what annoys me the most is that people who don't want to take sides, who don't have a bias, who aren't fundamentalists or ignorant westerners, ordianary people who can be respectful and understanding, are going to get caught in the crossfire of any further conflict. not all muslims want to draw blood for this, and not all westerners agree with the cartoons being published. i belive that censorship is wrong; if we can be told what to see, we can be told what to think and all that, BUT making a picture of something which is obviously done to antagonise people is just damn stupid. there is freedom of the press, and then there is sheer bloody mindedness. the west has fucked about in the middle east for far too long and why is anyone suprised that suddenly people are getting pissed off? any conflict and who dies? you and me. we get killed. the ordinary people. we bomb them, they bomb us, we bomb them again etc... and its the poor sods on either side on street level that are paying the price for a conflict they don't want to be involved in.. also i wish people would stop scapegoating the muslim faith for being a force of hate, look at northern ireland and the catholics and protestants. |

there's free speech and there's having a bit of common sense. the first publisher should have realised after nthe fact what they did was rude to a lot of peopel and retracted it and made an apoogy. Everything else afterwards, the killings, the riots etc is centuries of cultural tensions being released as the perfect excuse to rease it just fucking landed. In the climate we're in now, THINK FUCKING SENSIBLY. All you have to ask yourself is "is what i say or what i write going to cause problems and can the consequences be handled?".
