in another instance of the problem attempting to escape
itself by migrating deeper up its own fundament... out of
all the brutal clips posted in this thread, the one that
makes it to the top of google news is an old white man
getting cracked by the cops

or, on the respectably cynical side, it was simply much
better video quality than most... shocking, but not too gory
for the evening news. i wonder if they have policies
relating to "how much blood is too much blood for the
evening news?"

What, then, constitutes the alienation of labor?

First, the fact that labor is external to the worker, i.e.,
it does not belong to his intrinsic nature; that in his
work, therefore, he does not affirm himself but denies
himself, does not feel content but unhappy, does not develop
freely his physical and mental energy but mortifies his body
and ruins his mind. The worker therefore only feels himself
outside his work, and in his work feels outside himself. He
feels at home when he is not working, and when he is working
he does not feel at home. His labor is therefore not
voluntary, but coerced; it is forced labor. It is therefore
not the satisfaction of a need; it is merely a means to
satisfy needs external to it. Its alien character emerges
clearly in the fact that as soon as no physical or other
compulsion exists, labor is shunned like the plague.
External labor, labor in which man alienates himself, is a
labor of self-sacrifice, of mortification. Lastly, the
external character of labor for the worker appears in the
fact that it is not his own, but someone else’s, that it
does not belong to him, that in it he belongs, not to
himself, but to another. Just as in religion the spontaneous
activity of the human imagination, of the human brain and
the human heart, operates on the individual independently of
him – that is, operates as an alien, divine or diabolical
activity – so is the worker’s activity not his
spontaneous activity. It belongs to another; it is the loss
of his self.

As a result, therefore, man (the worker) only feels himself
freely active in his animal functions – eating, drinking,
procreating, or at most in his dwelling and in dressing-up,
etc.; and in his human functions he no longer feels himself
to be anything but an animal. What is animal becomes human
and what is human becomes animal.

I think the UK will be especially in trouble if things
accelerate, 95% of our stuff is pilfered and built on the
back of imperialism. I don't know if we are more evil than
other countries or if we achieved the industrial revolution
first

yeah i mean to be perfectly honest im not that bothered
about the statues myself personally, I just find it hard to
say where we draw the line on some matters, history is
replete with nastiness. I guess that doesn't mean we should
remedy the really egregious stuff like the slave traders, I
have absolutely no idea whey those statues were still
around.

everyone who sees liberalism as intolerable either wishes to
go forwards into some kind of socialism, or backwards into
feudalism. however none of the guys endorsing feudalism
think they will be serfs, it's like the people who think
they're reincarnated egyptians all imagine themselves as
kings and queens, never slaves

I know the sorts of people you mean, they live vicariously
through the achievements of other people. They all would
have been sent over the top by field marshal Haig during the
first world war and been machine gunned to death, that's the
reality of the situation but they all imagine themselves as
the last bastion of western civilization. They have been
conditioned by decades of jingoism to have sadomasochistic
love for the type of people who exploit them.
