ever hear this great band called 'boards of canada' ?
shiiit, you could've at least tried to put an original twist
to your website and the artwork. of course there's emulating
good sounds, but looking at your site made me cringe.
shameless ripoff.hah oh and the track names are just too
much

I have been listening to a lot of Jeff Buckley and Elliot
Smith lately.... But my favorite electronic stuff would
include Manitoba, Four Tet, Arovane, Brothomstates, BOC, ,
casino vs. japan, broker / dealer and some nautilus.
Yeah, LTJ is nice too, I used to really be into the logical
progression stuff. I outght to pull some of it out, been a
while since I listened.......

thanks. - scott

Evidently he knows of BOC (no shit you say). I mean,
respect to the guy for replicating BOC's sounds, but fuck
being such a ripoff and then acting like it's your original
music style. Damn.

I'm betting his next release is gonna be titled "music has
the right to Tycho"

shouldn't that be "Tycho has the right to music"?

Maybe its just me, but other than the artwork (and font), I
don't really think of BOC. This is a lot less... melancholy
and has a lot more traditional melodies. I'm positive its
influenced by BOC, but doesn't sound like the style is as
completely ripped as you say it is. I've only listened to a
few songs, though.

Musicians think they have to imitate their heroes to learn
their craft, but it's a lie. They become mere imitators 99%
of the time, unable to break free from the constraints that
guided their artistic evolution. Far better to be completely
untutored and reinvent the wheel as a triangle or a
sandwich.

this could simply mean that that 99% wouldn't be able to
come up with anything interesting anyway, whichever route
they took.

not everyone can be a great artist, after all.

Music has the right to homages. I have created
Boards of Chile, perhaps representatives of other nations
could do their own Boards of... and we could have an IDM
United Nations type BOCouncil.

the beats are trite
the melodies are practically the same on each track (higher
synth line with a simpler, lower synth line)
the songs all sound the same

this is pretty bad, tycho is not in reality, maybe thanks to

Listened to the album today; some of the songs aren't too
bad, but damn, it's more than BOC "influenced". The guy
owes his entire damn existence to BOC.

The music doesn't quite have the depth and awesome quality
that BOC has, though, although it sounds damn similar. That
said, as somebody else pointed out, it does have more of an
"upbeat" feel to it; this probably leads to the fact that I
can see this music getting a lot more "mainstream" (sic)
exposure.

I don't know what's worse; that the guy won't admit his
music style isn't unique but copies BOC, or the fact that
this guy, if he plays his cards right, might get quite well
known.

RE: more upbeat: Yes, the breaks are more mainstream too.

Not all the tracks sound like BoC clones in themselves, but
enough do that it's fairly blatant.
Some of the distorted "real instruments" make me think of
Four Tet too.

Odds on that at least one track off it will be on TV before
the end of next year?

odds are you're right. that said, it's not unusual to hear
boc, plaid or many other better known idm artists on tv;
typically backgrounds in arty farty home improvement shows
or something.
