Cold Mountain 3/5 interesting as a period piece though i wish it concentrated more on the war itself instead of the predictable and flat love story. Cool to see Jack White in a movie. Visually, mostly stunning but yeah, bit predictable.
elephant 4/5 an unexpectedly great directorial work by G VanSant. I like the subtleness, the realistic representation of High-School life. I like how he introduces characters who seem like they might be the killers but turn out not to be. shows our tendency to generalize about "types" of kids and the groups they must fall into. also appreciated the lack of melodrama, something i'm sure most hollywood directors would tend to include.
also it was excellent casting, to use unknowns as characters, instead of casting a bunch of teen stars off of the WB's Dawson's Creek or something. added to realism.

Farenheit 9/11- 0/5
like this one dude put it
"To describe this film as dishonest and demagogic would almost be to promote those terms to the level of respectability. To describe this film as a piece of crap would be to run the risk of a discourse that would never again rise above the excremental. To describe it as an exercise in facile crowd-pleasing would be too obvious. Fahrenheit 9/11 is a sinister exercise in moral frivolity, crudely disguised as an exercise in seriousness. It is also a spectacle of abject political cowardice masking itself as a demonstration of "dissenting" bravery."

the rock- meh, entertaining enough liar liar- jim carey can be funnier/lunier than this (ace ventura 1).
dick tracy- yuk, boring mostly what about bob?- pretty great star wars 1 phantom menace- special effects only, all else sucks
waterboy- humorous, entertaining running man- pretty great robocop- ed209 is awesome. As a whole it was more boring than I remember, but still cool.
dumb&dumber- humorous, entertaining +1 spaceballs- humorous, entertaining +1 red heat- blarg, it's ok I guess. well, it's fairly good. Yeah, I actually like it.
braveheart- a favorite the edge- a favorite but have seen to many times good will hunting- a favorite clerks- an obscure film I'm pretty sure. It's funny and simple with lots of funny "witty" talking mostly.
goodfellas- blarg, seems pretty old.. not that violent... it's a pretty boring narrative and long.
lost and found- david spade. It's a dud of a comedy mostly. It's an excuse for david to work with a pretty girl rather than produce a funny movie.
levity- yuk, could only watch 1/4. boring. breakdown- pretty great dances w/ wolves- a favorite, though probably lengthy to rewatch.
die hard- pretty great. silence of the lambs- not as good or scary as I remember but still great. seven is better
seven- a favorite. twisted killer. austin powers 1- humorous, entertaining +1 happy gilmore- humorous, entertaining + 0 dark crystal- a definate favorite princess mononoke- a definate favorite total recall- pretty great, entertaining labyrinth- a definate favorite tommy boy- meh, could be funnier terminator 2- a definate favorite ninja turtles 2- the best turtles movie imo, good enemy costumes/makeup
forrest gump- legthy but great neverending story- definate favorite
