...in your neighbourhood that are into electronic music?

Are you off-line friends into electronic music?

I've gotten some of my friends into Aphex Twin, and Bogdan
and stuff, but some of my friends hate IDM just for the sake
being.

And a girl I know liked Girl/Boy Song. She wanted ta know
which cd and artist it belonged to. ^_^
She said that this was her kind of music, hehe.

Well, apart from people I've met here and subsequently know
in real life, not really. I know a few people who like quite
a few IDM tracks, but you certainly wouldn't say they were
fans of the genre.

How about you Phob?

yes... most of the people within my little social circle
like or at least appreciate electronic music..even some
girls!
a few of my friends even make it themselves.. its as if we
have our own little 'micro scene'

and i suspect there are other people i dont really know who
like it.. most of the kids who work at the local music
store, for instance

heard of it.

I hear a lot of trance playing from car stereos, if that
counts as electronica, yarr..

Im the only one in about a 5 mile radius that listens to
IDM, and let me point out that in LA thats a lot of damn
people who dont. I only know of 2 other people.

Thing is, how do you know that people aroond you don't
listen to IDM? I was surprised when I found out some of the
people I sort of knew listened to this shit. Some of em were
office types (like me) and some of em were metallers (like
me also). Fuck, RDJ could live round the corner of your
street but if you never run into him you won't know he's
there. Maybe if I went oot and met real people, I could find
some more of them...

Zero. Not that I know many people anyway, I'm a crazy loner
eccentric, but I've talked to some of the bigger music fans
at my college and they usually know Aphex Twin, but it's one
thing to know an artist and another to be INTO an artist. I
don't know anyone that's really into IDM, and there's not a
trace of it anywhere. Only IDM album you can get here
without a hassle is the RDJ Album, and the guy at Musicworld
told me they had one copy of Drukqs sitting around for a
while, I was the only buyer. I found that hard to believe.

Closest thing would be some guy in my English class last
year that was doodling a Kraftwerk logo in his notebook, and
I asked him if he was into IDM, and I mentioned Autechre,
and he didn't have a clue. That was depressing.

my girlfriend has a cd I did to her:
(dont remember the order)

eyen - plaid
4
girl boy
flim
iz us
pir - ae
goon gumpas
alberto balsam
to win her love - leila
windowlicker
come on my selector - spusher
(the piano pices from drukqs)
track one peel sessions 2 - ae
auttum acid - uziq

and thats all she can listen of idm... and she is the only
one around me that has really listened to it more than twice
(cos I ve played idm in several parties I ve djed, and none
of my friends have really showed any interest.... plaid is
the group that they tolerate the most)

music I made. I mentioned some of my influences and he knew
about Ae, but that was it.

I think most people around me are into Tenacious D. That is
depressing.

ill put a law which says, that anybody who listens to idm
has to wear a sign of choice somewhere...
special forces will come out to everyone who has this kind
of shit on his harddrive or bought those records
and make sure he wears it, controlling sometimes in the
first period this law is approved.
everybody who doesnt, loses one of his records...(to another
registered idm-fan)

i only know one person who likes this stuff and we dont meet
often.
in germany its even hard to find a breakbeat party.... damn
shit!

Off-line friends? What are they?

I know a couple of people into electronic music, but don't
really see them as much as I would like. I've also got a
mate who's mainly into trance-type stuff and who I've
recently introduced to Autechre. But that's it really.

people that like werid arse music are pretty rare here, most
people listen to "punk" or else, really really bad trance,
quite iften if you do find people that like weird music in
australia, they will go out of their way to meet up, I've
had a guy from adelaide show up on my doorstep (Ryan Verner
I think), a guy from perth (Sam Knight), another guy from
perth (Forget his name), and a guy from victoria (also
forget the name).

so in a sense, IDM heads over here try and stick together
