cous cous 3.5/5

not bad but nothing special, it's tragicomedy about family
issues served around the famous moroccan dish. do not watch
it if you just fight with your girl or your mother, the
women speech can be really disturbing.

The Fearless Vampire Killers - 3.5/5

Not Polanski's best but a decent enough horror spoof
beautifully filmed.

I like it. Do you think the studio ghibli stuff is too
weighted with a funny kind of human guilt to show children?
It's just because i still get this heavy feeling from them,
like i'll never be that pure and selfless. I'll shut up now

nausicaa is my favorite one.

awhile back I muted the whole film (with subs) and gave it a
future sound of london soundtrack. it works really well.
maybe i'll put it on youtube someday.

yeah you should, sounds good... i really liked the Joe
Hisaishi soundtrack for this, some really good 80's
electronica, in some of the early scenes the visuals and
music reminded me of the Metroid games. I can't believe how
good the animation is for its time, the story seemed very
similar to Monoke, but I think this was the much better
film...

gonzo: the life and work of dr. hunter s thompson - 3.5/5 -
a lot of it was just retreading material from his books, but
near the end they showed more of his personal life and i've
never seen any film footage of him so all the clips were
quite interesting. bill murray makes a chameo at the
funeral.

Wanted 2.8/5
Stylized action. A fun popcorn flick but not the best film.
Bits of it reminded me of something between Office Space &
The Matrix.

The Incredible Hulk 3.3/5
While it was better than the previous version, I don't know
that it was so much better to warrent completely ignoring
the existance of a movie that just happened a few short
years ago. I felt like much of the same ground was covered
and I had to set through a different spin on the same ideas.

I Don't Want To Sleep Alone - between 3.5 and 4.5

This is the sixth Tsai Ming-Liang film I've watched this
month and, for me, it's the toughest seed to crack.
Everything expected is here: beautifully composed shots,
patient pacing, and imploding emotions. I just have no
fucking clue what it is about. Watch 20 minutes of silent
sponge baths.. again?! The things I do for Tsai.

300 was fantastic fun, even though it represents morally and
philosophically everything I hate and despise. I think it's
comparable in many ways to Triumph of the Will, but that's a
compliment for any militarist film.

darjeeling limited, on the other hand, was on the right side
of the fence philosophically - so I wanted to like it - but
horribly empty and pretentious and, worst of all, false in
its orientalist excesses.

I know it's ironic and post-joke comedy, and a kind of
"thinking man's Road Trip", but none of that appeals to me
as much as the simple but effective narrative of Rushmore,
the director's earlier film. The Life Aquatic with Steve
Zissou, too, was more to my liking, but that's not to say I
didn't like Darjeeling Limited. Seven out of ten is a pretty
high score in my books.

I'm sure if I had been smoking the dope I would have been
like "wooow is that like India, maaan?" but unfortunately I
chose to drink apple juice instead while pondering about
Owen Wilson's real life suicide attempt as his disfigured
face popped in and out of view...

On the other hand, I just saw

Broken Flowers - 8/10

which I liked quite a bit.

are we reviewing TV series as well? Well then...

Babylon 5 - 5/5

Absolutely the best TV programme i've seen in any genre,
honestly, why can't all sci-fi series be this good?

Battlestar Galactica has had a good go at it but has really
gone downhill after a brilliant second season.

Less than Zero 3.8/5

Haven't watched this in several years, but it was on last
night and we were able to catch it from the beginning.

This was based on a book by Bret Easton Ellis (American
Psycho), which I haven't read. It did make me want to pick
up Lunar Park again, which I started reading but then never
finished. Lunar Park & Less than Zero both draw inspiration
from Ellis' personal life struggles.

This movie is cool because it has all the elements of a
great 80s movie, but then also has a dark, serious edge with
the subject matter. Anthony Michael Hall & Robert Downey
Jr. are both great, and it is interesting seeing Downey
portray an out of control drug abuser because it kind of
foreshadows the personal problems he would have later on.

another brilliant Korean film... and yet another that is
being remade by hollywood.

TV:

The Wire - 3.8/5

A little overrated (9.7 on imdb?), requires some effort from
the viewer and you really have to be in the mood to watch
it, but it is very good... but I always felt there was
something missing though, it's never really 'gripped' me...

oh god, I have a distinct memory of seeing Failan, but I
have absolutely no recollection of what happens in that
movie, except that that one guy from Oldboy is in it... I
know I liked it though.

Remakes are Hollywood's way of saying "thank you" and "fuck
you" to Asian cinema, both at the same time.

No country for old men - started good, had potencial, I
watched it without seeing any trailers or reading anything
on the net then after L... something something... the movie
ended there, complete shit afterwards. But the main villain,
is worth to watch the whole movie because of him, best
character in cinema since a very long time.

American Gangster - I don't really these kind of all stars
movies with rappers... not only Denzel is always the same so
is Russell Crowe, the acting, the filming, the visuals, if
the credits didn't mention Ridley Scott I wouldn't believe
it. One of the worse gangster movies I've ever seen, they
could have casted better actors, done better photography,
something that didn't look so preset'y, the camera shots are
really basic and ugly, it's like a TV movie, infact I've
seen better TV movies than this shit.

TV:

Dae Jang Geum - 5/5

I've only just started watching this, its a Korean
historical drama based on a true story... the series is
about 50 hours long and each episode 1 hour. Just finished
the first episode and already there has been two poisonings,
the Korean's do like there melodrama, i'm hooked though. I'm
going to try and space out the episodes so i can savour it.

This is the first Korean drama i've watched, interesting
that you can pick up quite a few Korean TV series in the US
on DVD.
