personally i wasn't that impressed by australia. i mean they
couldn't score against japan for almost 90 minutes and
that's pretty weak. once they scored first one japanese
completly let go so it wasn't that hard to score those other
2. imo.

czechs play on the same level as they did on the last
european cup, which means pretty good. italy has a strong
deffence as always. cannavaro and nesta are probably the
best defending couple for years now..also, it's really cool
to see lippi picked proper strikers this time. usually they
were a big problem for italy for some reason..totti is the
core of the team obviously.
i thought ghana played really well. kuffour made that silly
mistake at the end (they guy everyone would the least expect
that from), or else they would have a chance to tie..

so far i was little disappointed by english team. they
played well, but only scored one goal..

looking forward to brazil today, i say they will win with
two goal difference :)

Taking in consideration of the course Autralia went through
and the history of them in soccer it's a very good result.
I haven't seen the match so I can't tell if they really
deserved to win.

This match will give them energy because they believe it's
possible plus they still are in an upward trend.. and
believe me, that is much more important than having
individual quality soccerplayers.

oh, they deserved to win! no doubt about that. i hate what
japan did..that never pays off..unless you're italy maybe.

hiddink knows what he's doing, although they had quite a bit
of luck to win yesterday..they were like 5 minutes away from
losing.

czech republic only played usa.

germany only played costa rica.

that doesn't take away from the fact germany and czech
republic played well.

japan are a better team than costa rica. and australia
bloody well could've easily scored against japan several
times, you can't say not being able to score against japan
is weak when they hit the goal frame (i dunno, cross bar and
upright?) twice and dominate all other play. it was not luck
at all that made them win, it was hard work and spirit, if
anything it was unlucky to hit the post twice and have that
very incorrect japanese goal given.

just wait until australia put away brazil :P

It might be because you tend to tell what you don't like
instead of what you like.
In this topic you seem to pick the negative part of a match
to talk about, so you'll get feedback of people telling it
isn't so... because they tend to see the positive side.

Just a thought.

I've seen plenty of great moments, especially for it being
the first round on a bloody hot WC.

sure, it had its moments, but overall quality was pretty low
so far.

togo just scored!

I've been extremely impressed by the African teams in this
tournament! I expected the likes of Trinidad & Tobago,
Angola and Togo to just roll over tamely and lose all their
games - but far from it!

I expected Ivory Coast to play quite well with the team
they've got and they didn't disappoint against the Argies
either!

i prefer good football over deffensive one. it's why i like
real madrid too. they can get as many goals as they get as
long as they score more innit.

Very weak football of France (1 player of France is worth

"Looks like France were playing for 0-0 again"

it looked that way didn't it? i wonder why henry was playing
though, if they decided to go for nil nil..and i also wonder
why trezeguet was selected..they obviously have no need for
stikers since they clearly don't want to score. 400 minutes
without scoring on world cups..just lovely.

that's because those supporters are used to seeing 5 goals
scored in their games. something isn't right in the team for
quite a while already, but they still play very offensive.

but, if emerson gets second yellow which isn't unlikely,
things may get interesting again..

If Brazil continues to play like this they won't make it to
the semifinals.. They played very weak for a team which such
great talents, speaking of which.. Ronaldo is going downhill
pretty fast.

sorry you are wrong

their game has been based in casillas being a great
golakeeper, and ronaldo being a great striker.
they all defended in their field and used counterattacks
when the rival made a mistake

that is not offensive play

offline nacmat on 2006-06-13 15:23 [#01919361]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker

brazil wastes all its talent

they dont play like team

if they made the ball go fast from player o player (and they
have the quality to do that) they would really be good...
but they just walk around and fight each on their own...

offline NIL-0 from trans pennine express on 2006-06-13 15:26 [#01919363]

erm i didnt say it was offensive play. i just think that
given the circumstances they can raise their game as a team.
they have the skills and given the impetus they tend to use
them...

Do you guys think England will improve? Can they beat Brazil
or Argentina drom what we've seen so far?

not from what we've seen so far - but remember england can
be very very organised without showing much flair. Some
teams will find them hard to play against. Englands worst
enemy is itself. And im hopeful that the coming of rooney
will bring about a revival in quality.
