hehe.

I'm from Bulgaria and I speak a bit of Dutch. As far as I
know, Flemish and Dutch differ in pronunciation and in some
expressions. Here in Bulgaria students are taught Standard
Dutch, but my teacher stresses the differences between Dutch
and Flemish.
This discussion reminds me a lot of the one about British
and American English. Both British and American
English-speaking people have their own typical features,
traditions and identity. I think that such a division tries
to emphasize the differences in culture and social tradition
rather than to produce two separate languages.

these definitions of dependants are very confusing. what was
straightforward was to have bought an suv and get full
deduction for business purposes. but my accountant told me
of one case where a dentist had bought a hummer but the
deduction was declined because some joker at irs felt that a
hummer for a dentist business has no
relevance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am sure a successful dentist can
haul all the teeth and the root canals he has been
digging!!!!!!!!!

i went and bought a lexus suv gx470 on dec 31st and claimed
full deduction. my lady drives this baby and needless to say
she has gotten a little spoilt driving this vehicle.

paul, just claim your step daughter as a dependant and you
will be fine. hey, check this out. i claim my parents living
in toronto, canada, as dependants and irs says you
can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think i am going to claim my future trip to the hills of
himalayas as a business expense- i am taking my team to
breathe fresh himalayan air, figure out the new coding
system to collect some more loot and have a recruiting
seminar in the hills!!!!!!!!!!!!! now how would irs deny
such deduction?

I'm hoping that someone here will have some ideas to help me
deal with my backyard bird problems. I live in an urban area
where houses are very close to one another and backyards are
practically nonexistent. My neighbors have had a bird feeder
in their backyard since we moved here over 3 years ago,
attracting what I believe are sparrows, which crap all over
our side of the fence. I haven't said anything because I
haven't minded them until now, and I appreciate the
cardinals that also come to the feeder. Last summer they cut
down the large tree under which their feeder used to stand.
Pigeons have found the feeder and have begun to hang out on
my roof and the power line that runs about a foot behind my
backyard. The noise when they fly up from the feeder and
land on my roof is unbelievable. Not only am I worried about
the things I've read that pigeons can ultimately do to your
roof, but I'm also concerned about my 2 year old daughter
coming into contact with their debris when we go outside of
our house. It is because of my daughter that I've become
less tolerant of the bird droppings on my fence and in my
flower border. I don't feel that I should have to keep her
out of the backyard just to make sure she doesn't come into
contact with any of this. So, without asking my neighbors to
get rid of their feeder entirely, is there anything I can
do? Do owls with bobbing heads or wings that move really
scare away pigeons? Would an owl scare away the sparrows and
cardinals as well? I don't really want to scare away the
small birds, just keep them off of the fence. Should I try
putting something like Tanglefoot Bird Repellent on the
fence to keep the sparrows off of it? I really want to
protect my daughter and my roof and remove the eyesore on my
fence without hurting wildlife or creating problems with my
neighbors. Thank you for whatever advice anyone can give!

well.. I feel it is important to say that I am not the first
one making these points (even though I have thought them up
on my own.. the thing is that I believe that every thought
that has been thought before me has affected me and that the
world wouldn't be the same without even the smallest of
thoughts from the past.. none of us would be as
"enlightened" as we see ourselves without the thoughts of
the past. Also, there are extremely few
original thoughts, there are just new ways of putting
the existing thoughts inot system (not excluding the
possibility of new thoughts appearing every once in a
while)), but I haven't really made any quotes or references
yet, have I?

Anyway, I'll make one now. Arthur O. Lovejoy first thought
up that stuff about few original thoughts (as far as
I am aware, at least), but I had thought of it myself before
I read about him.

so.. in a way, even though I thougt up these thoughts all by
myself, I can't really give myself credit for them. They
have been around me all through my childhood, and they have
influenced how I think.

and.. this also excludes the possibility of having to "fight
off" people stating that I'm not saying anything new, which
isn't really relevant, but I've had people holding up the
entire argument with stuff like that before.

yes, but that wasn't something saying that you were a
nihilst. it was an example to the same proof meaning two
things to two different people (to kind of back up my
earlier statement about the religious person and the
scientists having different beliefs about what is considered
"proof," and that there is enough proof that there exists a
god, it just isn't proof from the scientists point of
view).

anyway, you're probably right; let's end this discussion and
get back to the stuff that was being discussed before.
