i <3 huckabees - lol
history of violence - cronenberg
manhattan murder mystery - allen
y'tu mama tambien - ernesto takes a different road trip
8 1/2 - looked like there was a lot going on but i couldn't
read the subtitles as they did not contrast too well with
the white, bright backdrops. lovely to look at even though i
didn't understand it, however, something tells me had i been
able to read the subtitles, or if i was italian, then i
still would not have been able to understand it.

I can't remember the story of 8½, maybe there wasn't one,
maybe it was all a dream, maybe it was all about scenes and
scenery and mise-en-scene...

I loved 8½, although Roma is more laid back.

them incredible.

A History of Violence - 9/10

Cronenberg + Mystery + Drama = Three thumbs up!

Crash - 6/10

Now a word about Crash... Sure it won an Oscar. Sure it's a
clever film on all levels, one that serves as a commentary
on the social realities of USA today. Sure the actors were
top notch. Sure it's a tight, waterproof package.

That's just the problem see. I have invented a new category
of films. See, some films are just so good that they're bad.
Not the other way around. Overstatement can be a drag.

Perhaps had it not won Oscars (3 of them) I would be more
lenient, but I'm making a point here, see.

*minor SPOILERS ahead!*
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
Okay,
1) I felt emotionally manipulated throughout the whole
film.
2) The sub-plots only nominally came together.
3) Sandra Bullock and Brendan Fraser didn't work as a couple
at all. The racist cop-father relationship was another
miss.
4) The excesses of witty dialogue come out ridiculous (or is
that ludacris?), faux, pathetic and superficial.
5) "magical realism" (if that's what this film had a touch
of) doesn't work so well when applied to stereotypical L.A.
characters and their worrisome lives.

Overall I can see why Hollywood would love this film, but
truly some films are too good for their own good...

Tim, the Mel Gibson movie. Didn't really like it, love

must have been almost 50 at the time.

Haha what the hell, Advent Children is just absurdly bad,
one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. It's a
bunch of crowd-pleasers thrown together in a succession of
deus ex machinas. In a way, it's actually quite amazing, and
a good exemple of why videogame makers shouldn't try cinema.

The Quiet Earth, 4/5

By the director of Under Siege 2. But I expected to love
this movie anyway, I loved the ''last guy on earth''
premise. I always think about the perks and horrors of that
situation, so a lot of the concepts in the first half were
really familiar and very stimulating but of course it just
HAD to go downhill a bit. Easy to fuck up a delicate thread
like this. Still a really interesting little sci-fi.

Well, I've just finished watching Advent Children. Some of
the animation was really great, obviously a LOT of work was
put into it. Pity that what came out of it is just another
contender for the most tasteless movie in history.
Dariusgriffin's description of plot is spot on.
I won't rate it because it too much depends on who's
watching. Children of Dragonball will enjoy it.

The day was not wasted though, cause:

United 93 - 4/5

for me this was almost as much as an emotional rollercoaster
as the real event. one of the best things about this movie
is that it recreates the feeling of disbelief probably
anyone had that day. first a plane was hijacked and next a
plane flew into the wtc and initially no-one even considered
those to be the same planes. up until that day it was just
unheard of to use commercial airlines as bombs. great movie.

Taviani Brothers - Padre Padrone - 9/10

Bruno Dumont - Flanders - 6/10 - Sorry, not impressed. The
best adjective would be "stereotypical".

Agnes Varda - Lions Love - 10/10 - You must watch it. This
is the first work of art created by a woman that impressed
me. And how! This is a magnificient movie, please watch it
for your own sake.

Martina Kudlacek - From the Notebook of Marie Menken - 8/10
- A very good documentary, but it felt like the people
interviewed ran out of things to say 2/3 through the movie.

What's to get? It's not the kind of film that tries to
explain it's theory. Much like the butterfly effect, an
interesting thing happens but the writer's are too stupid to
explain it.

yes, it is human. humans make me cringe sometimes,
especially the things they talk about. another reason why
this movie had me moving around is because i'm not a big fan
of ethan hawke. i always feel like i can see through his
acting. this does not mean that i completely condemn the
movie. i remember relating to the actors and have had
similar experiences. but that's where another problem
arises: i hate seeing myself in others. especially lame
shit. this is the first time i've really thought about it (+
i saw the movie almost a year ago - a reason why this
opinion is worth balls). i just felt writing out some pseudo
nonsense as i have nothing better to do right now.

things that you don't. Not Ethan Hawk of course, but seeing
myself in others for instance. This is what my favorite
