i made these mp3s. i basically sampled a few seconds from
old autechre recordings, reworked and manipulated the
samples and then rearranged them, then added some software
synthesizers and beats. i wanted to see if the hiphop
attitude of creating new music by mixing old samples also
works in elektronika. there you go.

The thing that throws me off is that these tracks don't
"evolve" the same way normal autechre tracks do. Like in
pro radii, the part where it just breaks in with the
synchopated metallic clang on the left channel and a new
rhythm entirely.

AE normally follows standard dance music procedures of
building tracks up and taking them down, very horrizontal
composition, then they take the elements and deconstruct
them at some point (changing tempo, tonal qualities, etc)
and then build back up ontop of that. but some of these
tracks have very horizontal compositions with sudden bridges
or verses without repeating themes. its sort of a
departure, not entirely impossible or unwelcome, but
definately out of character.

BUT

it sounds very similar to their live show at points, which
given the description warp posted makes sense...

we'll know soon enough.

"The follow up to 2003's critically lauded Draft 7.3,
Autechre's eighth full album is a dense yet elegantly
expansive work that ripples with some of the duo's key
signatures: epileptic rhythmic counterpoints, complex,
spiralling melodic cells, immense tectonic shifts in the low
end, dagger sharp glacial crackles in the upper registers.
But it also hits straight between the eyes with a raw,
almost live-in-the-room immediacy. 'We're really cranked up
and in a totally different gear at the moment'. Sean Booth
discloses, in reference to the new album. 'It feels like
we're working in a quite radically different way now; not so
much in terms of the final output ¬I'll let others judge
that - but we're getting ideas down a lot quicker now,
trying to make the most of what time we've got'.

It's an urgency which manifests on the thudding LCC, or the
equally unyielding opening passages of Ipacial Section, a
strange bass end warmth cushioning what sounds like
dysfunctional kitchen utensils trying to disco dance. Pro
Radii, meanwhile, is the album's most thunderous piece
¬it's harsh reverberations might be something inspired by
(or even recorded in) the tumult of an Iraq war fire fight,
with blasts of percussive clamour and disturbing shards of
human noise spasmodically flashing into frame.

But there are less frenetic moments ¬both opening tracks
cede to more restful extended codas and even the squirming
time signature of Augmatic Disport eventually evolves into a
dreamily spacious dub pulse. Elsewhere, those electro
influences hove firmly into view on the almost jaunty
Fermium ('That_s just a shout-out, really, to people who
know. We can't get away from the fact that we're DJs,' Booth
confesses) and while Iera and The Trees forage madly but
meticulously on house and techno's furthest shores, Sublimit
is nothing short of clipped space funk."

posted on watmm on Feb 9, I don't know what the source is
though (maybe warp, but i didn't see it there)

guys i figured it out.

follow these steps carefully to find out why its fake:

1. first, find autechre - bine, and queue it in your mp3
player, then find autechre - fermium and queue it up after.
2. listen to the first 20 seconds of bine
3. listen to the first 20 seconds of fermium after this
4. rinse and repeat

I'm really sorry man/or gal, but I think you've sorta
nullified your opinion in this thread by performing a
complete 180 degree flip flop of your stance, and being so
positive about it both ways.

You can however join me on the sideline, as a concerned
bystander if you'd like.

Yeah, whoever posted these descriptions could have been
involved in the fakes, or maybe the faker just read the
descriptions and made the tracks to agree with them OR maybe
they aren't fakes and this is the real thing, who knows

It's interesting...

I'm at the point now where I would like to know if its a
fake, NOT because it would clarify this debate, but it would
provide an introduction to a (semi?)equally talented artist,
whom of which I would like to hear more music by. So could
someone please fess up?

Here's more:

-O5's point about Phobia's confirmation that the release is
sided pairs and the 2 shortest track lengths wouldn't be
paired, sold me on the economics of its validity.

-3Tronik COULD be capable of this.

-The samples used WERE used in a combination of other AE
releases

-Rob & Sean ARE definitely catching wind of all of this and
pissing themselves.

-And finally, Warp's removal of the album's description is
slightly suspicious. In it, they mentioned being into new
gear, and the process being more immediate, with an "in the
room" feel to it.

I will post it below.

/g

From the now removed Warp News in regards to the new album:

"The follow up to 2003?s Draft 7.30, Autechre's eighth

C1 iera
C2 fermium
D1 the trees
D2 sublimit

Heh, i hadn't read that extended version of the description
before. I haven't heard all the songs, but given how
accurate those descriptions fit what i have heard (assuming
that extended press release is legit), i am thinking this is
real.

i find it hard to believe that someone could make tracks of
this sophistication in less then a week and half. To do so
to specifically fit those descriptions... if they did then
color me impressed.

either way its a terrible quality rip.

i usually like Ae,but this album is quite silly!
the tracks sound very shallow and there is no complexity in
them...almost amateurish.

could be that they jumbled the scrapes they have in their
tracks folder from 5 yrs ago.

/me is dissapointed

Well, that description sort of fits all of Autechre's
releases for the past 5 years. So who ever did it, could
have been following this formula and just waited. Remember,
we don't have official track lengths yet. When we do, this
will be settled.

Why wouldn't the 2 short tracks be paired? It would make
more sense that putting a short track on one side and a long
one on the flip.

some guy on slsk said he's a reporter and that he can
confirm its real.
I called him out b/c he would be the first reporter to say
they have a copy. he said he got a cd-r and the album title
was different, so obviously he's full of crap, since they
did casettes last album. he also wouldnt confirm who he
worked for, but in any case, he said he was going to post a
FLAC of the album.
