yeah talk about a patronising hollow gesture, they are
getting the foot in the door before footage of them doing a
blackface in an old episode of law and order or something
leaks

it's beautiful how the nice rich liberals only know to
address systemic racism by public displays of abject white
guilt. insult to injury.

it reminds me of a management strategy I read about, when
things go off the rails you take leadership by saying "OK, I
take full responsibility, now let's move on" and it means
nothing, you certainly pay no penalty, in fact it's a power
move

Im glad im not hollywood famous, it sort of warps your sense
of self importance, thinking that they have within
themselves to absolve society of its sins, its really weird
and grotesque. Ultimately it just a pre-emptive move to
hedge off any threats to the careers im guessing

think of how awful the world was when it was one way tv and
radio and movies and we couldn't get on twitter and tell
celebrities that they have big butts and their butts stink
and they like to marry their own butts

I imagine its there PR agent or assistant, whoever manages
their account who usually gets the brunt of it.

I cant imagine Stanley Tucci stinking around to watch people
call him a baldly headed bastard!

there's something weird about twitter that draws a lot of
actual celebs into posting. glinner for example is 100% him,
no pr agent would post what he does, jk rowling, ice t, ice
cube, lots of them on there. reality stars too. trump? don't
ask

I sort of admire their persistence, it reminds me of cnut
trying to hold back the tide of current public opinion on
certain issues. Thinking of Graham Linehan and JK Rowling. I
dont think its worth the psychic toll it will take on them

i remember reading about glinner's friends and family being
quite worried about his twitter rage addiction.
reminded me of the stories of people whose relatives got
their brain eaten away by fox news leaving only bitterness
and gloom.

something about transgender issues with seemed to piss of a
large amount of people, im not sure if they were trying to

were talking purely about the biological aspect of it all,
it seemed a bit nebulous really.

I went on a harry potter forum out of curiosity after it
happened and they were all saying "oh I cant read any of the
books now, this as ruined it, blah blah". If I thought like
that they wouldn't be much media i could consume, Imagine
your enjoyment of listening to the fall was dependent on
Mark E Smith being a nice person.

i remember finding out recently that john kricfalusi --
creator of ren and stimpy -- got ensnared in meetoo, for
banging some 18yo's when he was 35. plus being manipulative
and controlling while it lasted. it rather upset me: i
remember when ren and stimpy first hit the air. it was so
vile and unlike anything nickelodeon had ever had the stones
to broadcast before, and i loved it immediately. i have lost
count of the number of spontaneous occurrences of the log
song; someone starts singing it and everyone joins in

so, like, i dunno, am i supposed to hate the guy now? not
like ren and stimpy?

i think it's reasonable to separate the artist from the art,
in this case. he did some creepy shit, and that is dad-grade
"very disappointing." but, when i'm watching ren and stimpy,
i am not really aware of any of that. i feel like it is
perfectly acceptable to enjoy that bubble. as long as your
enjoyment is not enabling more bad behavior, i don't think
it should carry any guilt

meanwhile -- harry potter books have always been kind of
disneyland, squeaky-clean nonsense. who else do you expect
to be behind the helm, but some white person with
conservative views? yet, again, the books can be a bubble
you can enjoy without getting into all the ugly wiring
behind the panels

Ren & Stimpy is great. Yeah some stuff really taints the art
like when you find out someone is a murdered or serial
nonce, but most of the problems are because people are
multifaceted and prone to change I guess.

Yeah thing with JK Rowling I think she would identify as
left of centre classically liberal, but things have
accelerated that quickly, she does indeed look a bit
conservative in her views now

it's difficult to even talk about without sounding like a
piece of shit. quite frankly, my initial reaction was, "try
finding someone who launched their own animation studio that
isn't a manipulative, controlling, bipolar bastard" but then
it sounds like i'm justifying his excesses

jesus man this is trash, get a grip
25% of those killed by the police are black
proportion of black people in US population: 13.5%

so, yes, his stats show that black people are being
disproportionately killed by police and that he is an
intellectually dishonest racist :)

i'm trying to respect your intelligence here okay

Seeing as you've asked so nicely for my opinion on the video
link I posted...

His data is based on crimes commited. Not on percentage of
population.

I don't understand this idea that crime should be equal to
proportion of population. If Blacks commited no crime it
wouldn't be racist for them to have no proportional
representation in jails?

Anyway, besides all this, I found the protester that shouted
there are 'no good cops' to be funny, as it ignores the 11%
of Black cops whose lives obviously don't matter to him and
the BLM campainers that want to defund the Police.

Ive just been arguing with some conservatives on twitter,
totally fruitless isnt it. The were saying stuff like prove
systemic racism exists in the police. You link them some
articles and a Harvard study with empirical evidence and
then they just resort to ad hominem attacks.

then you agree with his bullshit, at least some honesty
thank you
crime rate is entirely irrelevant.

anyway, let's look at the fucking paper
https://www.nber.org/papers/w22399.pdf
(the paper is from 2016. it's not "new".)

right there in the abstract: "On non-lethal uses of force,
blacks and Hispanics are more than fifty percent more likely
to experience some form of force in interactions with
police."
(weird that the guy in the video doesn't mention that.)

followed by: "On the most extreme use of
force–officer-involved shootings–we find no racial
differences in either the raw data or when contextual
factors are taken into account."

i don't even have to get into his methodology: this isn't
saying anything about who is getting killed. this is about
who is getting shot. george floyd wasn't shot. eric
garner wasn't shot.
also "no racial differences" doesn't mean "more whites are
getting shot".

...

"no good cops" is a systemic notion, not a value judgement
aimed at any particular individual, which i understand must
be hard for you to process.

As I said, I don't believe in proportionate representation.
Why would there be an equal share of crime by race with
equal Policing of it?

Atalanta's police chief steps down after the death of a DUI
suspect, that allegedly resisted arrest after failing a
breathalyser, killed by a police officer for allegedly
stealing a police taser and running away.

This would never have happened under Socialism.

offline Tony Danza from Sesame Street on 2020-06-14 04:11 [#02603392]
Points: 3455 Status: Regular

Under socialism the police murder victim wouldn't have been
able to afford alcohol or a car, and would have starved to
death instead of stealing a taser. That's bad!
