Jesus..... I just read ALL the posts.... clicked ALL the
links.... including those that don't work.... and MY GOD....
you are some motivated MOFO's.... PLS don't abandon this
project..... all good things come in time ! I doubt you all
need any more help, but as an Aphex fanatic... I can help
with plot progression, or any other non-technical job.... as
I am surprised I can even turn this computer on.... as for
new ideas..... how about in one of the worlds.... everything
becomes all jumbled.... or numbers.... like bboyncord or
anything off AB3.... REALLY like the Mars secret level
idea.... that's classic :) for a new weapon how about the
range weapon sandpaper records, and ya automatically start
out with 200 of em...u-ziq and rich have to be "expert knob
twiddlers" SOMEWHERE in the dialogue.... as well as
Squarepusher is a resonable person.... maybe add a little of
the "disco assault system" or mybe one o the spells is that
richard can make a double of himself that looks somewhat
like my avatar :) (which is richard D. James's image from
the Windowlicker CD's spectro)... the curing a weakling
child was a GREAT idea :).... with the evil computer.... you
should have Richard re-wire it somehow, to kill it, or make
it a friendly.... posily by writing a new Inkey$ for it... I
was about to say something about R2D2, but fuk that.... like
the pigeon street idea :) nice and subtle... and
RHUBEARS..... 100's of RHUBEARS.... LOL with monkey wrenches
! maybe a scene where Rich watches some swans and listens to
birds singing..... a Guest appearance by Chris Cunningham
would be Dokken... these are just some ideas.... if you need
my hel at all MAIL ME I check my mail all the time.... have
no job ATM..... less of a life.... and I need to fill m
time

PeaceLove

i think at one point it should just cut to a black screen
with white text that says "scene missing" then they should
be on the moon.

rdj: well that was quite the little adventure.
u-ziq: you think the watermelons will be ok?
sqpshr: i never did get to use their bathroom.

well, looks like i'm out of this if work doesn't commence
REAL soon.

i got a HUGE website to design, that's gonna take MONTHS of
me not working on much else (even music [sucks]). anyway,
maybe someone else can pick this thing up... maybe not... no
reason this thing isn't getting worked on, or that the
people in charge aren't posting on the issue.

it's a shame.

offline TonyFish from the realm of our dreams on 2003-09-17 17:48 [#00867834]
Points: 3349 Status: Lurker

The game starts with Richard asleep in bed. Richard is
dreaming, or to be more precise, lucid-dreaming. The entire
RPG happens within this dream. Richard has the ability to
modify his dream to a certain extent by performing special
interaction with objects and making other items appear etc..
This ability will gradually be developped of the course of
the game as a consequence of Richard's leveling up.

The idea: All of the artists from the independent labels
rephlex and planet mu have turned evil and have joined a
corporate whorehouse like EMI that wants to enslave humanity
and take over the world! Richard must rescue his remaining
allies from the EMI seige and deliver us all from the
clutches of the evil megacorp.

Locations:
Elephant and Castle, The Underground (Quoth), Ministry of
Sound,...
Planet Mu
The internet:Xltronic,P2P networks (for transport)
...

One could combine dream-like unreal locations (planet mu)
with the grey reality of london or the vast electric
landscape of the internet. After all it's a dream so
location wise you could do anything really.

Allies:
Nannou
Mike P
[]<
Venetian Snares
Phobiazero :)
Pierre Bastien
...

I'm not too sure about the rest. I kinda liked the idea of
using music themes as locations.
We could have the aphex tank in it too!

Just my 2¤s!

if it's going to be anything like the zelda for the snes
then I suggest that you check this guys site, out.
He's recreating the zelda ocarina game into 2d snes style.
It may give you guys some ideas... good luck with it all

we need to steal ideas from silent hill because it's the
thing to do. there should be the normal world with certain
characters and rdj should keep going insane and travelling
into the alternate world with idm characters.

Well ,I must say that demo is excellent. I nearly fell off
my chair laughing when the caped skeleton appears and goes
"Riiiichard, do you not recognise me, it is I......DEREK"
and then Richard goes "woah, shut up you cunt'
Also great use of little touches like when Richard says
"lets take a peek" and then the sound from Peek 824545201
plays. Excellent. I hope if it goes ahead it manages to keep
this humour etc.

my point is that in a lucid game we can have wierd demented
urban spaces that blend into total far out locations.

well I happen to be a MSc in virtual environments with a
passion for game development. I was thinking of a zelda meet
ff7 like interface with a lot of interactivity with random
characters and objects. I'm currently working on a scripting
engine (which every good RPG needs) and then I'll convert my
core engine from a fps structure to something more rpg
friendly. I WILL DO THIS! but it may take quite some time.
I'll keep you posted.

I thought the whole thing could start of in Elephant &
Castle and then the underground which could be the Quoth lvl
(cd art) and then gradually london can become more
dream-like as we progress...

Squarepusher's spell list

Boneville Occident - death to one target
Cost: 25 MP

Mutilation Colony - non - elemental special
Cost: 35 EP (there are TWO types of spell points in your,
aren't there ?)

Yay, I'm addicted !

Go Plastic ! - creates physical damage barrier around
target. Can be cast upon multiple targets, at the cost of
effectiveness.

Cost: 25 MP

I think that Boneville Occident should be 60 MP now.

heh, nice.
i had similar takes on those songs for spells...

how about:

Vic/Sarc/Gong Acid - different stages of
Poison/Confusion/Silence-type status inflicting spells.

Cost: 15/20/25 MP

Kill Robok - instantly destroys any non-human
organism/creation.

Cost: 88 MP

ohhhh.....
and I forgot Audax Powder in the [Item] section. I think it
should have something to do with speeding up the allies
and/or slowing down opponents, or something.

Hate to be a joykill, but GOD DAMN this is corny. We might
as well make the final boss the embodiment of IDM.

That might be the point, to some.

This whole game, aesthetically speaking, has a perfect grasp
of 16 - bit era graphics, super - deformed characters
(inflated heads never made SO MUCH SENSE) and a modern,
psychologically angled take on the classic, 'old - school'
quest journey.

I'm running a mid - 90's Celeron, roughly on performance
