

Grohl did play drum-things on a lot of the tracks,
apparently.

Dave Grohl is in ever band now.

Home is nice. its a good B side. i didn't go to the
listening party but the closest to me was LA. i'm in the
northers part of southern CA.

i agree with recycle/evolume/pantalaimon's reviews and
opinions ^^

this album is different [for me] from other NIN albums, i'm
not exactly sure why,...i know trent said it would be more
raw, like 13 straight shots to the face or w/e but i still
dont think its that,....it does have those 2 or 3 really
spine-tingling songs, but it also has an edge to it other
NIN albums didnt seem to have....
altho i can admit trent was going for a more mainstream
sound this time around, whether he fully meant or not, but
it gives the hardcore listeners a sort of different view i
think
@.@
oh well

fav. tracks: Only, sunspots, every day is exactly the same,
right where it belongs, (and Home, the bonus track, is cool
too, reminiscent of TDS for mekinda.)

i've been listening to this every day since it came out. i
can keep it on repeat for hours. i guess i still listen to
it so much because it sounds different than what i expected
and am still trying to figure out what makes it a nin album.
what i've come to think is that album shares more
similarities with pretty hate machine than any of his other
albums. alot of the lyrics are pretty weak though.

I just listened to it all the way through, there goes an
hour I wont get back. If this was his first album he could
get away with it, absolutly fogettable, not one hook to make
me listen again. The only relitivly interesting track was
"beside you in time" but still boring.

Trent-School Report 2005

Must try harder a very dissapointing year. He is a classic
underacheaver doing the absolute minimum. If Trent continues
down this path he will not qualify to do A-Levels.

I found the song..."only" i think it was, to be one of the
cheesiest songs I've ever heard. It seemed like he was
trying to channel a 16 year old version of himself and
capture that in song, and it just ended up...bad.

Unbelievable! I understand expectations and even blind
faith but that is ridiculous! Linkin Park are more
subsersive now. NIN have allways been pop, what do you mean?

trent makes nice soundscapes. he should stick to that and
go easy on the vocals.

i think this album sounds like he's coming out of a fog.
like a phase has passed. maybe it's the interview i read
about him kicking booze, but i can understand why this album
sounds the way it does.

its clearer headed and focused on a move toward something
less pestilent. Downward Spiral was good because it was
souly that infected thing and that kept that record going in
a definate direction. i'm not sure mass audiences like
things that conflict by going in different directions at
once and maybe thats what The Fragile was, but who knows.

and the man will probably continue in his career by doing
movie scores, like Elfman.

offline r40f from qrters tea party on 2005-05-16 20:46 [#01601725]

i really don't think he's in the music biz to make movie
score like elfman - i think he wants to be a rock star
probably and make lots of $ and have that whole thing
happening.

anyway, what i've noticed is that when ministry "re-united"
and al jourgensen became "sober," they made one of their
absolute worst albums. maybe it is the same deal here.

called The Flaming.

I also think he'll go into soundtracks more and more.

because he has said in interviews he thinks he'll do that
eventually.

oh, in that case, full steam ahead! the sooner the better
because what he's doing now is really awful. i guess i
don't read enough NIN interviews...

at least he won't do something as godawful as gathering up a
few b-sides that are poor at best and add about 2 or 3
mildly interesting demo versions- hold on.. wait one

whenever I hear the song "everyday is exactly the same" I
always mishear:

I believe I can see the future
As I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose

..and think Reznor is being sad for no longer having his
porpoise. aww.
