poor things was great. very funny, too. and a bit horror like
it, or killers of the flower moon or zone of interest should have won the oscar for best motion picture, for my taste at least (haven't seen all the noms though, for instance anatomy of a fall not)
i saw dutch movie de terugreis, which i liked a lot. maybe not the most original, but it helps when you know the national context better

of course Poor Things is very out there, so it'd be a surprising win, but Oppenheimer is so standard... at least barbie got nominated. i bought pink pants for that

I've read the novel "The Zone of Interest", I've no interest in seeing a film that's based on it in name only. Thank God Martin Amis died before this shit.
Barbie is a piss weak film that piss weak minded people that had lost what was left of their piss weak minds lost their shit over.

I couldn't bear to watch the original interview, so I am not about to watch a dramatisation of an interview I don't have the stomach to watch. Feeling embarrassment for others causes a physical reaction in me that shoots, painfully, from my bum to my balls. I physically cannot watch anything that embarrassing. I don't know if in my early years I was subject to some kind of Ludovico Technique, or I was just embarrassed at a young age by something going up my arse (and then on to my balls). Or maybe I was forced to stick something up someone else's arse to humiliate them? It was so long ago that the details are now hazy.

well, it's actors, so it's a bit removed from the real thing. but it's still painful, or cringe, as they say. kind of interesting to see how they (the royals) thought the interview would be a good idea

It follows 3.5/5
I loved the first half but it loses its charm and ends up being a pretty generic teen horror film.
Amour 4.5/5
Pretty bleak malgré it’s humanity. A few scenes really show Haneke’s grip with filmmaking. He knows his onions. The scene where she refuses to drink and he slaps her will haunt me for a while.

alex garland is 10/10
anyone should give civil war a 10/10. ex machina, too.
for me, dredd is a 10/10, too, but i guess one could not like action movies. same for annihilation, though i could understand someone deducting points, because they didn't get most the story, like i did
devs somehow flew by me. haven't seen it yet
garland's 'men' i thought pretty hilarious. maybe not a 10/10

i kind of hate this rating business. it's why i don't do it, mostly. i started rating on imdb, because it seems convenient to archive there what i've watched. i dislike having to rate something which is good, but just not my thing. among other things. i'm also often adding +1 for effort, which creates problems. not truly for effort, but because i try to score like autechre makes they're tracks: is it something unique, that added something for me
anyway
Poor Things 10/10 The Lighthouse 10/10
Ferrari (2023) 8/10

rebel moon 1+2, a solid 7/10 (the next one probably is, too). i understand the complaints, for sure
i like Justice League, Snyder cut 9/10
Mortal Engines (2018) 7/10. concept was great and it looked good, but the story and the movie in general felt devoid of emotions and stuff (same for rebel moon)

It Follows is very creative throughout imo, I really love the way it creates its own little not quite real universe of 70s TVs and tiny shellshaped ereaders. It's very unique and it leaves a lot unsaid.

Terrestrial Verses: perfect
Io Capitano, it's alright
both these movies can be seen as pro western values. with Terrestrial Verses being perfect, that doesn't irk me, with Io Capitano it does
both tell important stories, any which way. i guess Terrestrial Verses is more universally applicable, because doesn't every country slide into totalitarianism to a degree
