The Transformation of War Edit
Of particular significance is his 1991 book The
Transformation of War (UK: On Future War), which was
translated into French, German (New German edition in 2004),
Russian, and Spanish. In this treatise of military theory,
van Creveld develops what he calls the non-trinitarian
theory of warfare, which he juxtaposes to the famous work by
Clausewitz, On War.[4]

Clausewitz's trinitarian model of war (a term of van
Creveld's) distinguishes between the affairs of the
population, the army, and the government.[5] Van Creveld
criticizes this philosophy as too narrow and state-focused,
thus inapplicable to the study of those conflicts involving
one or more non-state actors. Instead, he proposes five key
issues of war:

By whom war is fought – whether by states or by non-state
actors
What is war all about – the relationships between the
actors, and between them and the non-combatants
How war is fought – issues of strategy and tactics
What war is fought for – whether to enhance national power
or as an end to itself
Why war is fought – the motivations of the individual
soldier
Van Creveld notes that many of the wars fought after 1945
were low-intensity conflicts (LICs) which powerful states
ended up losing. The book argues that we are seeing a
decline of the nation-state, without a comparable decline in
organized violence. Moreover, in his view, armies
consistently train and equip to fight a conventional war,
rather than the LICs they are likely to face. Consequently,
it is imperative that nation-states change the training of
their armed forces and rethink their weapon procurement
programs.

The book's significance is attested to by the fact that
until the middle of 2008, it was included on the list of
required reading for United States Army officers, and (with
Sun Tzu and Clausewitz) the third non-American entry on the
list.[6] Van Creveld's Supplying War: Logistics from
Wallenstein to Patton is now included on the list as well.

afraid to give a real statement about the situation. he just
deleted my comment calling him out on it, calling him a 90s

seriously?
looked up the pro russian referendum of 2014 in east
ukraine.
wikipedia tells a different story. guess there is always two
sides to it, but im not buying it.

look at the numbers:
2014 75%pro russia in donbass

1991 75% pro independence in all regions including the ea...

i find it hard to believe that the same families that voted
for independence in the east changed their mind and rather
be part of a oppressive system. on the other hand if putin
found a way to get the votes without breaking peoples legs,
he might have an argument.

is it an option to let donbass be russian?
and what is to gain from that?
im really just starting to get into the matter.
the news havent sufficiently concluded this matter to me.

There's no way anyone can defend Putin now

It's like Biden kept punching a bear in the face then
wondered why the bear scrammed him with his claws. Biden is
a fucking mong. I even said this would happen if Biden got
in.

But Putin has crossed the line now. It's too late to stop
the war. tens of millions will die.

the survivors will have to pick up the pieces.

uk is so divided
brexit vs pro brexit,
trump vs biden
etc

there will be civil wars all over the place

look at iraq, libya, afghanistan and what happened there.
private military companies, people fighting for their
families, for their rights, for resources, for food, to
impress women, fighting for whatever

i can see boris and biden and their crews being first to be
killed, putin will aim the nukes at the leadership.

there's no way this war will end soon. it's going to spread
like wildfire

during the cold war the ussr had a plan to use nukes under
the ocean on the west and east coast of the usa to cause
radioactive tidal waves and tsunamis. this tactic would work
even better on an island... the uk.

my friend in kiev had no plan... she's still there now

"My take on Ukraine situation? Get ISIS in there. "

Ah well now, that only works where the terrorists are
indigenous.

"The policy of guiding the evolution of Islam and of
helping them against our adversaries worked marvelously well
in Afghanistan against the Red Army," explains a former CIA
analyst. "The same doctrines can still be used to
destabilize what remains of Russian power, and especially to
counter the Chinese influence in Central Asia." In a certain
sense, the Cold War is still going on. For years Graham
Fuller, former Deputy Director of the National Council on
Intelligence at the CIA, has been talking up the
"modernizing virtues" of the Islamists, insisting on their
anti-Statist concept of the economy. Listening to him, you
would almost take the Taleban and their Wahhabi allies for
liberals. "Islam, in theory at least, is firmly anchored in
the traditions of free trade and private enterprise," wrote
Fuller. "The prophet was a trader, as was his first wife.
Islam does not glorify the State’s role in the
economy."
