prime - 3/5
green street hooligans - 3/5
elizabeth town - 1/5 - ouch. really bad. orlando bloom
should not put on an american accent.

dog days - 2/5 - it was a bit heavy. my friend and i ended
adopting characters and reading the subtitles out loud. just
to survive some of those characters. dark deep and brooding.
i might have enjoyed it under different circumstances, but
overall i just wished the film to end. so far i've not seen
any german films which i've liked. super generalization: the
french make nice films. i've seen some really good latin
american ones too.

some old movie with peter sellers and a long forgotten
british colony - 3/5
xmen 3- 3/5
the witches - 3/5
the dark - 1/5 - what the fuck happened here?

Never say never (a good VG film). I'm still a fan of the
original MK film, and looking forward to the
awesome sequel
.

I'll never forget Dennis Hopper and the crew in the Mario
film for making my fantasy world crumble into shizoid
techno-industrial dystopia.

This makes me want to revisit some VG adapation classics!:

Mortal Kombat - 4/5
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation - 1/5 (oh boy what went wrong)
Street Fighter: The Movie - 2/5
Doom - 2/5
Tomb Raider - 3/5
Tomb Raider 2 - 2/5
Resident Evil - 3/5 (close to being 4/5)
Resident Evil 2 - 3/5
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - 3/5
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - 5/5!

Am I missing something? Oh... OH...

Wing Commander - 0/5
Super Mario Bros - 0/5
Dungeons & Dragons - 0/5

Alone In The Dark is supposedly disastrous too. Silent Hill
I anticipate enjoying, in fact.

Apparently Paul W.S. Anderson is making a Castlevania film
next. Can't-fucking-wait - for my dreams to die in his
hands.

oh Dog Days? is that the german film with like, a scene
with ugly people fucking and hmm. a guy bouncing a tennis
ball.. and.. hmm.. i think i saw this in the Seattle Film
Festival years ago. It was sooo bad. I wanted to get up
and leave but we we were sitting in the middle of a cramped
theatre, far from the aisle. so i sat it out. so bad.

i quite enjoyed this mostly because of how current the
subject matter is.

is it just me or does Pat Buchanan look eerily like Senator
McCarthy?

war of the worlds - 3/5

great special effects, some bits had great acting, but the
ending was typical hollywood bullshit. theres no way in hell
the son survived. I was positive that the family reunion
would be a dream sequence. if you haven't seen this yet,
dont read the previous sentence, it had spoilers.

in the grass, then camera slowly backs off and we see that
two battle tanks and some troops are all aimed at this tent
is very fun.

Today, some Asian films....

* The Great Yokai War (aka. The Big Spook War) - 10/10

Miike has created a perfect mix of the absurd and the
fantastical; of the child-like and the sinister... Such a
fabulous film. After the mediocre Zebraman (another film
aimed at younger audiences), I'm glad to see Miike in
shape!

* Fudoh: The New Generation - 8½/10

Another violent, funny and sexy film from Miike.

* Waterboys 8½/10
* Swing Girls 7/10

These two films by Shinobu Yaguchi are charming teen
comedies, but Waterboys is definitely the better of the
two.

* Takeshis' 9/10

Takeshi Kitano's latest film is supposedly the last in his
streak of nearly ten yakuza/art pieces. It took me three
viewings to really appreciate the fractal complexity of this
beautiful piece of art, which truly encapsulates everything
he's done, but which is maybe too introverted and
masturbatory for a wider audience.

Everything about that film, The Wicker Man, suggests it was
made by extraterrestrial forces aligned with Christopher Lee
and the crew to deliver an otherworldly experience of love
and beauty. The soundtrack works so well too.

I can definitely wait for it. Who was scrambling for a new
Wicker Man, anyway? The first one holds up like gangbusters.
Hopefully they totally reimagine the material a la Dawn of
the Dead, don't just rehash the story of Howie.

return to paradise- 3/5
*SPOILER*
wow this film started off interesting, then spent way too
much time in new york with the dyke anne heche contacting
and argueing with that vauhn guy about 7 times in the spand
of an hour, but when he finally goes back help his friend
leaf pheonix, at which this scene really got to me.
that scene being when the malay prision guards are draging
leaf from his cel to be hanged, and 5 seconds before he is
about to be hanged vince vauhn is staring from his cell
repeatedly saying to leaf "I AM HERE LEWIS, YOU ARE NOT
ALNONE"-WHILST both friends have their eyes on each other,
then leaf just hangs.

really good movie, the middle is boring and slow, but the
end and start of very very amazing.
4/5 for start
2/5-for middle
5/5 for end
