You’re a bigger (no pun intended) for rating Wicked that
high, but again one of the few movies I don’t like is
Wizard of Oz.

No musical hating, btw

you mean The Wiz?

i guess i'd recommend to you and your misses The Wild Robot.
it's good for kids (also very honest on the brutality of
nature) and for parents

i have to +1 that one as well, i see, to 9

+ La corona di ferro (aka The Iron Crown), 1941 - enjoyable and nicely shot, 8

+ I vampiri (aka Lust of the Vampire), 1957 - more mad scientist in a castle
being investigated by the local journalist than a vampire
film, but enjoyable, 7

+ 巨神兵東京に現わる (aka Giant God Warrior Appear... - Japanese short which essentially
is just a CGI giant god warrior appearing in Tokyo and
causing ruination, 7

+ 西荻窪駅徒歩20分2LDK敷礼2ヶ月ペット不可 (... - a fun animated short wherein a
young woman wakes up to discover she's a cockroach, and
attempts to let her boyfriend know, who then chases her
(believing it's a cockroach) around their apartment.
Inventively animated, 8

+ Pyschogenic Fugue, 2016 - John Malkovitch portrays David
Lynch and several iconic Lynch characters in this short film
made especially for the David Lynch Foundation, 7½

+ Girls at 12, 1975 - short documentary by Joyce Chopra,
which follows a small group of girls in the mid 70s as they
discuss life, boys and their discovery of gender inequality,
8

+ Wonka, 2023 - very uninspired songs, a plotline
that seemed so pointless, but the charm of the actors worked
and even as I knew shameless audience manipulation was going
on, I shed a tear a end, 7

+ What Happens Later, 2023 - Meg Ryan directs herself opposite
David Duchovny in this two-hander; at a small airport during
a storm delay, two people who shared a major relationship
during and after college bump into one another and play out
the usual analyses, hurt, reconciliation, understanding,
etc, 7

+ Nutcrackers, 2024 - A gem of a film, a well-worn plot
that is elevated by the cast, the setting, and the natural
offbeat naturalism of it all. Really enjoyed it, 8

+ Drive-Away Dolls - Hilarious and the nods to Henry
James actually make complete sense; like Nutcrackers
it had a mainly negative reception - both films have
plotlinles that on paper are very old hat, but in both cases
it is the characters and the individual situations and
flourishes which elevate them, 8

+ The Apprentice, 2024 - Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong
are fantastic, both inhabit their roles impeccably, like a
Sith Lord and his apprentice. The choice of filmstock and
techniques that recall the periods in which the film is set
(early 1970s to late 1980s) are most effective, a
fascinating and singular film, 8

saying: it's not too busy because it's too far away for
brits. so that changed)

Shogun (TV mini-series 1980) 4/5 because I haven't
re-watched the whole show, the grade might only go higher

Die Hard (1988) 4/5 or even 3.5/5 because why didn't
he...when he could....but it's an xmas dumbing down movie,
so....the sober you get while watching the dumber it looks.

Alien 5/5 just started rewatching, brb

I genuinely want to see "Queer" starring Daniel Craig. I
like Daniel Craig and I like to see him happy acting and not
doing Bond through gritted teeth.

And I like Gay films.

Daniel Craig is cool
Queer reviews all look like trash
No homophobia, I don’t care who or what you butt with
The film just doesn’t look good at all

Now if Mr. Wilco was doing gay stuff in it I’m sure it
would raise the rotten tomatoes rating

agree with that sentiment. on the other hand: possibly
that's what intermissions are meant for. and i liked the
second half way less

Mom paid and her two old lady friends went also. I was
falling asleep it was so slow. I went to her house
afterwards and she came home 2 hours later and I was like
how was the movie how did it end.
Mom’s answer: I don’t really know, he got raped by the
one guy whom he made the library for.

Wtf, I like Adtian Brody a lot but the movie was Hollywood
Grammy bullshit puke

my review, The Brutalist (spoiler free)

i saw someone saying on Twitter, inspired by The Brutalist:
for years i'd heard about Michael Corleone being some kind
of genius and i thought he'd be playing some kind of 4D
chess. but then i finally saw The Godfather and turns out he
just murders everyone that's in his way.
i kind of have a comparable feeling about The Brutalist.
maybe i just don't like the genre. but also i think it's
kind of stupid. individual plot point might not be cliché,
but the overall thing is. some short cuts to great writing
are taken (if you know, you know). the acting is the main
attraction. and the architecture, too, but i think it talks
about that in a chiché matter as well. though it does look
pretty good; but also mostly in close-ups
8/10 because it has its merits (maybe just watch the first
half)

yeah, so the review on ebert.com says the rape isn't out of
nowhere. i guess they're right, but it's still not too great
writing
