I didn't like Queer sadly, and not for obvious reasons. It's too long, it's too thin ( *chortle* ), I did want to like it but... nothing really happens. And the jarring, incongruous music is too much, I am sorry. The 5 minute or whatever music video of an old New Order song (who I like) over Craig taking smack was ... fucking juvenile.
And of course it was incredibly gay.

people think Guadagnino got robbed of oscar noms for Queer, but even more for Challengers. or the movies did, see the production design of Queer that i linked. and the cinematography of Challengers and the music.

that it doesn't go anywhere must be the novel as well. though at some point it pretends it does go somewhere, i guess you could say.

I have read a couple of Burroughs novels and not exactly loved them... it's a bit of its time, a bit dated. I've got Jack Kerouac's "Big Sur" out of the library at the moment and I'm not feeling that either.
I've not watched your link but the set, or virtual set, of a cinema set of Mexico was interesting. I liked the factory chimneys in the background, not sure if that was a nod to surrealists like Max Ernst and De Chrico. I'm probably talking out of my hat.

i haven't read Burroughs. i did read some Hemingway, of which it reminds me quite a bit. gay or not, it's both privileged males throwing their privilege around. which can be entertaining for sure, but also too much at some point

The Travelling Players, by Theo Angelopoulos.
A bit long and slow, but I had to watch it twice to understand what was going on.
Don't know how to rate.
