I wasn't that crazy about Autechre's previous release
"Quaristice". Being a big fan, i was wondering which
direction they would take next, as they are so
unpredictable.

I think "Oversteps" might be their masterpiece up to now.
Absolutely brilliant album,... I cannot stop listening too
it. Every song is fabulous!
I have a couple of favorite, but im still discovering and
cherishing its newness.

i too think it might be my fav of theirs, and maybe this
will also be the general consensus.

Listening to their past efforts right now, makes them appear
a bit overly pointy and edgy, very forcedly complex and
stubborn, blah,

quaristice is great, in 10 years you guys will appreciate it
;)

Quaristice is really good yeah, but it's not for every day &
moods. Im not as crazy about it as i am about Oversteps.

i just slept through oversteps, or at least really relaxed,
and it was perfect.
with ae i guess i had some expectations that they would do
percussive progressive pieces and this clouded my judgment
of oversteps...

some of the pieces develop extremely lovely, like os veix 3
with the weird string like melody later on.
its a new way of listening to ae i guess. wonderful.

I was pretty unsure of the authenticity of this release, but
now i have the real promo cd from warp, and it's the same as
everyone is listening to. Just slighly different track
lengths than what i've seen on the rips on soulseek.

I'm a bit confused about it, not exactly dissapointed but i
have to listen to it more. Autechre's albums always break
new grounds for me and this time i'm wondering, what's the
novelty here? What's the challenge for me, and what was the
challenge for them? Why is this the release after Quarastice
and not the one before?

I know a lot of people on this board wont agree on this, and
say 'who cares, it's nice music' and i totally see that too,
but still i can't help feeling a bit empty when listening to
it. I'm very curious on what i will think about it in 3
months..

@Gonzola - how's the quality compared to the soulseek rips?
We're thinking slsk version are not only shorter, but
transcoded and clipping. Can you confirm?

Ok, here are the track lengths from the promo cd which are
slightly different from the rips i've seen:

R Ess 5:12
Ilanders 5:32
Known(1) 4:42
Pt2ph8 4:09
Qplay 4:38
See On See 4:37
Treale 6:05
Os Veix3 4:37
0=0 4:52
D-Sho Qub 6:26
St Epreo 4:08
Redfall 3:48
krYlon 6:08
Yuop 6:21

I haven't listened to the whole cd yet but i don't expect
any new tracks to pop out:)

cool. these make perfect sense with the crossfades between
the leaky tracks, and then there's 30 seconds missing from
both r ess and yuop.

I'll check if there's any difference in sound quality when i
get home from work. My boss doesn't like autechre

havent listened to this yet, but if its not cutting edge
anymore, then what hope do we have?

that "no cutting edge autechre" can still be gewd. i prefer
the term "less cutting edge autechre", btw. they're still
years ahead of the pack.

So is there a difference?

Listened through about half of the tracks and compared it to
the rip and there's not much difference to talk about except
the obvious ones. Like that the final track has a slightly
longer ending and Ilanders plays once. No dramatic change in
sound quality that i noticed.

they're still one of the heavy weights when it comes to
electronic music, i've been buying their music since 1998,
since then i've never been disapointed with any release.
This is the first time i feel slightly less interested, i
have to be honest .

I like some parts of the album, but it's either not banging
enough or not ambient enough, know what i mean?

But It's obvious they'l still be writing more hard stuff in
the future, i'm waiting to hear a really cool d&b glitch
album from them like the untilted tour, if they wanted to
make a change and produce something different, they could of
treated us with a mastered version of a live
untilted/quaristice jam, or something similar

if they ever read this, i just want to say i am still one of
your loyal listeners, i just need something heavier to treat
my madness.

I hope this isn't the proper one, cos it's shit, but I think
it probably is the original cos it's shit.

Autechre don't got it goin' on no more.
