You know it's big when the xlt thread reaches 1000 posts...

Supermarket around the corner from us was in the news.

20 staff tested positive and 2 have died. Jesus.

Yikes! We've been wiping down packages with rubbing alcohol
when we bring groceries and stuff home.

I've been reading more about what the ronie does to people
and it ain't pretty. Attacks your heart, nerves, kidneys and
intestines directly, can cause long lasting reduced lung
capacity, and blood clots and strokes in people in their 30s
and 40s of a type that normally only happen in your 60s and
70s.

It's an important thread about an important issue of the
day, but nowhere near the gravity of "rate the films you
see" of course.

as long as it doesn't tax the liver, because mine is often
busy

the idea of swabbing my groceries with rubbing alcohol...
feels tedious just to imagine it.

when i caught myself starting to consider such ideas, i
stopped.

People are afraid of people, that is for sure. I went
into my lobby, because now you have to go into the lobby to
get newspapers. And I walked around the corner to the mail
room, and a guy came out of an elevator, and he was looking
at his phone and almost banged into me. And I was, like, You
just got off the elevator. Could you look up? You’re not
distancing. The doormen are terrified of us. They have a
rope around the concierge desk. It looks like Studio 54.

Right, so you expect Steve Rubell to let you in if you
take your shirt off?

“Come on, I’m on the list!” Some people are afraid to
get their mail. Everyone says to me, “When you got the
package from Amazon, did you wash it?” No, I did not. I
saw a guy on the news the other night explaining how to open
a package. First of all, he’s standing in a suburban
kitchen the size of Grand Central Station. “Put this stuff
over there.” Oh, no problem. “Leave it outside in your
yard.” Oh, O.K. I also feel strongly that these
Republicans are thrilled that this is happening to New
York.

while i am not in new york, my kitchen and living room are
effectively one not very large room

Of course!

Yes we do the same with every single thing that comes into
the house from outside.

We also strip off out of our clothes and jump in the shower
after being out. Taking no chances.

i am not at clinical levels or anything, but i definitely
have a solid OCD aspect to my personality. i'll look at my
bookshelf, and say: that book is pulled out a bit further
than the other books; fix it. then: no, that one is off too.
ok, this one is taller than the other, swap it

and at that point, it's like scratching a mosquito bite: the
more i allow myself to do, the worse it gets. 45 minutes
later, i'm actually furious: fucking bookshelf! fucking
books still not right! i'm fucking sick of this, this is
exhausting

anyways, after years of being like that, eventually i
learned to be very careful w/rt what i allow myself to
obsess over, because that shit could be all day long

Alcohol bans, compulsory face covering, ... why, just have
have a look what the Koran has to say about pandemics, see,
it makes sense, you just have to say " Ashhadu anna Laa
ilaaha illaa Allah, wa anna Muhammadan rasulu Allah" and
then my cousin can get you a job on the local council and
you can start paying your bills again. Alright bruv?

i really did not want elizabeth warren to be the nominee,
and well, i got my wish. thinking about her as a veep
opposite of biden is actually quite an amusing thot
experiment -- biden is all snoozy and steady; warren is a
sensory assault of detailed liberal wonkism. i'm not sure
about the election prospects, but in the white house, that
would actually be very fun to watch. like two motorboats
tied together with a rope. could be oddly stable in these
unascertained chimes

I don't understand the rationale. Do they want a nation full
of irritable people suffering nicotine fits? You can't just
take away a man's baccy. Dunno about other people but
nicotine withdrawal makes me "I quit, I want a divorce, I'm
gonna kill you" angry.

To say nothing of the delirium tremens for hardcore
alcoholics.

musk meltdown

the stock price is too damn high

there was some interview in rolling stone or that sort of
rag, musk said

Musk disagrees. Strongly. “It’s not true,” he
replies petulantly. “I will never be happy without having
someone. Going to sleep alone kills me.” He hesitates,
shakes his head, falters, continues. “It’s not like I
don’t know what that feels like: Being in a big empty
house, and the footsteps echoing through the hallway, no one
there – and no one on the pillow next to you. Fuck. How do
you make yourself happy in a situation like that?”

guy 100% extrovert; hates being alone. it had occurred to me
that all this might wear on him. i feel bad for him, really

murder crop up a little but we're trying our best as neither

Still corrupt as fuck, we have a new mayor who seems
idealistic but for all we know the corruption has yet to be
exposed. I'm assuming the mob still fills a lot of public
contracts. But the mob, last I heard, was full of turf wars.
Don't think they've consolidated yet.

interesting, in berlin we have arabic clans who are more
like classic criminals (robbing/ protection money/ fraud)
but they are not really intertwined with society

i remember deserted skeletons of buildings in montreal that
were never finished because building agencies were corrupt.
thats a whole nother level. crazy

On the other hand how is this substantially different from
"normal" operation of the state in which the entire thing is
set up as a protection racket that takes donations from the
rich to defend their class interests? The only difference is
that the mob is a little more honest, and humble.

yeah, definitely. i think some clan people are pretty clever
guys who just never had the opportunity to enter that
society though proper integration, education and stuff, so
they found their own "humble" way to make streetsmart to
business

and also yes, we still have that airport in berlin that was
supposed to be opened

Heh. I was with a friend in Laval (1 bridge north of
Montreal) and he stopped at a Hells controlled brasserie to
buy some drugs. He left me on the corner at a bus stop with
strict instructions to not move and not speak to anyone no
matter what I saw or heard. Everything was fine but things
get shooty in Laval frequently.

In Corona news, the rest of Quebec now wants to cut Montreal
loose and let it drift into space, because we are too stupid
to practice social distancing.
