Greatest movie about isolation etc

I need a good movie that deals about isolation, loneliness,
and not pseudo crap but real isolation.
something thats dark preferably and more psychological in
nature.

thanks

For individuals, The Shining is a good example.

For more 'societal isolation', deliverance/the wicker man
(original) are hard to beat.

max in pi was quite isolated from the real world.

ok, but i meant more about a person who has inner turmoil,
maybe something set at a school, with no friends etc..
something to make you really feel that the main character is
an outcast..

Oldboy is a pretty good example too. Without giving much of
the plot away, the main character spends a
substantial amount of time alone.

yeah pi is good, but i kind of want a new one..

oldboy seems to deal with complete isolation, im talking
more about being around other people, yet feeling completely
alone, and somehow making that a point in the movie.

About Schmidt is the last movie which fit that description
for me. Nicholson plays that kind of role really well.

Bill Murray also springs to mind. Broken Flowers maybe?

roughly within the same theme.

Same as my last post. It's a comedy, though

"Bad Boy Bubby is just that: a bad boy. So bad, in fact,
that his mother has kept him locked in their house for his
entire thirty years, convincing him that the air outside is
poisonous. After a visit from his estranged father,
circumstances force Bubby into the waiting world, a place
which is just as unusual to him as he is to the world."

INLAND EMPIRE is a good bet (I haven't seen it yet) but it
sounds like Lost Highway is perfect for what you're looking
for.

thanks guys lots of good suggestions.
about the only ones i havent seen are those bergman films,
ill have to find them somehow.

also about waking life.. that movie actually killed my
interest in lucid dreaming heh..
to me it seems like the power of dreams lie in the fact that
yiou dont know you're dreaming. it becomes like reality.
if i knew i was dreaming (and ive never experienced it) then
it seems to take the magic out of it cuz you're not toally
immersed in it.

realizing this sort of killed the movie for me, because
instead of completely escaping reality like dreams can do,
the main character knew he was in reality, and in a dream,
which sucks :/
