the reason genres are objective is because the song is still the same no matter who hears it. humans are taught to associate certain sounds and styles with certain words. the frequency content of the song is thus interpreted in a similar way by the listener. however, the value, emotion and meaning of a song does not translate to the objective frequencies. the value and meaning is interpreted only in the brain, and since all humans and brains are equal, no person is more right or less right than any other. and also, even if they were, its everyones godgiven fundamental right to be able to like whatever they want. when i hear people say they dont like abstract music, saying its not music cause it doesnt have melody etc, i know that i feel different, and that its them who dont have the experience necessary to enjoy that music. we all take different paths in life and our brains ends up differently, but that doesnt mean abstract music has any kind of lesser value than melodic. |

This leak made me do several things: - Immediately go to bleep and preorder the actual release. - Seriously consider upgrading my operating system and my license to max/msp 5 - Anxiously await any recording / news of their upcoming tour, what it sounds like, etc Fuck, 2010 is turning out to be one of the best years in a long time. |

I dont know what track it is... but I love how at about 50minutes in, its like the most predictable cheese dick arpeggiated melody and basic rhythm, then they totall butt fuck it with all this awesome noise distortion random wankery so that you have nothing to grab ahold of. |

I'm sorry to hear that sadist. Forgive me... as I want to avoid any subjectivity conversation once again and at any cost, but I just don't understand why people cant get behind this. It seems that any argument towards not appreciating this album contradicts why people fell in love with Autechre to begin with. They're doing whatever the fuck they want to. Given their entire catalog, this album makes total sense to me. I'm not an early day proponent blowing Amber-era Autechre... Rather, I am in love with everything between Lp5 and Draft, and I despise Quaristice. Somehow this album just resonates with me on such a uniquely fucked up level that I havent felt since Confield first came out. Could it have a smidge more of beat fuckery? Yes. Do I suspect we'll see that sometime this year? Absolutely. Look at it this way... perhaps this is the calm before the storm. |

Remember folks, you're listening to a piecemeal iTunes chew up and spit out transcode with default crossfading. If you dont think that will make or break your experience, I can only point out how much the 256kbps soundboard recording of the 2005 Glasgow set offered compared to its 128kbps predecessor, which we had to live with for an entire year prior. So much more will open up with the proper wav files. |

I believe I said something to this effect when Draft, Untilted and Quaristice came out but here goes: It's benefited my enjoyment of ae to not compare their last few albums with their previous work. Confield and Gantz Graf were as deep and alien as they could go, the peak of their career, the peak of all this “IDM.” Everything released since then (including Draft imo) has been more jam-driven. They're having fun now. They're just making cool tunes and sharing them with us. The “statement” the albums seem to be making is less profound, and I don't know that there's any really new territory to cover--- but I'm just glad that they're letting us hear their new jams. |

I turned it off three quarters of the way though the first time, although I had enjoyed the first half. Some of this reminds me of the Chimes package I had for Windows 95 by Syntrillium. So I can understand the fears regarding some of the melodies. The melodies that you didn't notice, perhaps because they are suburb (you have a tendency to only notice the bad at first), are the ones you need to focus on. For me, the first half of this is enough for me to warrant buying the album alone. I am very pleased I pre-ordered the ultra-high quality digital release. I can't wait to listen to that on my system. Someone said that the fake was better? You must be deaf. The fake was deeply, deeply, SHITE! The absolute worst... This album is great. I love it. I can't wait to get the legit one. Anyone who hasn't listened to the leak yet, wait, you will not be disappointed in the long run although perhaps the first listen will shock you. This is total sweetness, you need to hear it in the best quality at the right time though. |

I love this and I do believe that it's real and I can't see how anyone with an interest in Autechre could dismiss it as a bad album. It's celestial and almost spiritual without being some kind of cheesy new age thing that I think someone suggested earlier. Just the fact that I KNOW this is real, after several fakes that I instantly KNEW was fakes, says a lot about the qualities of the arts and crafts that make up the phenomenon we all know as Autechre. And another thing: This album makes me think of one particular track that has gone strangely unmentioned through this thread: VLetrmx. I have felt the same kind of goose bumps, over and over agin, listening to this leak as I used to - and still do - get when I hear the mighty, religious VLetrmx. I wish I could feed all the digital data from the oversteps album into a massive, modern church organ and play it back in some mighty chatedral. What's his name again? Johan Sebastian Booth? No, sorry... Johan Sebastian Brown... Seriously, I LOVE THIS ALBUM :) |
