Hey Phob, I like this alot.

I don't suppose you could add the link to continuing pages
ie 1 2 3 4 5 at the foot of the discography table too.

Ta!

Phobiazero, this could well become the most complete and
exhaustive listing on the web. Well done on it, but how do
you plan to keep it up to date? I can imagine it will take
you some time to do that... Great resource though.

Well I'm sure a few pedants on the board will make sure it
is just tip top!

Talking of which I have lots of album covers I can scan.
I'll wait for it to be complete as I'm sure you have a lot
of stuff waiting in the wings.

milkman: i do have an enthusiastic crew, which are more than
willing to help out and the tools we've developed to
maintain the discography is also very sophisticated yet easy
to use.

but we just can't cover ALL releases - just a few selected
labels and their surroundings.

the discography is just a part of xltronic tho, much more
are coming up....

I think that is rather insulting to both myself and the
Milkman (whether it was directed at him or me or both of
us), as where we do get promos from the labels, we are under
no obligation to review them - I have gotten promos for
years before I started doing reviews on the records I liked,
and I get lots of promos I don't mention or review. You
shouldn't assume a situation before you have all the facts.

Insult?

It was directed to 'professional reviewers' as stated in my
message, but that's what they do for a living anyway. But
also a comment based on my own experiences.

I'm with Phob. Reviews are so subjective and often trite old
poney. Let audio samples do the talking and just fill us in
on the recordings' data.

Suggestion:

Instead of listing a cd for every time it was re-released,
or released on another label, there should be one listing
for each album and have more details (ie cover artwork,
release dates, format, record label, etc.) about it inside
the link. I would still list each one for more major
changes in the album... like extra tracks, or limited
edition albums.

A valid suggestion, except that often the data in the
database isn't correct for the re-issue: things get reissued
on different labels, or with different cat numbers, or on
alternate formats, or with different artwork etc etc, so a
new entry for the re-issue makes sense then.

offline Refund from Melbourne (Australia) on 2003-08-16 16:37 [#00824686]
Points: 7824 Status: Lurker

is there any chance you could implement an option to add
your own custom records, records that the site does not have
hosted

so, for example, you could "add unlisted release" and fill
in the artist, title, cat# format, year, label, all on your
own,

this would make for a more complete recordbag for most
people.

we're somewhat concerned that xltronic is a reliable
resource and we'd prefer the crew to update the discog.

but you never know....

but these would only appear in each individuals recordbags,
not become an addition to the site

that would still collide with the philosophy of this site
and how it's designed.

sorry...

we'll do our best to include most of the relevant stuff out
there.

offline Powli from Lawrence, KS on 2003-08-22 02:23 [#00832263]

Suggestion #2:

It might be nice for members to be able to rate
albums/artists, like a "1=Worst 10=Best" system.

Also, it may be useful for there to be, under each artist, a
"similar artists" category, for people to discover new
artists easily.

.............end.

you do that by rating tracks, which is far far far better.
the overall/average rating of a specific release is based on
the ratings of the tracks that is appearing on the release.
by doing so you're affecting the rating off all releases it
appears on.

does that makes any sense? i believe so... :-D
