i think before van nistelrooy scored there was an offense on
zidane and it should be a free kick for madrid
but all in all it went pretty good, so i cant be too sorry
i hope they'll manage to score in manchester (at least one
goal, cus i dont think united can score more than 2)

hey, boy! those real madrid boys sure took some class to the
chimps from manchester. Raul, figo and zidane play like
giants while midgets manchester flounder in the dirt. Think
me that beckham will have little to keep him warm tonight :)

hehe perhaps they thought its going to be another easy
victory (alike the liverpool one)
perhaps they were tired...
perhaps madrid is a better team :)

wow! For sure, manchester are not champions of the world but
perhaps someday? Away goal could still prove them
triumphant.

3-0 would mean the end but that 3-1 leaves it all openned

imagine if manchester scores in the first half in old
trafford... I think anything could happen

but of course this is looking ery well for madrid

United really didnt deserve to be playing on the same field
as Real Madrid yesterday, the gulf in class was that
enormous.
A fair result would have been 5 or 6-1 but the ref helped
United alot, Real should have had 3 penalties (foul on
Ronaldo, Barthez handling outside the area, etc.....+Zidane
was fouled before United scored their goal.
I predicted exactly right a 3-1 for Real. I also predicted
2-1 for Ajax against Milan but that ended 0-0, but still due
to the away goals rule 0-0 is actually the same as a 2-1
home victory because Milan need to score once to advance.
My other predictions for tonight were Inter-Valencia 1-1
Juve-Barcelona 2-1 and they will come true :)

yes, deportivo is nowadays much better team than barça

but history means a lot in this cases and juve´s history
was so much better than deportivo´s that this experience
made juve go through

its the same with barça, though deportivo is much better
(nowadays) , barça´s experience and history has made them
get further than deportivo

now barça and juve meet with a similar history and
experience so only quality and technic will make the
diference... and sadly for me I think that at this point
juve is better

go barça!!

hehe, neither juve or barca doesnt stand a chance against
madrid :))

it would be better for barca to loose against juve-imagine
what a disapointment it would be when real would put them
out in the semi finals :)

this will sound terrible, but neither juve or barca didnt
impress me...
nedved surely had a bad day (probably because of the
injury), trezeguet is missing badly, del pier had some nice
moves, but it was one of their bad performances today -IMO
barcelona-saviola is the only one capable of wining a game,
but if he doesnt get the ball by his team mates he cant
score-kluivert doesnt try as hard as he used to-he leaves
all the work to saviola...xavi had a bad game, overmars had
some good moments...barca can be realy happy with that goal
my conclusion-if both teams will play at the same level
agains united or real they dont stand much chance IMO.

nacmat, do you perhaps know what was the result of the first
game between barca and real this season? (was it 0-0?)

looking forward to april 20th-always great to watch
barca-real games, it really speeds up my heart beat! :)

Saviola strike boosts Barça
Wednesday, 09 April 2003
Javier Saviola's late strike gave FC Barcelona the advantage
at the Stadio Delle Alpi, scoring a crucial away goal to
take back to Spain for the second leg of their UEFA
Champions League quarter-final against Juventus FC.

Javier Saviola celebrates his equalising goal against
Juventus FC

Montero strikes
Paolo Montero put the Italians ahead on 16 minutes but, with
Barcelona's first real chance of the match, Saviola struck
to make the Spanish side favourites to advance to a
semi-final against either Real Madrid CF or Manchester
United FC.

Nedved plays
The influential Czech midfield player Pavel Nedved shrugged
off a thigh injury to start but Juve were without David
Trezeguet as coach Marcello Lippi surprisingly started with
just one recognised striker in Alessandro Del Piero.

...

...
Montero on target
After a ragged opening period the Serie A leaders began to
assert themselves and went ahead on 16 minutes. Nedved swung
in a cross from the left which was met by Montero. The
centre-back headed the ball down to Del Piero whose overhead
kick was blocked by the Barcelona keeper Roberto Bonano. The
loose ball, however, fell back to Montero who rifled a shot
high into the goal.

Tudor miss
Juventus came into the match with the worst record of all
the teams in the last eight and, having struggled in
particular on their travels, were desperate to get off to a
strong start. Mauro Camoranesi almost engineered the cushion
of a second goal on 32 minutes, combining well with Igor
Tudor before sending in a cross that the Croatian headed
over from six metres.

Buffon confident
At the other end, Juve keeper Gianluigi Buffon was in
confident mood, dominating his area as Marc Overmars and
Michael Reiziger looked to open the Juve defence from the
flanks. The Spanish side, however, were restricted to
efforts from distance, and a Patrick Kluivert header and
long-range strike from Riquelme aside, Barcelona rarely
theatened before the break.

Xavi comes close
Eight minutes after the restart that changed. Overmars
crossed deep from the right to Xavi Hernández who hit a
left-foot volley with power but straight at Buffon. Two
minutes later, however, Juve might have made it safe.
Gianluca Zambrotta cut the ball back to Davids whose shot
was blocked but the ball broke to Del Piero who drew an
excellent diving save from Bonano.

Saviola strikes
But it was the Spanish side that struck next. On 78 minutes
Reiziger broke down the left and cut the ball back to
Saviola. The Argentinian striker swept the ball goalwards
and it deflected off Montero and low past Buffon for a
crucial away goal.

Late Di Vaio miss
As Juve pushed forward, Patrick Kluivert found space to dart
into the area and Buffon had to race off his line to save
well with his legs. Then deep into injury time Marcelo
Zalayeta's cushioned

...Then deep into injury time Marcelo Zalayeta's cushioned
header sent Marco Di Vaio through on goal, but the
substitute put his shot wide and with it may have gone
Juve's chances of a semi-final place.

Yeah, it was a fair match with few goal occasions for both
the team.
Juve play well only the 1st half.

I risked a collapse when Di Vaio shoot out the last ball in
front of Bonano.

I liked Puyol, great player... i'd like to have him in Juve,
with Montero and Thuram, it would be an invincible defense.

Nedved didn't play very well 'cos the injury was too
recent.

We will see another match in Nou Camp and probably Juve will
say goodbye to this champion's league edition :-)

yeah, they play a lot better in the italian serie a, its
weirs really-and same goes for real and barcelona in spanish
championship
by seeing them in european games i would say madrid could
win easily, but when they play against each other, its not
all that big difference, i guess they just know each other
too good...

and nedved and del piero are not classic strikers, its weird
di vaio or zalayeta didnt start the game...and the way lippi
changed zambrotta!??, he was one of the best players on the
field! (perhaps he was injured?)
anyway nedved is playing much better in the serie a, he can
easily decide each match imo
barcelona was playing the only way i saw them play in the
last year-all they're doing is trying to pass the ball up to
saviola and let him do all the work...
all antic did is improve their deffence, but there is still
no big difference in their game (at least from the games i
saw them).

antic indeed has improved the defence.

but barça dont rely its game on saviola at all... kluivert
is much more important... and the way overmars breaks by his
side.

barça has improved in defence but also in the fact that now
every player knows what he has to do... with van gall the
chaos was such that we didnt play a shit

its true anyway that barcelona doesnt play a good football,
but now its difficult to make them a goal, and saviola and
kluivert are back to their scoring skills (with van gaal
none of them scored at all this season) so they can really
win anybody if they have a nice day (remember 3-0 to inter)

i dont know about kluivert-i remember last season and one
previous to that, i was always kind of scared (when they
played against madrid) when kluivert got the ball, he was
really good (one of the best strikers at that time), but i
get this feeling that he's not trying anymore since saviola
started to play more-these two cant play together it seems
kluivert used to be alone in attack backed up with rivaldo
and overmars, and he had ideas of what to do, but it looks
like now with saviola playing alongside he just cant play
like he used to...perhaps this will improve in the next
season, it probably just takes some time for these two to
get to know each other??

anyway, im sure they can win anyone if they have a good day,
all best 16 teams in europe are pretty equal regarding
quality so almost anyone can beat another (tho im kind of
hoping for real to win hehe)

trezeguet will be ready for the juve-roma game then eh?
its not looking good for inter then...tho they're playing
much better in the past couple of games
well, im almost certain juve will win the league, but i
still kind of hope inter can come back :)

sorry mate, but I have seen every match barça has played
since 1984 (yes)
well not every match but probably 80% of them.
about kluivert and saviola, they have no problem togother, I
mean they are totally different styles, barça needs
kluivert cos he keeps the position and is good at
distributing the ball in the attack... and saviola is fast
moving, and better (maybe) when having to score, so lets say
that the ball starts at xavi, then it must go to overmars,
riguelmer, motta (or whoever) and then to kluivert, who at
last gives it to saviola to score. this doesnt happen
always, but it is kind of a normal procedure.

against juve: kluivert opens a great pass to reiziger
(surprise for the juve defenders) and he passes to saviola
who luckily scores. in this goal the error that juve makes
is caused cos kluivert makes that great pass to reiziger,
who was not supposed to be there, and thats why montero is
then late to stop saviola.
"kluivert thinks, saviola kills"

so this is my opinion, they have no problems in playing
together, the problem is that barcelona is a team that in
general (overall) they have been playing very bad these
years (last 3 years) and above all this last season. now
with Antic we dont play better (hes been here just 1 or 2
months so he needs time) but at least they have an order and
they keep it and they are good at defence and striking
back.

its all the team that you see with lack of ideas, not only
kluivert, he and saviola pay for the rest of the problems
(which in my opinion start with xavi who is not doing good
this year and with the absence of cocu)
