I mostly like it when you get all "grown up" now and then,
but this one seems a bit of a hit and miss.

why have gotten a kind of brokephonesesque avatar, btw?

I think r40f put things nicely into perspective in his post.
Fair play a lot of people have respect for the guy, but he
is just a human, no better than you or me, he has had a good
life and not suffered much. I have noticed a lot of people
on the board (including yourself), have no problem laughing
at the misfortune/mistakes of others....what makes this guy
so special?

You are talking nonsense. The anti condom issue is a lot
more rooted in the Christian (not just Catholic beleif) that
sex should only take place in a monogomous relationship
between a married man and woman. If people chose to ignore
this teaching why would they then choose to abide by the
idea condoms shouldn't be used? The fact of the matter is
that the resolve with which the pope refused to concede to
casual sex as acceptable has made his an easy target for
blame. The simple fact of the matter is that both education
and availablility of contraception in Africa is beyond
woeful.

Not suffered much? For fucks sake...he lost his mother and
brother before he was 14 years old, his friends where taken
to concentration camps and murdered then he had to go into
hiding to practise his faith. He was 58 years of age before
he became Pope with all the added benefits, then he was shot
in an assasination attempt.

The things he has done a numerous to mention. Before you
type utter bollocks it might be better to find a little out
about the subject.

yes, education about and availability of contraception in
Africa is pretty dire, but aren't a lot of Africans also
devoted Christians?

in other words, would the condoms have been readily
available, how many religious Africans would've actually
used them?

so it isn't "the pope's fault" but he certainly hasn't
helped this already awful situation - which in essence isn't
about monogomous relationships between men and women, but
about saving lives.

the situation in Africa is radically different to the
situation in the western world, so it could be at least
called short-sighted to just convert the same methods on a
wholly different situation.

Isn't the real message- Fucking is for making more
Catholics- not "for a monogomous bla bla...?

And don't you think the contraception issue would be a wee
might improved if he said to the poor African woman who
can't afford another child and maybe has a husband that
fucks aids-ridden whores- "It's okay to make your husband
put a piece of rubber on his penis so he doesn't kill you"

Humor is subjective. If something's not funny to you don't
laugh about it. Laughter is sometimes faked for various
reasons too especially at conventionally taboo/serious
things, maybe to make others think they are tough or
something.

Fags and lesbians straight to hell. But Pedophile priest may be forgiven

In short-"growing consensus, certainly among the faithful,
among the bishops, that it is too great a risk to reassign a
priest who has abused a child to another ministry." But he
left open the possibility that some priests who have faced
allegations in the distant past but have served without
further incident for many years would be allowed to remain
in the ministry"

Deadniabr- you are ignorant of all but the myth and dogma.

imo, human life is most important. everyone from the pope
to the starving folks in africa are equal. the pope is
about to die a relatively easy death. probably pass
in his sleep. he's not going to be crushed by debris in an
earthquake and bleed and suffocate, he's not going to starve
to death -- he's going to fall asleep secure in the belief
that in moments he will pass into heaven and live eternally
at peace. relatively nice way to die, if you ask me.

You're right. He said "its ok as long as you didn't like

And where did he say that? The only reference to the Pope
in that peice is saying that he referred to it as a 'crime'
and that it should be dealt with by civil authorities as
opposed to cardinal law, which I would have thought was the
most sensible response to give.

And please...don't try to fool yourself into the beleif you

By allowing the cardinals to review the cases and use thier
judgement on the matter he is abdicating the power of his
position and not perfoming his duty which would be to
protect the faithful from ass-fucking priests. Not issuing
a zero tolerance policy is a tacit acknowledgement that
cases could STILL be swept under the rug. In fact, if you
had any real knowledge on this subject rather than just an
opinion, you would realize that many personelle files of
priests in the US were sent to the Vatican for 'review' and
thus remain immune for subpeona by US courts.

-Still patiently waiting for evidence of his great works...

Thank you earthleakage.

And now that I am quite done fucking off at work I will go
home and await the blossoming of this thread into a memorial
to all the fine deeds the pope did to better the world as
Deadniarb googles himself a clue.

Just for the record I do think that the Pope had a fine
heart and provided spiritual hope to millions of people, but
much like Jesus, his message is co-opted by the
machinations of the church.

As long as supernatural beliefs control the minds and
actions of the masses, men will continue to use those
beliefs and actions to advance their own vested interests
and power...regardless of the consequences of those beliefs
and actions on those who do not believe and act as they do.
Religious dogma is the single most divisive and destructive
creation from the mind of Man in the affairs of Humanity.

God rest his soul.

Well if you had bothered reading the post I made prior to
that one, or bothered to read the article yourself, you
would have seen that what the pope said was that it was a
crime and that it was a civil matter not a cardinal one,
which sort of relegated everything that tosser wrote in his
statement directly to the bin without me needing to
respond.

It also doesn't require a genius to see the wisdom in not
issueing a zero tollerence policy given the vulnerable
position priests are in leaving them open to the posibility
of false allegations. If the matter was proven through a
civil court beyond reasonable doubt that the priest was
guilty then he would be defrocked, simple as that.

yes, thats true, but its not what happens.

Like godatloss said, the opposite has happened. the priests
becomme immune for subpeona by US courts because they get
sent to the vatican.

Even here in the US on a local level, catholic priests just
get transferred instead of prosecuted. It happened at my
grandmas church in NY (which is catholic), every so often
they get a new priest when suspicions arise.

As you seem a little slow on the uptake as well as poorly
informed, let me spell it out for you.

There have been thousands of cases of catholic priests
ass-fucking little boys. Have there been numerous instances
of folks just now jumping on the "I got ass-fucked by a
priest" bandwagon?

I'm certain.

Have there also been thousands of cases not brought to
court?

Yep.

What the pope said, or more importantly didn't say, was

(attention all! fake quote alert! In an attempt to not
only illustrate my point, but try to do it in an interesting
way I'm going to switch to an ironical tone. The Pope did
not actually say this )

"I know you priest have been doing some ass-fucking. TONS
of ass fucking in fact. I've got your fucking files here
safely tucked under my robe. Unless you've done so much ass
fucking that even we can't save you, I will leave it up to

litigious enough to sue us. If they just grow up to be

Arguments over religion are what most of the problems in
this world are based over. I think that no matter what you
believe or not, you should respect the belief of the
individual. If Ecnadniarb feels this way, then those of you
whom I think have disrespected him, should back off and
accept what he says. Afterall each one of us is entitled to

not achieve anything whatsoever!

I'm actually one of the least religious people you are
likely to ever meet as it happens...please don't confuse my
willingness to counter argue an issue as me being an
indoctrinated moron.

As far as the cover up of peadophile activities amongst the
clergy, yes it is sick, yes there have been far too many
instances, but to accuse the Pope as being directly
responsible for this through the use of a witless diatribe
serves no purpose what so ever.

I can see why he would want an internal investigation into
the allegations, whether this is hampering federal
investigations or whatever I am unsure about due to relative
lack of information this side of the pond. But you, and
others here, are attempting to paint a picture of a man who
is a manifestation of evil which clearly isn't the case. He
is mortal and he will have made mistakes, however I have
seen nor read anything that would imply he has acted with
anything less than the best of intentions.
