Is it possible that Autechre making money from cheap amateur music? For example how to distinguish art from amateur art? Sometimes people pay millions for paintings which looks scribble, just because those paintings are famous. |

I like this post. What the fuck is all this shit about Autechre not making good melodies?? Seriously??? Sit the fuck down!! They made "Bike", then they made "Eggshell", then they made "444". Then they made "Flutter", which is a beautifully melodic piece: work out an interpretation of "Flutter" on the piano and you will see how masterful their melodic work can be. Pay attention to the changes that happen. Fuck, "Nine", "Yulquen" and "Piezo". That was a long time ago. Now they do a new kind of sound. Sit down and listen to it!!!! Someone said that Oversteps was like Altibzz the album -- I'd said it's more like "Simmm" the album. |

Thats a problem we cant be completely subjective because as soon you see world only through subjective prism and automatically reject objective reality you are nihilist. But I don't find this is the case with Autechre. They've been into generative composition for a while now, just didn't use it on their last few releases. All that boils down to is maths, and AFAIK, they use equations from science within their patches to control events. I saw something about them using fluidity equations in a few Max patches. |

okay, but they don't release academic papers on how and what they did. all they communicate is purely esoteric: "we're doing crazy ass computors stuff, in the fucking dark dude!". In fact, it's hard to distinguish where they push random buttons and are having a laugh or when they work two months on a really fancy neural network-based AI drum machine (which i doubt they do at all). also in a quaristice interview Sean Booth stated something along the lines, where if one tries to analyze their music for production techniques, they miss the point… i believe their music is best listened to with the fresh, unspoiled mind of a child. imagine you don't know shit about fm synthesis and convolution reverb. Much like you would take in a painting that is just playing with the fact that it uses 'red' on a 'canvas' etc... |

dunno… isn't 'objective' simply a social agreement thing? if three people say 'up' is 'up' and point downwards, and the fourth guy points upwards he might get beaten up and raped… so then it all becomes some sort of a pop jury thing, where an elite defines the objective 'right' and everyone has to follow… this might be good for survival etc… in arts i'd say we are all judging things too eagerly, and mostly towards the negative. If we see something new, we tend to dismiss it when it doesn't seem to have a meaning for us, we think we don't understand it, even if there is nothing to understand. we're in fact conditioned by society towards ratio (Apollonian) and try to even rationalize the pleasures and the arts (part of the Dionysian)… but atually i don't know maybe i'm misunderstanding shit completely. i'm on a wank streak sorry. so yeah, jpg on a scanner for creating music sounds like fun. if you're good at it art might emerge :D |

I believe art isnt objective and isnt subjective. Each individual understands art as subjective thing, but art exist between us as objective thing, problem we cant define art because as soon as we define art this is no longer art. For example we can define Electronic music, Rock, Rap and so on. This means that music as art have objectivity. |

i haven't heard this album yet, but i have rarely thought of autechre as being lush since tri rep era. it may be good, like really good, but generally it is more toward the spare rather than lush side of the scale, even if dense. |
