he had this sort of don rickles thing going on as jivver, but there was always a good-natured gentleness to it. i really found it quite impressive, as it's easy to get carried away with the trolling some days.... and he was always funny as hell. when he first copped to being Mark Bell / LFO, however, my reaction was: "...who?". i'd never heard of him! so i went to wikipedia, and... homogenic. love that album. put the LFO stuff on my to-listen list. still hadn't gotten to it.... so, funny as this sounds, i honestly feel like i knew him more as a person than a musician or as a guy on warp or anything like that. i will miss him. |

Deeply saddened to hear it. :( Some of my happiest memories were reading Animal Man listening to your first album on 12" in my brother's room in the early 90s and you were a big part of what got me into the whole IDM scene. You were a gifted producer and a thoroughly nice bloke. Your very kind gift of your old drum machine (and refusal to let me send it back) was touching. RIP, Sir you were one of the good guys. PS; I hope they let you violate a speak and spell up there in the afterlife. ;) |
