Italy and Mexico draw with both teams going through to the
playoffs.

its incredible...now its very possible that italy meets
spain (or ireland) in the 1/4 finals... I would have
prefered Italy being first of its group, in order to meet
them in the semifinals (in the case spain got there) but now
its probable to meet them before...
back in 1994 they won us in 1/4 finals...

Del Pierooo!!! My idol scored... I'm very happy... but I
don't like Italy that draw today, they played not good, imo.
Anyway the lineman denied a regular goal of Inzaghi in the
first half... it's a shame, we lost 3 regular goals in 2
match.

least they did give you the one by del piero (he should

first...but...

nacmat> I would be equally worried by Mexico.

They are a revelation and played the better football for 70
minutes of the game.

Italy deserve second place, but not more. I have a feeling
that Mexico may enjoy the hot humid conditions because they
play in Mexico with thin air (high altitude) and excessive
heat. They play a good passing game too. Also if a game went
to penalties, is there a team you would RATHER be playing
against than Italy ?? :)

this is the thread were football fans like to talk about the
world cup, the teams, the players, the results and even some
football history... here we are always the same ones:
woofer, tolstoyed, smokehammer, me and some other
appearances such as netlon sentinel...

we dont want to post here just for the number of posts, we
just enjoy the thread, and well we are at the middle of the
world cup, so this will probably reach 1000 but who cares if
it does or not... just post here whenever you have something
to say about football, its funny.

besides as this is an aphex site, I think its better to have
one big thread about football rather than lots of different
football threads...though this happens anyway everytime
sweden or england play, but it would happen more often if
this thread didnt exist... so now anytime anybody wants to
say something about football, he knows that posting here he
will get an answer

Robbie Keane was pretty pissed about having to do his drug
test straight after the Saudi game.I know you have to if ur
selected, but for christ's sake surely they could pick a
better time to take a urine sample than directly after a
match.Apparently he had to drink 8 bottles of water to
rehydrate enough to provide a sample!

this is for woofer:

(end of an article of fifaworldcup.com, talking about the
match between mexico and italy):

it had to be Alessandro Del Piero who would rise head and
shoulders above his colleagues to score the Italy’s
equaliser and relax tifosi hearts who had been screaming for
his providential presence from thousands of miles away.

each time I read it I imagine woofer in milano screaming
happily: ggooooaaaalll!!

well the 4th was offside, imo (not that it matters)

brazil looked good today, except for defence. they are
'growing into the tournament'

mexico had some great moves, i consider them outsiders for
the title, after today's match

you know what... costa rica lost 5-2 but they made a
beautiful match... lots of oportunities... brazil is better
no doubt, but in an individual way, not as a team.

so far the teams that impressed me the most were:

mexico: they touch and touch, very patiently
costa rica: beautiful triangles and very offensive game, sad
they are out
brazil: the best man by man, with ronaldo flying again
denmark: very solid game

30 minutes later game( jp vs tunisia) starts .
now i very worry about this game.
in this world cup incredible thing was happened ( everyone

no one says that team with good skill and power always win.
To winnig , one of the most important
is luck. i suppose so.
i hope God give our team luck.

Sorry but I'm not agree about Italy's lucky, for the
followings reasons:

**********************************

Spain 1982: Italy won the world cup with the followings
result:
ITALY-ARGENTINA (Maradona & co.) 2-1
ITALY-BRASIL (Zico, Falcao & co.) 3-2 (with a regular goal
of Antognoni denied)
FINAL: ITALY-GERMANY (of Rumenigge) 3-1 (with an error of
Cabrini on penalty)

I think in 1982 we deserved world cup without luck.

**********************************

Mexico 1986: Italy played a awful word cup and back home
early against France (2-0)

**********************************

Italy 1990

We were really a strong team with Baggio, Vialli,
Schillaci... We lost against Argentina only after f**ckin'
penalties. I can't forget the lucky goal of Caniggia for an
error of our goalkeeper ZENGA.
Everyone said that Italy didn't deserve to lose that match.
We had unlucky.

**********************************

USA 1994
Probably the only year where we had lucky. We reached the
final against BRASIL and we lost the world cup only after
the f**ckin penalties. Anyway I admit that we didn't deserve
world cup in 1994.

**********************************

France 1998

Another year where we were really a strong team, we lost
against France only after f**ckin' penalties... I don't
think we deserved to lose that match, anyway...
(No luck in 1998)

**********************************

Belgium/Holland 2000 (Europe's cup)

In the grandfinal we lost against FRANCE for a golden goal
of Trezeguet after a great match of Italy. Anyway, when you
lose for a golden goal you can't say to have much lucky,
imo.

**********************************

Korea/Japan 2002
Three regulars goals denied from the linesmen. The 4th was
offside, I agree with NETLON.

**********************************
...so we lost 3 important match of world cup only after
penalties and one europe's cup after golden goal.
I wouldn't think that Italy has so much lucky.

Anyway one thing is clear to everyone... we should learn t

this year penalties may work out for you-roberto baggio is
not in the team(he was my favourite player before del piero
btw)
also i remember what a penalty totti scored-very easy shot
right in the middle of the goal
so if it comes to shooting penalties im sure that your team
was preparing for that
hehe

japan - tunisia

2-0

go japan go!!!
well done

belgium - russia
2-1

well I thought russia could do it

lets see how it ends

finally

japan won 2-0

belgium won 3-2

so japan will play turkey
and belgium against brazil

now
korea - portugal
usa - poland

the last two teams that will join to the other 14:

denmark
senegal
germany
ireland
sweden
england
spain
paraguay
brazil
turkey
mexico
italy
japan
belgium

9 from europe
3 from america
1 from asia
1 from africa

why do I say this.... well, with only two teams left (two
out of three: portugal, korea, usa) there is a clear
advantage of europeans (which is normal, cos about 15
started the cup, there were more europeans than from any
other continent at the begining, dont know why) in order to
get the world cup... so far since the world cup history
started in uruguay (1930, I think) urruguay has won 2 times,
italy 3 times, brazil 4 times, germany 3 times, argentina 2
times, france 1 time, england 1 time.

so, out of 16 cups:
europe: 8 for europe
america: 8 for america

this time the draw will be broken...by which side?
even though there are fewer american teams...its very
probable that Brazil gets to the final.

article from the bbc.co.uk

irish coach:

the Irish manager was even more annoyed by what he believed
was the lack of respect his team were receiving from some
quarters.

He clearly believes that having originally qualified from a
group which included Portugal and Holland, his team deserves
to be taken seriously.

And more especially so when some pundits predicted they
could not survive against Cameroon and Germany without Roy
Keane.

"If I had to rely on people in here for confidence we would
be knackered," McCarthy told reporters.

"I have sensed that all along."

The star names in Spain's squad roll off the tongue, but the
Irish team boss fired a warning to those believing Ireland's
downfall to be inevitable.

Robbie Keane didn't train on Thursday

"There is a difference between a good football team and a
team of well-known world stars," he said.

"We respect Spain as a good side, but we are not scared of
anybody. I do not like the word fear.

"Anybody who suggests we cannot beat Spain must be crazy.

"Our results and performances have been just too good for
that.

"It is complete nonsense if anybody thinks that.

"I have seen it too often against Irish teams, very
confident sides going away with a bit of a spanking."

I TOTALLY AGREE!!

I really want to say that I have the highest respect towards
the irish team... I ve said it before and I say it again,
anyone could pass to the next round... at this stage nobody
is favorite...not for me.
