Mr. Ape, you have email and approx 12 hours to make
those files available, or else they will become
dated. :(

I got lucky today. When I was at the shop, the girl behind
the register slipped an old, worn tape in my shopping bag. I
realized that it was more unreleased Grinning Ape, just
aching to be presented to the loyal fanboys of XLT. How did
she know we wanted more Grinning Ape? I don't know. Was
there ANY logic behind her slipping some obscure tape into
my shopping bag? Not really. But the Grinning Ape is at it
again, and you cannot stop it from excerting its trampling
force.

With any luck, people will be so entranced by them that
they'll be unable to bring themselves to leave the house to
engage in "harmless halloween fun" such as keying cars and
putting fireworks through their neighbour's letterboxes, in
exchange for money and confectionary. If just one old person
is spared the sight of a gang of teenagers practicing
amateur satanism in a churchyard, the great ape's efforts
will have not been in vane.

I love the patches, but I'm trying to make a track with only
them and there's no "normal" bass-patches, so I guess I'll
have to use some other synth too

Don't worry old boy, one needn't employ solely the Grinning
JC Halloween Patches of EVIL - go with what you feel.

Ok, here's what I've done with them this far,
nothing serious yet, just mucking about really :)

I'll probably use them more and contribute some more GA
material later on though, props for the quality patches
Ceri.

Yes, apologies for that... there are a few bassy ones, but
as you say, they're hardly normal. This can largely be
attributed to the fact that many of the patches were not
done in my normal studio area, but instead at a desk in a
hotel, on my laptop and the headphones are not exactly
bass-friendly, so I focused on sounds they could recreate.
It is true that I could have used the internal speakers, but
aside from them not exactly being 8K subs themselves, I
could not bring myself to subject the other guests to the
sheer sonic terror that is the Grinning JC Halloween
Patches of EVIL
.

As dog_belch says, they are intended as another tool in the
grinning ape arsenal, rather than an ends to themselves, but
your track using them is very good. It's almost like someone
did modern style plaid-like melodic IDM, but on old early
90s gear.

No reason to apologize though, you're the one offering the
fruits of your labor, for free. And I much appreciate it :)

Glad you like them. Not wishing to blow my own trumpet, but
it's amazing how long it took to make the bank, I had
thought it'd be a couple of hours, but due to the
comparative complexity of polyiblit (and the amount of
"ironing out" of undesirable sounds needed), it took a lot
longer than for most synths.

Yes, I can imagine. I think of the time it takes for me to
make just one patch that I'm happy with and imagine doing it
50 or so times over again :D

I'm glad you check out the site, they do look back at some
really interesting stuff, as well as newer things. I advide
ALL AND SUNDRY to have a listen to that Jeff Mills "The
Hacker" track that's about three posts down from the Ape
entry ... SO GOOD!

kidding. I think it's good. Merry Christmas, Dog Belch, you

Bless you, compliments of the season to you and yours as
well.

Fun Fact: The track title was inspired by a track of
yours that was good but seemed, via some sonic alchemy, to
lack any bass whatsoever.
