That WILL be sad. You should just not buy insurance, and if
you get caught, maybe you'll get lucky and the judge will be
a Nintendo fanboy. They're everywhere now.

FF7 Crisis Core has been really interesting. Aesthetics- it
lacks the thick atmosphere of FF7, with the meticulous
rendered steampunk/sci-fi/fantasy whatever details... and
because of the battles being in real time, many interiors
that accommodate them seem way too big and empty, it never
feels right. Beautiful outdoor moods though, and great
music.

The gameplay is eclectic in a bad way, absurdly
hit-and-miss. And the script is annoying, the story usually
indecipherable, the pacing and storytelling awkward, the
characters one-dimensional... I don't care though, I guess
the naivety of it is a big part of the charm, because I got
into the story.

The ways this game ties into FF7, which was a huge part of
my 14th year so I'm probably biased, are really well-done
and touching if you played and liked that game. Some blatant
fanservice, but also a lot of smart new insights, often into
little details that were probably a total afterthought in
1997. But you'd probably remember them anyway because FF7's
details were many and memorable. What could have been a
soulless spinoff like Advent or Dirge, is totally not. In
fact I need to play FF7 again, for the insane nostalgia and
the smart new context.

huzzah! I shant have to sell my wii and things. I just did
the dreaded asking for my dad to 'spot me' until i get paid.
seeing as to how i've paid to live at home for the past 5
years, i guess it was warranted, but it was one of the last
things i'd want to do.

i can't see more than a handful of wii games being keepers
until i get a ps3 once the price drops, but i didn't want to
part with the wii since not only does it play wii games, but
gamecube and all the downloadable games which i have quite a
few.

Been playing Smash Brothers on Wii. Fun game even though I'm
not very good at it. Also Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is a
blast. Such a time suck.

Annnnd I'm eagerly awaiting the Metal Gear Online Beta to go
live in about an hour and a half. Can't wait!

been playing Guitar Hero 3 a lot.

Two observations:

Firstly, comboing rapid note sections has been made a lot
easier and more forgiving, which makes the old hammer-on and
pull-off techniques of the earlier Guitar Hero games pretty
unnecessary here. This is not necessarily a good thing. It
feels like a cop out when some solos have been made easier
artificially. And to think soloing used to be the pinnacle
of challenge in earlier games. Even on Expert it's much
easier this time around (although I've only played the first
14 tracks on expert).

Secondly, the boss sections are not that great IMO. I mean
there's only 3 of them (I think), and they're very short and
forgettable. They're sort of fun but they don't pose the
same kind of perfectionist challenge that the rest of the
tracks do. All you have to do is to be fast and tactical
with your dispensation of power-ups in order to kill the
other dude.

Overall, the song selection is pretty solid and the gameplay
feels as intuitive as ever. The few improvements it
introduces (as mentioned above) don't necessarily make the
game any better, but it's a good entry in the series, even
without Harmonix.

just finished Super Metroid the other day (like a week ago)
and i'm still playing through Mass Effect (haven't played
alot this week due to studying)... i reckon when i'm done
with Mass Effect i'll bother to finish the final boss in
Minish Cap and then start playing Metroid Fusion...

I think Metroid Fusion might be my favourite Metroid game,
is that insane?

Advance Wars: Dual Strike on the DS, very very fun.

Also playing Phoenix Wright 2, nowhere as fun as the first
game but still pretty engaging.

Maybe not so crazy, we all need someone to hold our hand,
sometimes.

Coming off GTA4, I decided to pick Bully up for PS2 used, I
never got around to that game. 5 bucks well spent, it's like
Shenmue except really really fun, and what a wonderful
soundtrack. I miss school.

Any thoughts on Mortal Kombat vs DC universe?

My buddies and I were hard into the series from like 2-4.
When the fighting mechanic changed and games like soul
caliber came along we kinda moved on. Although, I did get
Armageddon and was pretty into the character design
feature.

With this one they are redoing the fighting system again,
and hopefully making it more intuitive like the classic
system was. I also loved the marvel vs capcom games, so if
this is anything like that I bet it'll be great.

Plus you know everyone is gonna be all hyped for this after
seeing The Dark Knight.

yea, it's kinda cool, although I've heard they're going to
go for the teenage audience (I mean OFFICIALLY this time) so
there won't be that much blood and gore this time around,
perhaps? But I want to decapitate Batman!!

I love Super Metroid, but I've never been a huge fan of the
whole exploration thing. It's nice but after a while I'd
just like to know where I should be going next. Getting
stuck and doing aimless backtracking is no fun, I just like
to jump and shoot at things.

You still had to figure out how to get to some points in
Metroid Fusion, and at least you knew you weren't totally
off track.

Diff'rent strokes, it seems to me Metroid without
needle-in-a-haystack exploration is like Contra without
balls-to-the-wall action... but I still liked the game
alright, especially the soundtrack. Decent experiment in
fusing linear narrative with the Metroid mechanics.

What am I playing now... beat Bully which I have to say is
one of the best games I've ever played, now replaying Thief
Deadly Shadows and ruminating on how amazing the rumored
Thief 4 could be if it took Assassin's Creed's engine and
injected it with the flawless Thief level design and
narrative. Just gonna replay some stealth games in
anticipation of MGS4.

I've been hacking super metroid for 8 months now. I hope by
summer to complete the hack. Super Metroid: Cliffhanger.
Focuses on wall jumping, insane amounts of challenge,
aesthetic detail, and storyline.

Looks cool, let me know when it's done. I will play it until
I get to first intensive wall-jumping section, at which
point I will fail to make it up, and quit, unless you've
tweaked the timing or something.

Yeah I wanted to give the illusion of reflection. It's just
solid blocks matched up with the water depth.

This video illustrates how hard it really is, and has made
many potential players throw in the towerl before even
playing it -

Yeah there's no chance of me making it past those areas.
Or... to them. That's Black Belt Metroid Master material
right there, but I'll give it a shot. I didn't even come
close to beating SM Redesign, and I even find the original
to be very hard because of the weird physics and my poor
navigational skills (and limited variety in tiles and
landmarks).

its easy to get lost in redesign, and the physics changes
threw me off, like not being able to wall jump right off
from the start, and the jumping gravity.

there are many hacks that arent nearly as difficult, you can
find them here -

So many games right now. It's overwhelming.

About 35% through GTA IV, loving it although the mission
variety isn't impressive. It's just like the past games.

Mario Kart Wii is great online. The single player is
frustrating due to the crap AI. Trading Time Trial Ghosts is
VERY addicting.

Just started Boom Blox Wii. Wow, totally surprised at how
great this one is. Only a little ways in but I can see this
one being a time suck.
