yes britain is statistically more at risk from the IRA than
any other terrorist group. expha,i know its easy to point
the finger, but think very carefully about what you say on
such a subject. that is such and ignorant and bigoted
comment its disgusting.

Terror, g8 summit, the olympics, london, ID Cards, how is it
possible, how come it didn't happen before, straight on the
internet when I heard the news, we are to blame, they are to
blame, religion, foreign policy, asylum seekers, standstill,
terror, media orgasm, The Evening fucking Standard after 4
years of "Terror Alert in London" headlines FINALLY gets to
print all the graphics, maps, hysteria and grim details it's
been itching to do since 9/11, portents of doom, where will
it end, houseprices, shares, leaving the country, g8, war on
terror, the internet.

you would think that after all the centuries of terrorism
worldwide, people would eventually learn to not have
knee-jerk reactions to blaming an entire community, for
which the very very very very VERY small minority is
responsible.

it is easy to listen to sound bytes about how it's all about
'taking away our freedoms' yada yada yada, when it really
has nothing to do with that utopian bullshit at all. it
doesn't even have anything to do with religion. religion is
a scapegoat - or even better, it can be a driving force -
motivation. it's all about politics, betrayal and inequality
(although a sweeping, generalized statement on my behalf,
but better than what i usually hear).

Brazil, where hearts were entertaining june
We stood beneath an amber moon
And softly murmured "someday soon"
We kissed and clung together

Then, tomorrow was another day
The morning found me miles away
With still a million things to say
Now, when twilight dims the sky above
Recalling thrills of our love
There's one thing I'm certain of
Return I will to old Brazil

after House-arrests, ID card proposals as well as that
(fucking ridiculous) incitement to religious hatred bill
which is just going to be manipulated by radicals everywhere
as a basic form of media censorship, this attack might well
back up Labour's plans to inhibit all our personal freedom.
better safe than sorry is one thing, but... the future looks
grim.

But I can't believe that the government would do that just

Yup, there is no doubt this is a direct consequence of our
support of bush's illegal war. After 9-11 we should have
harnassed the goodwill and sympathy from the middle east and
ended the bloodshed... been bigger than the terrorists
rather than picking on politically fragile, oil rich
countries in the name of freedom. Our leaders, literally a
few men, went under the UN and public opinion to jeapordise
the lives of our soldiers and now innocent people on our own
soil.

I'm from London and my reaction to yesterday is that of
immense pride in our emergency services and people in
general.. i heard sirens solidly for 4 hours and my building
in canary wharf got evacuated but no-one really seemed to
panic, we were more concerned for the death count...

I hope blair realises the can of worms he has opened, Iraq
is a hotbed of terrorism now and middle eastern perception
of the west is at an all time low.

i agree with most of what you say, and im proud of the way
brits have reacted too..

but sept 11 was a bigger attack than this, and that was
pre-iraq war right? surely this would have happened
regardless of the war in iraq? but with the added possibilty
that had we not de-throned sadam, that it could have been
chemicals yesterday..?

hasnt iraq et al, been a'hotbed of terrorism' for about 20
years + now?

You really don't know what you're talking about.

Iraq a hotbed of terrorism for the past 20 years? What, do
you subscribe to daily newsfeeds from georgewbush.com or
something?

Iraq was never a hotbed of terrorism until the "coalition of
the willing" invaded and it turned into a free-for-all. It
could never have been - Saddam was a dictator, a meglomaniac
- he never allowed subversive behaviour to go on, against
any country, under his nose.

And what would he have had to gain by having a dirtybomb
planted in a western city? The west didn't concern him, he
had plenty of enemies neighbouring him with whom he was far
more worried due to the fact that his state was literally
defenseless and crippled from years of sanctions.

And no, this wouldn't have happened regardless of the war in
iraq. If Britain hadn't been involved, she wouldn't have
been targetted.. Britain's recent history of interference in
the middle east isn't anywhere near as bad as America's, so
had Blair not jumped on the Iraq war bandwagon, attacks
might have continued against America, but certainly not
Britain.

you need to chill. i made no claims there; only questions.
and i cant stand bush, and i do think him, or more likely
his dad, is to blame for things going sour with bin laden et
al.

but didnt iraq needlessly invade kuwait in the 80's? didnt
sadam breed that army? his sons were ruthless rapists and
terrorists weren't they? have these hostage takers in iraq
just sprung up from the fucking smoke? they were surely bred
by sadam.

and you can never claim this wouldnt have happened on our
shores if it were not for the iraq war, cos you cant be
certain. i totally take your point about this war, and us
getting involved and that.. but how would you have dealt
with sadam.. just waited until he had enough strength to
start meddling with bigger fish?
