It's not you is it? Boards of Canada have got away with
derivative things because of their honesty. Don't keep
looking back, it's sad.

what are you trying to say...that boc retired and we shouldt
expect from em to do another release?

even the track titles are rip offs.

personally, boards of canada has too unique of a sound to be
able to take too much influence from without sounding like a
rip off.

jesus christ these guys have an identity crisis.

in terms of production, yes, i agree, it's the "best
sounding" boc clone. the music has no depth or variation,
though.

and what the fuck is with the track titles; they're
virtually all the same. "sunrise projector", "pheonix
cylinder", "cloud generator", "sunrise calendar".

if this was an experiment to clone the feel of individual
boc songs, 10/10. as an independent artist it's really not
enjoyable, though.

maybe it's just the samples - anybody sharing this album on
slsk?

anyone?
02 Dragon Simply Speaking (4:20)
03 The Rivers Are Furious (3:29)

05 A Strange World For Milo And Tock (4:14)
06 Creature Called Fire (6:01)
07 One By Four By Nine (1:06) > pleeeeeeez
08 Growing Aqua (3:04)
09 Very Same Paradox (0:58) >ah, yes
10 Harold's Quiet Adventure (4:48)
11 Salem P. (2:02)
12 Spin Me Good Morning (4:06)
13 With Water From Hawaii (2:29)
14 Ten Minutes Of Shade (Ontayso Remix) (10:15)
Remix - Ontayso
15 Invisible Scales (Helios Remix) (5:35)
Remix - Helios
16 The Rivers Are Furious (Kettel Remix) (6:09)
Remix - Kettel

That made me ill, I was looking on the messageboard and
found this Q&A gem

"You are my new favourite artist. Your music is
one-of-a-kind, and i love it..... Where do you get your
inspiration from? (i know i know. standard. but still..
please?) "

Tycho: "...for inspiration, I suppose I am inspired most by
nature, I think music can help to evoke a feeling of
something much bigger than the immediate world around us.
"

Ovioulsy the board has a filter on the words Second-rate
Boards of Canada plagarist
.

He's not a member of BOC, he just does a very good
impression of them. I guess that's not, in itself evil, just
a bit, depressing.

offline hyakusen from 8=============> on 2004-11-28 04:42 [#01408479]

a, so its simple plagiarism ? well, to be honest i didnt
liked boc coz of their dirty sounds. old synths are ok, but
they are ok ahen they are a little dirty - when i listen to
boc i have a feeling that the tracks were damaged, like they
are old old tapes, but cheap tapes, like they havent put the
effort to buy a cd recorder. that was the things i didnt
liked in boc, besides, all the synths are the same.

the guy is very good imo, besides the titles , which i fuck,
coz they are less important thing on an album ( at least for
me ) - honestly, i like the music from the site more that
boc tracks.

and dont ask me why, its very personal, its just the way it
is.

Fuck, there's being inspired and then there's copying and
watering something down. BOC came to their music through
years of evolving, from guitar based tracks, bands, tape cut
ups, field recordings, all sorts, and it shows in their
unique sound, that obviously has its influences too but
moves on. That's why they're so influential. But just
picking up what they took years developing and then doing l
lifeless clone is depressing, for the listener and the
musician I imagine. It's not a matter of only autechre and
BOC doing original music, it's the fact that this is a
direct, shameless rip off, even down to the track titles,
that'll appeal to people that have never heard BOC, because
they won't know the level of fucking plagarism.

you are right, and not at the same time.

it is sad when you see ripped off titles, and , lets say,
the idea of tracks.

but

almost 90% of albums is a older or newer rip off of
something that was done before. fizzarum - autechre. philip
glass - steve reich. and so on and so on. therefore, its
normal that there are many ppl that create music which is
similar to music that already exist.

I agree, but this just hurts my ears because its not just
"inspired by" BOC, it owes its entire existance to them.
There was another track the other day on that Hippocamp
compilation, let me look - again the name and title, Rythms
of the seasons by Phasic (ahhh, Telephasic workshop?) -
there were some good tracks on it but then came this
"inspired by" BOC clone and I had to delete the whole
fucking thing because it's just too much.

Hansen then obtained a bootleg CD of a mysterious,
mathematics-obsessed Scottish duo called Boards of Canada.
“They’re trying to evoke the feeling of the
wilderness,” he marveled. “That’s what I’ve been
chasing ever since with my music.” Boards of Canada’s
childlike synth melodies and down-tempo beats all
enlightened the melancholic Tycho sound.

it is pretty mad.. i think stuff like this will force them
to release something really different, or perhaps just
finish the whole BoC project. at least no one can cop aphex
or vsnares to this extent.

the thing which stops it being just like BoC is that it
lacks that analogue sheen , no fuzz/crackling and the beats
are just a bit too weedy. using backwards voices just takes
the cake though... i hope hes taking the piss , if so he is
damn good at doing so.

would you go into this much effort including releasing your
own cd if you were taking the piss?

then again, some people base entire career's on it.
