and in any event not diving is its own reward, as really
nice second-efforts from Drogba showed this evening.

agreed, an absolutely pathetic display put on by argentinian
defense - taking dives after tackling ivory coast attackers.

the ivory coast definately deserved more from their match
against argentina. argentina however, if they're able to win
this way, i'm afraid they're unstoppable. even brasil
wouldn't stand a chance.

Argentina unstoppable?

If the Ivory Coast had a better goalkeeper/defence they
wouldn't have won the match.

I don't say they aren't but there were some leaks in the
defence system of the Ivory Coast.

argentina as italy tend to start really low... but look
where they get at the end

messi didnt even play

my point was that argentina won by luck, and with that kind
of luck they'll going to make it far in this tournament.
whether or not the leaks in the defense of ivory coast
helped...i dunno. i think those leaks (obviously there were
a couple, 2 at least) were incidental. argentina had the
luck to take advantage of it.

The Ivory Coast got lots of good chances and could have
scored more goals. I didn't think Argentina got that many
chances although they kept the ball more and were the
stronger team. There was lot of power in the Ivory Coast
team.

Yes, they got tired pretty quickly during the second part of
the match. Holland was very organised, they might play a big
role later in the finals, who knows.

they weren't amazing or anything, but they played about as
well as any team has in this tournament so far... the only
teams that are not underachieving at this point are the ones
who don't have a chance in hell.
It would have been nice to see Tevez or Messi get some
playing time... particularly ahead of Palacio, who mostly
played like shite.

sure, but they should still go for one more goal advantage
imo. surely they will play better with tougher opponents,
but i still can't see them do anything against brazil or
germany. they can probably play as good as most of those
other teams though.

i never said germans were on the same level as brazil. it's
quite obvious that brazil is miles ahead of everyone else.
if they are not going to win it could only be because either
germany or france will beat them :-)

Possible, possible. I wouldn't agree on England based on
what I've seen so far, but that's just my ignorant
perception not based on any deeper football knowledge.
I wish Argentina wins the cup. I am bonded with them for
good or bad since the first match I've seen in my life -
Argentina-Germany (1990, right?) - ugly stuff, lots of
blood, but that was entertaining for an 8 year old.

the thing about england is that they have a great defence,
probably the best midfield in the world (lampard gerrard)
and once they have rooney....

also they have beckam, I dont like hi as a player, but his
foor is gold, he touches the ball like no one else, so it
gives england a great weapon for corners and faults, cos
terry, gerrard, campbell... lots of them go great with the
head

and in worldcup, strategy plays an important roll (corners,
faults)

argentina won by luck? hahaha you mus be blind. in my
opinion is the team that has showed the most category so
far. the technic is flawless. they weren't "lucky" they
scored 3 good goals (one didn't count) they do sin with
overconfidence, do they lost some stupid balls here and
there, but overall they showed stature that no other team
has so far.

and when you have people like aimar, messi, and tevez on the
bench you know it's a powerful team.

it's between argentina and brazil. france's got nothing,
germany's got nothing, italy's got nothing and definately
england's got nothing.

i may be a little biased. lol

So far it's been a great start. I've enjoyed most matches,
the only downsides for me being the second half of England v
Paraguay, and everything about Argentina's attitude and way
of playing against the Ivory Coast. Arrogant, cocky and
fakers. i found the orange team much nicer to watch, even
more elegant.

i love talking about football at times, but i hate the
damright one-sidedness of some people. I hated their
attitude (argentina) but still love some of the players..
and watching players like Messi play is nearly always a joy
for me. i think a lot of teams have a chance this year..
ff's Greece won the Euro '04..

i loved watching them play this game. they took bad
situations into good ones, just out of personal technique.
saviola played a great game.

and yeah argentinians were overconfident at times (what you
call arrogant and cocky), they tried to retain the ball when
they were ahead and they missed a lot of easy passes. that's
why ivory coast scored it's goal. also, i think even the
coach was overconfident as the changes he made were awful
(WTF palacio!), like he was experimenting or something.

overall i think argentina was smart and they played well.
and ivory coast didn't. and no way they played more elgant.

i just like that team. heh

I'm argentinian, and have a feeling that will not be good a
world cup for us, I'm not in agreement with many of the
players summoned for this championship, I believe that the
nervousness will be present always in the Argentineans, they
play with much pressure, all this country is protesting to
them that they must be champions. In this world cup will be
surprises, the denominated "small" teams are going to
demonstrate that fútbol/football/soccer in these times is
very competitive for all, I believe that will be
surprises... Ivory Cost was very, very difficult, very
strong, must have been tie (2-2), they played very well.

Brazil and Germany are obviously the main candidates (in
theory) but would not be weird that a team with smaller
aspirations arrives very far. Argentina never had luck, in
fact always we have very bad luck, believe me ... i only
hope that in the following games they play more concentrated
and calm.

but yes, lots of teams have some chance... and brazil is a

it again

so Australia play Japan tonight, such an important game for
us............ or World Cup hopes will be dictated by these
90min..... if we play well and win win, we might make the
second round..... wven if we play well and draw, things
could work out..... but a loss, or to play poorly, would be
the end........

and I saw the Netherlands play last night..... they have a
great team and could win the cup....... of course, it would
have been good if they scored a few more goals........ and
maybe they lack flair........
