watched I'm Not There just now. i like the ambition of this film. the bit with ginsberg was marvelous. hated how rimbaud was portrayed. prior to that, 'Freedom' by Sharunas Bartas. it felt like i was watching Koyaqqwatssi once again (or whateverthefuck that movie is called). also Spiderman 2 yesterday. it was a torture. then Emmanuelle. she's pretty. 2010. it was ok i guess. Carpenter's They Live - ok too. I Am Legend - yuck. Warhol's Heat - the weakest from the trilogy. |

The 170 min. one. Is there a longer one I should watch? It was wrong in the first place to watch it so late in my life after seeing every possible homage and playing GTA: Vice City. I cannot blame this movie for the coutless ripoffs. Hell, I don't even know if there were any, I just felt like I had watched Scarface a hundred times without ever seeing it. It was painfully predictable and I don't mean story-wise - the unbelievable behaviour of Montana, that girl of his and Frank... who tha fuck is responsible for unleashing these cliches upon this innocent world?! Stone or De Palma? I guess Coppola in the first place. It must've been supposed to be over the top like that, but I have always been allergic to cult testosterone blockbusters and this one embodies what I hate in them. And the music... hah! The disco vibe wasn't half bad, but what Moroder did is embarassing, sorry for not getting the nostalghia. Nevertheless, I gave it a 7... that's really not bad. The fact you liked Cloverfield made me want to see it. Now, this last sentence bought me immunity from your criticism regarding my stance on Scarface. |

I meant there are two separate films :p There's one from 1932 remember :D Cloverfield is a little patchy but I thought it was a very interesting idea - not perfect by any means but I gave it four stars because a) the idea was well executed, b) on the whole it avoided being cheesy for most part c) at times it actually reminded me of mike leigh! |

Redux is great. Redux is the only version I remember now but the bit with the french lady is great, and i think the end is much longer (best part of the film!!!!!!). Manhunter was before silence of the lambs (i think). Hannibal is actually far too overdramatic played by anthony h. I watched manhunter again and it really is shockingly good. So much more subtlety than silence of the lambs. Red dragon was a really standard remake of manhunter, they gothed everything up and ended up making it very flat. It goes without saying it's not very good but perhaps more accesible for others. The rest..........lets just forget all about them |

Apocalypse Now is about excess made in the excessive and decadent 70s (one of the reasons the New Hollywood imploded)... it's a great film, but it's certainly not the best film either about a) war b) the human condition c) madness |

Noooo!! It's not tru, it's the only film that TRULY about the human condition and war. It's not about vietnam, not about america, not about 'the war'. It's about WAR. Col kurtz and the end of the river is a manifestation of the ultimate in WAR. The whole film is entirely centred on THE HORROR which is not a by product of war but the very heart of WAR. It is a spice, a kind of energy, and for those who were built for war (kurtz), who have no other life but war, they become war. "it hit me like a diamond bullet". Kurtz desribes it as a kind of purity in function combined with committing your soul to the HORROR. Kurtz is the line under the word WAR, the line under the meaning of it, and it's ugly "like slow death and maleria". There is no other film that touches this the way Apocalypse Now does. Full metal jacket is fucking great but it's about something else. Apocalypse now can never be beaten!! so there!!!!! *tired now* |

I'm not registered. But tha's OK cos I'm not about to read a whole essay on it. It is a strange film. It's saying more than 'war is....'. It's more about the people ie joker, pile, the drill sergeant i forget his name, ect. That bit with cameramen interviewing soldiers n stuff. It's emphasis is on something other than war somehow.
