I've started a new musical project, it's called Grinning
Ape, and this is its first fruit. I've called it "Theme from
Grinning Ape" as it sets out a sonic manifesto I hope to
adhere to in all future Grinning Ape endeavours. Feedback
has already been good, with XLT's very own Staz crying out
"a merry tune". This thread will be my very own
record label with ALL releases from the mighty Grinning Ape
being made available exclusively here.

Theme from Grinning Ape - performed by Grinning Ape

Grinning Ape - FAQ

Yes, it's meant to sound like that.

The accolades continue to pour in!!! I used dear old Fruity,
which I swear by.

I've done another, this is Mind over Shatner, as performed by
Grinning Ape.

I also listened to the Don't Get Left Behind foursome - I
liked the tracks but why are they so short?

Also, do you have a Spanish / Spanish Speaking Country
connexion?

Well fuck me sideways, Theme from Grinning Ape sounds
like exactly that, a big fat chimp picking his nose and
banging a hollowed-out tree, possibly with a child's leg.
And having a lot of fun. It like it, dirty and throbbing and
a bit cheeky.

Mind Over Shatner depicts vidid imagery of slow motion
jesters on acid.

If only it were ten times longer. Please make it longer, pa!
Oh please make it longer!

I used the BOClite vst, a freeware bit of kit that just
plays random slightly detuned notes.

Grinning Ape - FAQ (contd)

Short tracks, like short films and novels, are better than
long ones, unless the long one is very good and worth being
long.

My cod-spanish I employed as I live in South America, it's
just my little attempt to integrate a bit further.

some ambient tracks could go on forever. so we'd just have
to press 'stop' or 'next' when we the thirst is quenched.

Monkeys aren't cool anymore, niether are gorillaz, bathing
ape, ben davis, monkey tennis, drunkn monkey, monkey magic
or any other hilarious (ex) student antics invloving the
word monkey.

Tune was alright, could have used more vocals, and that drum
solo was a bit gratuatous.

Ok, I think I've invented Post-House, this track's entitled
Judith Chalmers, after the freeloading, orange faced TV
presenter.

Judith Chalmers.

I also put set about R4-D4, a tribute to the also
ran of the astromech droid series.

And Run Ahead, a pop song.

I found these...interesting. But not particuarly pleasant.

I will abuse them for you. And don't worry, there won't be
any "clever" wonky beat work a la Trip.

I'd like it if you fashioned my scratchy, frayed, filthy
sketches into full blown magnus opus Magnus Magnusson
light-synth epics that would conjour images of Vangelis and
Jean Michel Jarre having a fight in a luxury hotel's lift.

Stalag 17 could be off the Caustic Window LP.

Run Ahead sounds a bit like a Polygon Window track in
places.

Mind over shatner is good. Boclite VST is the bomb, I hear
boc have used it on the new album.

I didn't like Judith Chalmers, but the rest of the other
tracks were okay too.
