I just don't like this illustrative cinema. You know, where every scene moves the story forward and there is no place for atmosphere, just events. Kind of like novels for reading on a train. It's a very good example of how you should make your films to able to afford another one, but for me it's just empty and boring. Another example of such cinema is Lang's Scarlet Street, which gets a 3/10 by the way. But coming to think of it, it easily deserves 8/10, since it is exceptionally well done for the genre. |

i think it's not a film meant to contain much "atmosphere" . to me it's something like a story about ambition and resistance. you can't let big corporations kill people. the message and the way roberts performed that character - both were most entertaining. she's not my fav actress but she deserved that oscar for sure. and, oh, it's actually 5/5 but my co-viewer kindly asked me to add her points to my review. ;] |

I just saw The 40 Year Old Virgin: 9/10 It sure is an exceptionally funny film! That's just what I needed to restore my faith in American comedy, now that Arrested Development is sadly off the air. So many running gags and jokes, it was difficult to keep track of them. Romantic comedies were supposed to be unfunny by a rule! I don't want to give out a spoiler here, so I'll just say: What a great way to end a movie... ... Also, I saw Sympathy for Lady Vengeance: 8½/10 Quite a fitting ending to Park Chan-Wook's "revenge trilogy". Not the best of the three (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is), but the film is saturated with so many stunning shots, actors and ideas that to remain psychologically intact after this emotional rollercoaster is an achievement in itself! |

Good stuff, though I'm aware that it actually wasn't that fast. The camera was placed very low and it created an illusion of speed. But it was a piece of pretty dangerous driving nonetheless. And the whole idea, hehe, it should be put to practice more often. Every director with a good car should have a mandatory drive though his city. |

Cuntychuck, just for information, "Partir, Revenir", another Lelouch's movie has a similar sequence at the beginning. I think it's faster, but he drives across rather rural landscapes, so the danger is not so great. The amn sure loves driving. |
